Great save -💪 pilot performance. Love this bird too has great visibility, lots of grunt and such a good sound. My hobbywing ESCs have never shutdown on me. Unluckily did not use it for 3 years 😢. But will reactivate it this season. Thanks for the lovely content
Thank you! It’s a beautiful Heli, best looking goblin other than the Comet. There is no issue with this ESC. But as you know on the 130 with the detachable leads, you must make sure they are secured.
Amazing making that split second landing. If it’s possible I need to set my sim up for random failures and practice. The Raw 580 your vid’s helped me build had a mini cyclic servo fail and completely bind up leaving me at a bit of negative pitch on one side of the disc. If I was as ready as you are I’m sure the damage would have been minimal. Funny I can fly 3d well but I’m clueless on how to handle those situations. Awesome looking heli btw.
Thank you! I tried to fly, thinking a failure can happen at any time, and with so many years of experience flying so many different things I’m used to saving them the best that I can. What’s crazy is years ago I had a elevator Servo quit with a little bit of back in it, and a helicopter would try to flip, so I kept using rudder to kick it around and bring it all the way back to me and landed it like an airplane.
That $35 Backup pack just saved you a couple 100 worth of parts. I will get one when i get a bigger helicopter too. People swear by them. I see why now! Nice flight with the OG, Jeff!
So I actually don’t have a back up on this machine I don’t want them on any machine actually. I might start but the back up is the secondary BEC line coming from the hobbywing. They have a throttle with power and a separate power. So two ports.
A back up is either a capacitors, or a little Lipo battery that in the event of a power failure like you unplugged your main lead, you would still have servo power to safely land the helicopter
ESC shut down, no power. Having a Bec is a separate battery that supplies the Rx unit and servos so you still have flight control just no motor power. Some people use the ESC inbuilt Bec power to run that, in this case if he was, the model would have crashed with no control at all.
Your BEC is built into the ESC. With Hobbywing there is two leads. Throttle and BEC backup lead. Since throttle came unplugged the BEC backup lead was still plugged in and cut motor but still had RX power.
Queston, I purchased a goblin 500 heli, on ebay and from what I can tell it has a canomod canopy, by the pictures that look like it had a blade strike at one time. My question is can I use a newer Goblin canopy for this heli, such as the raw.
Yes, the older canopies were made by canomod. Unfortunately, the big goblin 500 is one of the hardest goblin helicopters to find any parts for especially the canopy. Technically speaking, you can make anything fit in work. It will not be a direct easy swap, but I’m sure there’s a way to make it fit.
I had the same thing happen to me with my Raw 700 and a HW 130 HV. I sent it back to HW for an RMA. They replaced it but didn't say why the ESC shut down or the cause other than saying I may have used the wrong voltage or unplugged it incorrectly.
Wow! That’s not good but I’m glad they fixed it. So this one the throttle lead from the ESC came slightly unplugged which lost throttle. But the BEC back up lead was still connected. Thankfully!
hey man. awesome flight and really cool helicopter. love it- can i ask you what you think of a raw 580 as my first bigger helicopter after a omp m2? thanks learned much from you🙏
Wow only your pilot skills saved that. Now that you have a Goblin 700 OG it would be awesome to see an Flight comparison - Performance comparison between it and the Kraken 700. Dont know if you have one or could borrow one for the test. Also do you know if you Goblin has the HPS Head? The OG stock head was chopping booms so they came out this High Precision Head "HPS" which is a little taller. Chris
Thank you I don’t try but they happen! Lol so the 130HV has detachable weeds from the ESC. So after I watered, the helicopter are used fabric paint on the FBL connectors, but forgot and never on the Esc side. So the throttle lead just came out slight making bad contact.
So the Hobbywing 130HV has detachable ESC leads. When I wired the helicopter, I completely forgot to secure the leads to the ESC like I normally do. So as it was flying with vibrations and forces, the throttle lead just backed out enough to lose contact.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 looking forward to more videos. I wasn't so fortunate on my Trex 450 or raptor 30 the other day. Both tails failed, the raptor was the servo and the Trex was the esc. Both are down for a while

I bought 4 kits as spare parts, i love this version so much
It sound and flies real nice! Good thing the back up didn’t disconnect.
Yes it does! This thing just looks and flys beautifully! Super happy with it. It is a good thing! All fixed now and flying great!

Fabulous build and Fabulous Flight, Jeff!!! Flies much better at the end that when you 1st got it in the Air!!!
Thank you Larry. Yes it was! I was tuning as I was flying. got a few more flights on it since this flight and it is flying really good!
Holly cow. This is the first time I’ve seen proof positive on gluing the servo wires in.

You have always told me to fabric paint the servo plugs. lol nice save
It’s a must! I did it on the FBL side but I did not do it on the ESC side.
Such an awesome heli. Great flying.
If you would, explain what the BEC is and how it saved you. I have a blade 360, sounds like something that would be wise to put in

Helluva save, brother! Beautiful bird!!
Thank you! I appreciate that, definitely a quick thinking save!
A former co-worker of mine has one of these, with the first version V-bar. I believe he has a Scorpion motor for 12s
Oh wow! That’s awesome! Such a great looking Heli!
I had a 700 comp loaded with kontronik esc and 800 comp motor. Great heli. Best flying goblin until they released the raw.
That sounds like an awesome set up! I still think this is one of the best flying helicopters to date besides the raw series
Great helicopter, I skipped past that comment and asked mine. I hope to be able to fly as good as you one day.
Thank you! I appreciate that, you will be just as good or better with some time and practice!
You pulled too much current through the esc, causing a voltage spike? That’s why it shut down
No, amps were only 140. The throttle lead came slightly unplugged from the ESC.

master of saves!
But what was the problem? In the build video you mentioned that you used fabric glue on the connectors.

luckily the controls still worked ❗️🚁 Beast of a helicopter 🚁 & good pilot ✅ shapo
With Hobbywing you have two lines, one throttle and one BEC backup with RPM. Luckily, the BEC back up power lead stayed connected.
Did you hit rescue or did you autorotate to safety?
No, I do not have rescue setup nor would it help in that situation. I just Autoed it.
Nice save then!
I imagine rescue might help because it levels the heli Even if it can't spool the motor up to give you altitude.
