Thank goodness that "Smile" FINALLY saw the light of day last year! I know that Brian Wilson and his band re-made it in 2004, but nothing will ever beat the original.
I think he created that lie so people would stop giving him flack about it, or where the tapes were. Such a detrimental time to him, I can’t blame him.
Thanks TellYerMa! Awesome info! It sounds like Brian to me too, and I know he did about a million home recordings, not Al. Al did a nice job at sounding like Brian in the 70's though.
Someone earlier said this about it... "It's a song called "Little Child (Daddy Dear)" aka "Mon Enfant," supposedly a home recording of Brian in Holland around '72. He didn't write it. It's an old one, recorded by Wes Montgomery and supposedly Spike Jones. Brian also goes into "Susie Cincinnati" on the same recording. Some say it's Al. I don't think so." -TellYerMa
as of 4/9/12, this vid does not appear to have any audio track.... anyone else experiencing this ?? I have not had any problem w/ any other parts..so I have to assume it's part 6 only that is having problems. Too bad.. I really like this doc!
I disagree with what Marilyn told her daughters about their father being different than other dads and having a drug problem but he's a musical genius. To me that's not okay. Growing up I always heard that my dad worked really long hours because he was a great provider for us but he was never there at times when I wanted him to be like sporting events or things that a parent should be at. To me that's just a crappy excuse .
I think you misinterpreted it a bit. The musical genius bit was just something they can cling to a bit to be proud of their father. I don’t think it was meant as an excuse to his transgressions.
Great bio and great story. However Wilson was not a genius but just another songwriter with a few hit songs based on a idea and probably not two. Petsounds was terrible. only the fun rock songs were any good. The beachboys were one of the best rock groups ever based on hits and the image of fun teenage America.
To be the best at something that millions of others are trying hard to do i always thought that would be a pretty special achievement but then i read this comment and everything changed. The great Mr R Byers who changed the world and spelled out that it was the general vibe of the early 60s that fed the beachboys' music, not vice versa... so the vibe just came from nowhere and fed this vacuous talentless band.
@@wailer27That R Byer's isn't just any geek off the street, or haven't you figured that out. His contribution's are legend, if only in his imagination, but that's one hell of an imagination guy.
5:27 made me 😆
David seems like a good friend to Brian
Thank you for uploading this documentary.

Ahem "sessions". Smile will never come out because it wasn't done.
It did come out. Never say Never!
Dian Rovell was not a "Family Friend".
She is Marilyn's sister, Brian's Sister-In-Law,
and Carnie and Wendy's aunt.
Who researched this thing?
Its crazy how long Brian kept up that lie of the Smile tapes being burned, he said it in the mid-70's and is still saying it here in 1999.
I think he created that lie so people would stop giving him flack about it, or where the tapes were. Such a detrimental time to him, I can’t blame him.
Brian: "It'll never come out."
Can I quote James Bond and say "Never Say Never"?
it will never come out... well look where we are now
It never will because it was never finished! Nice to have the sessions officially, though!

Well obviously the tapes weren't destroyed. Cause I just got it. (Smile)
Damn you MURRAY!!!!!!!

The first beard was from about May to July 1967
Jan 19, 2013 audio for this clip works - in stereo. But part 5 was in mono.
yeah the voice is undoubtedly brian's
I would never call the guy from Smashing Pumpkins the arbiter of good music, lol
Does anyone else see the irony of Brian selling health food items--at the same time he himself was starting grow increasingly un-healthy?
i feel like im brian wilson with this audio only coming out of one channel - wtf!
Dude im crying haha
Daryl Dragon said something i think is pertinent @ 6:12
Rest in peace, Daryl.

Rebecca Marie : She knew Brian, you didn’t. She was honest wasn’t she?

I don't know why, but I just can't stand Billy Corgan's voice.

Interesting..sounds like a blind man telling us about the importance of colors in the world
Sure. Next ten yo-yo
Brian is a musical genuis. Pet sounds is a master piece to the point McCartney was blown out and inspired to write Sgt peppers.
