My thoughts exactly! So many artists spin out die or become broken people. Weird, I don't know him, but every time I see I feel a sense of pride for him making it through his personal nightmare.
My personal favorites : " Whatever Happened " ------" Tell Me Why"-------and " The Last Song" . By the time it's over, I am in tears. What a gorgeous farewell. ------MJL, 77 y/o Now.
This album proves once again that Brian Wilson is without a doubt the greatest American songwriter of all time. He not only connects with highly advanced musicians his own age who have been doing it for 40, 50+ years, but he can connect with the younger talent and tap into what they think and feel, proving that it doesn't matter how old you are or what style of music you play, when you are great, you can work with anybody in the music business. From top to bottom, THIS is the best music I've heard out of Brian since the early 70's in my opinion. The hooks, the melodies, the arrangements, you just don't hear that in today's music, and unfortunately you never will again. Thank god Brian is such a musical genius that he has given us this wonderful work of art to appreciate and listen to for years to come. Brian, to me, is the epitome of never ending youth. You can hear it in his voice, you can sense it in his music, and you can tell that even though he is older than he was when he was king of pop music, he still carries that same sensation of youth in his heart. The true sign of a pop icon and a true musical genius.
It's amazing that Brian can want to and does make modern sounds STILL. It would be so easy to take the nostalgic route from 50 years ago. He still wants to be relevant at 73. Way cool.
I had the pleasure i'm seeing Brian Wilson and Al Jardine along with their band in concert in October 2015. To say they were amazing is an understatement! At the end of the show they went off stage and most people thought that was it and left but I waited around and they came back on and started singing Help Me Rhonda, and three other classics and I got to stand right in front of them at the stage! Al Jardine was 3 feet away and we were all singing help me Rhonda and he was looking at us and it was so incredible I will never forget it. Brian was at the piano singing away! All I can say is they put on a really good show!
annmarieknapp lol A couple of years after that I won a charity auction and got to sing Barbara Ann on stage with the Beach boys at the Wang center in Boston --wow that was such an amazing experience. I was with Mike Love and his band which included Bruce Johnson and on the drums was John Stamos LOL in the middle of the song he came down and started dancing with me on stage. I can't sing a note and I told Bruce Johnson that and he laughed and said don't worry I'll sing louder than you and I said you better or everybody's gonna walk out! It was fun
Such a beautiful man. One of God's really beautiful creations.Plus one of God's walking miracles that he is still with us, and still able to create wonderful music, despite all his challenges. So love that Al Jardine is still in there with him.
How blessed are we to experience Brian in our lifetime...live and in person....still giving us the gift of his beautiful pure spirit through his joyfull playful loving musical genius
I so want to hear Brian do an album with *his band*, all live, combining parts in the studio, similar to the way he made albums in the 60's. Send Joe Thomas packing, and let Darian Sahanaja co-produce. No Pier Pressure isn't bad, but I feel like some of his collaborators try to "dumb down" his compositions, arrangements, and production in a misguided attempt to appeal to contemporary audiences. Brian Wilson exists out of time, his music is an entity unto itself. Just my opinion...I still wish him love and every success with this album.
It's not as glaringly present as it was on Imagination, but the vocals and instrumentation still sound overly filtered, overly processed. I don't know why Joe Thomas feels a need to do this, but the result is kind of grating to my ears. Thankfully back on That Lucky Old Sun we got more of an organic sound, but this was due Scott Bennett's involvement over Joe Thomas's.
What a beautiful soul he is. I ❤️ Brian Wilson. I listen to Don't Worry Baby as much as he listened to Be My Baby just to hear his pristine falsetto. And every time I see him I Smile! ❤️❤️❤️
"No Pier Pressure" is a great album. I enjoy Brian's rendition of ' 'Somewhere Quiet', Zooey Deschanel's sultry lead vocal on 'On The Island', Brian's duet with Kacey Musgraves, and the instrumental with Mark Isham.
Musical genius - I really feel that the amazing music Brian puts out is only a tiny fraction of what he hears in his head...and Im grateful for what he has shared!
i wasnt prepared for how good this album is. i so loved Lucky Old Sun, and really thought it was his last good work. I should have known better from this 9 lived cat.
+drew harrington As soon as I heard Guess You Had to Be There, I had to play the track over and over again. It immediately became my favorite song on the CD.
Al's voice is just timeless. He sounds as good as he did on " Then I Kissed Her" ----It's just so great to see & hear them, together. --------------WolfSky9
I just listened to this album last night and I love it. Very soulful soothing album that I think I think is the right album to finish on. If he does put out a new album I’ll definitely listen to it, but this is stellar
Saw Brian and company live Saturday. It was a really good show and I treasure the experience. Blondie shredded up a few solos. Al was great. Drumming was on point. Don't go through this life without seeing Brian at least once.
Love the compositions and hearing Brian but wish they would release a "no-autotune" version. Who cares if he sounds "perfect", we want to hear him honestly!
Of all the artists that I could meet, he would be the most intimidating, the most difficult. What do you say? I love your work? You're a genius? He's heard all that. Because it's true. I wouldn't want to kiss his ass too much. I guess I'd settle for thank you, you've made me happy.
im Brazilian and i really love your sound...that yours 3 yer's bed...problably was very important for to calm your mind brian.....and now we have you !! im glad......please send a hug to Brazil....here we love u !!!! thankssss
Brian Wilson is so brilliantly minded that not even John Lennon, Paul McCartney & George Martin could not keep up or compete with him! Man is a GENIUS and a one of kind composer, writer , singer songwriter, Multiple Instrumentalist and visionary!
Lennon and Macca were every bit as musical in ability also they were every bit as prolific. The Beatles wrote songs that stagger me in melody, the unexpected chord changes also chords that should sound bad together but were tied together beautifully when you hear the melody above them. Look at the Intro to 'If I fell' its mindblowing then there's Penny Lane with 7 modulation or key changes but you don't even hear them because they are in there for a specific function. Usually you hear a modulation because they are notoriously hard to hide. You can study the Beatles for a lifetime and they are studied and taught in almost every music institution in the world because of their ingenuity and beauty. The BBs are the same in many regards. All I know is neither has been beaten to this day and they should of been if what they did wasn't so difficult to replicate but there you have it...The passed the test of time:)
I have been a huge fan of Brian and his brothers. The beach boys are in my blood. I lived in Santa Cruz most of my late tonnage and young adult life and now that I live pretty far from the ocean , all I have to do is put on one of there albums and I know everything is gonna be ok.✌
You have to love the fact that he's working with younger musicians and not having a generational bias that only veteran musicians are the only ones to employ
I bought the CD two days ago, and I think I'm in danger of wearing it out already. 'Easy listening' is not really my cup of tea (my nostalgia tends toward Stones and the Who), but the songs on No Pier Pressure are like stories of the mind. I let my imagination run free, and began to develop my own track list. Thank you, Brian, for letting me play DJ in my brain.
Lovely young woman she is! Nice to see the great kids he raised with Melinda! Daria seems so real and without big ego which is not an easy accomplishment when you grow up privileged and in Los Angeles. Lovely to see!
I'm a multi-instramentalist singer/songwriter that is an enormous Brian Wilson fan. And well I have to say because its a different time, most of these artists that sang with Brian on this album are nothing but one hit wonders that will not stand the test of time like Brian has. Nate from fun? I've never heard of people like Fun or K.C. Musgraves until this album; nor I doubt, I will hear from any of them after this album.
This guy reminds me of Zac Brown. Could you imagine a Brian Wilson - Zac Brown collab? Their two voices together, along with their harmonies would be magical.
Brian, es un genio, trabajador, sorprendente, me anima en momentos de bajón. Por favor continúe así, le admiro y respeto, agradecer a su esposa, su entrega y su apoyo para que usted continúe. Gracias por su música. Gracias
Hands-down, BW's finest musical effort since Pet Sounds. His voice is better than ever as is ageless Al Jardine. Brian's voice is smooth, emotive, & effortless. Well done, Brian--with old & new friends! Wolfsky9
Wolfsky9 I've heard others say this, & I so agree: it would have been the easier thing to do another BB's album, or some kind of " nostalgia trip", but Brian took a chance & a direction no one ever expected from him, & it is fantastic. How many artists at his age would have the artistic courage to do this with young, new artists & some well earned old friends ? This album is just THE best, ever. Thank-you Brian. Wolfsky9
Al Jardine's voice and Brian's hair are gifts from the Gods
YES!!!!!
It sure is.
I feel like Brian offered a little more, but you aren’t wrong
I think you mean Brian’s hair and voice lol
And brain, and spirit...
God love Al too, tho
For a guy now in his 80’s his hairline is almost as good as his sings😏
I've watched this about a dozen times now. And I'm not done! It's just SO great.
Brian Wilson is an example of never giving up. He did not only survive, but he thrived and he is a hero for that. God bless him
My thoughts exactly! So many artists spin out die or become broken people. Weird, I don't know him, but every time I see I feel a sense of pride for him making it through his personal nightmare.
Al Jardine loyal to Brian Wilson till the end 🙏
Yes, brother Aditya! That’s my takeaway as well. 🙏🏻

It doesn't end there he's writing another album called Sensitive Music For Sensitive People.
American?
@@jaggass couldnt agree more.
Wow! You took the words right out of my mouth! And yes, I too, think its truly a great album.
Yeah but. But then you put on smile and go, WTF.
- You're not even gonna listen to me sing it?
- I've been listening to you for 50 years.
LEGEND
Al's voice has barely changed.
Al still sounds like he’s still in the 60’s. His voice is still Gold after all those years. Same with Brian! Wow!
It's amazing that Brian can want to and does make modern sounds STILL. It would be so easy to take the nostalgic route from 50 years ago. He still wants to be relevant at 73. Way cool.
Naw, he's a nostalgia act now. No Pier Pressure songs haven't been in his setlists in 6 years. It's all 60s stuff now.

Was that the Easton Pa. show? I was there, good show.
Brian Wilson has been my idol since I was 14. I'm in my 60's now!
I totally get that! I'm in my 60s too but only discovered Brian Wilson in the last few years. Better late than never.
Such a beautiful man. One of God's really beautiful creations.Plus one of God's walking miracles that he is still with us, and still able to create wonderful music, despite all his challenges. So love that Al Jardine is still in there with him.
allymayful Beautifully put.
classic two greats Brian and Al
yes. Miss brothers Carl and Dennis. Great talents as well
How blessed are we to experience Brian in our lifetime...live and in person....still giving us the gift of his beautiful pure spirit through his joyfull playful loving musical genius
Please don't ever stop Brian. Stunning work.
Unbelievable vocals on this album. There are some incredible moments of listening pleasure

Yeah, Darien could bring out the wierd side of Brian. They could drop some acid and fall into a French horn!
What a beautiful soul he is. I ❤️ Brian Wilson. I listen to Don't Worry Baby as much as he listened to Be My Baby just to hear his pristine falsetto. And every time I see him I Smile! ❤️❤️❤️
Maybe the best music of his long career. I can definitely hear the freedom to create in this album...
"No Pier Pressure" is a great album. I enjoy Brian's rendition of ' 'Somewhere Quiet', Zooey Deschanel's sultry lead vocal on 'On The Island', Brian's duet with Kacey Musgraves, and the instrumental with Mark Isham.

I love Brian Wilsons music! Thank you Brian.
i wasnt prepared for how good this album is. i so loved Lucky Old Sun, and really thought it was his last good work. I should have known better from this 9 lived cat.
I'm not familiar with the new singers, now I am thanks to Brian Wilson. Love the music.
We must all cherish and love Brian...a total legend 💙
IT'S MORE THAN A PLEASURE FOR ME TO SEE BRIAN WORKING ON HIS NEW ALBUM "NO PIER PRESSURE!" 😁💖🎶
lay down candles on and play this amazing record. tears.
some real gems on this release! Especially love Saturday Night and Guess You Had to Be There

Those are my two favorites also. I love this album. I saw the guys play and met them right after this album came out.
Daria, so glad you are so close to your Dad! Artists, you're so lucky to work with Brian Wilson. I bought the CD when it first came out. Love it!
Its a lush sound, plush! Well done daddio, he seems so nice. I hope these young ones comeback for more

At the very beginning when his daughter said the very first picture she showed her dad and he said 'that's the cover!' is very touching.
So I'm a Teacher of the Deaf and I get those harmonies from the early years of the 1960's. I get harmony. Thank You.
Dean Jackson
Brian's great musical ideas never stop !!
It is so touching that Brian used his daughter's pictures as the album cover!
This video is so well-done and makes me love No Pier Pressure even more. Thanks.
TIMELESS...BRIAN STILL HAS THE SWEETEST SOUNDS !
Great Album. My favorite song is "Whatever Happened" . Must have played it 30 times today driving up from the city. Thanks Brian!!
The Right Time is my favourite one off No Pier Pressure.
Of all the artists that I could meet, he would be the most intimidating, the most difficult. What do you say? I love your work? You're a genius? He's heard all that. Because it's true. I wouldn't want to kiss his ass too much. I guess I'd settle for thank you, you've made me happy.
Good point...yeah, thank you would be a good thing to say
Samson Crosswood Nah, he's a really kind, nice man!!!
I know exactly what I'd say: will you write with me?

Al Jardine is an integral & unique 2 the BB’s sound. Just 2 of the original 5 BBs but THAT sound’s still there .. that feeling’s still there
Love Brian’s big greasy bag of 5 Guys fries on the mixing desk at 3:30.
There’s no grease on the bag though
