I noticed you visited my local Ducati dealer in this video :) Thanks for a very informative video, I am looking to get a new bike soon and SuperSport is at the moment on top of my list...
They're a really good dealer and 'John' on the service dept. really knows his stuff. The new Supersport 950 didn't feel as comfortable to sit on as my 935 model though. Thanks for watching.
So that is almost 350€ for the absolute cheapest service that Ducati has that is the same their yearly or their 9000 miles service (whichever comes first) The more expensive service also called the "Desmo Service" when they check the valves among other things is at 18 000 miles, many people do this service after 2 years of riding, now that service is the expensive one I have heard anywhere from 1000€ to 1500€ (881£ to 1322£). That is about double the cost of a comparable japanese bike. That combined with Ducati being less reliable than for example japanese bikes are the reason I have avoided them so far even though I like how they ride and look. I could never take a new or used Ducati for a long trip around Europe without worrying and since I can only own one bike at a time, I stay away from them. I think to own a bike like this and just smile while taking it to service several times in a short period is not very common :D
Sprockets... wear sneaks up on most. Best to take measurements when new. As the seat area wears towards the middle. it changes tooth spacing effectively -something the teeth tips don't reveal. So not all rollers stay seated during rotation - a portion will ride high, which stretches chain even worse.
I love the looks of certain Ducati's and am sometimes tempted to buy one, but I feel that Ducati has a lot of unnecessary problems that other bikes do not. I have a street triple R and have never replaced the chain and I've done 12k miles. Maybe Ducati use inferior parts that purposefully break down? I own an E46 M3 and I realize that maintenance costs will be higher for a 'premium' brand. But I will say, it's all worth it because of the smile it puts on my face when I drive it. Same can be said about Ducati owners. Enjoying life and being happy is what counts, despite the costs.
I bought a brand new Ducati Diavel a few years ago. Owned it for only one year because it seemed to enjoy being at the dealership getting worked on rather than being on the road and in my garage. Decided I would NEVER buy a European motorcycle ever again. Stuck with Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki after and haven’t had a problem since then. Thousands of worry free miles. Those Italians sure do love to build beautiful, yet crappy bikes!
Ducatis are reliable now days unlike a decade ago. The engine in this bike goes in multiple models (multistrada 950, monster 950, hypermotard 950, desert x) as it is their most reliable engine along with the v4 granturismo engine. Oil change on this bike is 9k bikes and Desmo interval is 18k now. That said, I upgraded from a 2021 Street Triple R and it feels like an upgrade and more premium in every way except it's much less fun to ride. It feels super sluggish compared to the Street Triple R.
I'm riding a BMW r1200r which is basically a GS with no off-road ability. I'm tempted to trade it in for a Ducati Supersport S. What's it like for distance compared to the GS. Is it still comfortable?
Great video, thanks. I am in the process of buying one (for exaxtly the reason you mentioned it felt so much fun when I test rode it). A dealer I spoke to did say that the silk finish of the white paint work is difficult to clean. Yours after being ridden through the winter looks great. Do you have any tips? Thanks
Hi there :) great video, I have one question, do you have the heat problems? heat coming from cylinder/engine to your seat/thighs?? some users say during summer its realy horrible...is it true? thank you
It is. At least in my unit in summer heat on city is terrible. Only in summer and hot days but it is. The 2 problems I found in this bike was that one of the heat and second one vision in the mirrors is very bad because of vibration difficult to see something over 100km/h.
Thats a good point - I'll make a short video in due course on how I clean my bikes, as I had to change the products I use from those I use for clening my car - as bikes are easy to damage if washing them too harshly. Thanks for watching.
Lucky you guys if you buy a white Ducati Supersport as it's matte paint and you'll need special wash and protection cleaners unless you don't care about 'shining' the paint surface.
OMG! I will never accept such a ripoff! Oil change and chain adjustment - If you ride a motorcycle you should do that yourself. It is part of enjoying your machine! Firmware updates?! What is it?! A phone?! Simply not for me!
Significant firmware upgrades? Lol. If they were significant, a recall would be issued or your bike would have problems. You are Ducati’s favorite demographic - willing to spend money for little in return.
i see too many people complain about the mirrors having too much vibration at speed. However yours look fine even. Did you have to tighten them yourself?
Hi Short Rides, Please could you explain the issue you experienced with the quick shifter? Did the dealer correct it? I find I get a lot of false neutrals, especially on the down shift. The auto blipper is terrible too. I can blip much better manually, which is crazy considering the age of the technology. I feel the factory add these things as cheap gimmicks to entice sales, but they don't put in the effort to tune them. What are your thoughts? Perhaps you could do a video on the shifter. Regards, Rab
Hi, I actaully had to take mine in for a warranty repair within the first 3 months becuase the Q-Shifter mode stopped working! Since they fixed it it does seem to have reduced the number of false neutrals, but I still get them. My friend Allan has a Ducati Diavel and also has issues with gear changes sometimes. I think its a Ducati thing. Thanks for watching.
I had the same issue, move the gear selector up and down by hand and you’ll see the metal rod moving in and out of the housing, give it a clean and a squirt of WD40 and that may solve the issue, it did for me
Charging you for 'oil disposal' is disgraceful: the dealer should absorb that as part of his business. As for £50 for oil, again that is simply absurd. You're being robbed blind.
I was charged for oil diposal by the BMW dealer too - seems to be a general thing now. Agreed the oil was very expensive, but then I feel I prefer to still use a main dealer for the reasons. Explained in the video. Thanks for watching.

Totally agree

That cost is not too much more than the service cost of my BMW 310R and you check list appears more comprehensive.

Hey Short Rides great bike but how do you keep it white especially during winter ?

Looking forward to buy SSS. Thanks a lot for making this video. How much does a desmo service cost if you have done one?
The only Ducati service I've had so far is this one, so I don't have any other info I can tell you I'm afraid. Thanks for watching.
i see too many people complain about the mirrors having too much vibration at speed. However yours look fine even. Did you have to tighten them yourself?
I haven't had to tighten the mirrors, but I must admit they're not great for visibility! Thanks for watching.
The mirrors on this model vibrate to the point of being unusable.
@@f109ged Do what i did to reduce vibration. Spray foam behind the mirrors.
@@sabredogoneHi. Do you mean behind the mirror glass? Please clarify. Thanks.
Do you keep the bike in a garage ?
Yes I do, bikes like that don't do well when kept outside - even under a weather sheet. Thanks for watching.
Just had a service and belts replaced and a new rear tyre £900 😢
The only way a dealer makes his money is from the services
