    I liked the amount of Easter eggs and native shout outs like how she whistled before the predator came in picture since most tribes believe that if you whistle at night bad entities will come. That one I for sure feel is from the bezerker clan since it had strength and speed but didn’t really think fully in his attacks while naru had a solid defense while studying it.

    • @whiteowl87
      @whiteowl87 Рік тому +20

      The whistle was a nice touch. I wanted to point out that not all natives had an astonished reaction to old world technology. Ishi, the last Yahi lived in California away from cities until 1911. He was brought out to the SF Bay Area and his anthropologist guide/'owner' said you must be pretty surprised by our technology as Ishi looked at the city and an airplane flew overhead. Ishi smiled and only commented on how many people there were. I guess what I mean is that there were ways to understand new things, like children's stories allowed Naru to comprehend alien tech as a sort of metaphysical being, but not one that she couldn't handle. The biggest difference is behavior as she couldn't understand why someone would kill a herd of bison until she met the French fur trappers. She understood the Predator for what he was fairly quickly as well.
      I cracked up at the New Girl joke. Glad you did this and hope you feel better.

    -According to the director, this a young and more inexperience Predator. Which after seeing the movie makes sense.
    -There's a dub version where all the dialogue speak by the comanche is their actual language instead of english.

      Yeah this predator is like the primitive versions of the higher ranks.. Or put it lightly, a LOWER ranked predator.. Much like the 1st land reptiles were the dinosaur's ancestors.. Hence why this movie setting was in 1719. Low evolved.. And with Low-Tech helmets with a wolf skull and shoots metal bolts instead of plasma laser.

      @Motivation_snack6668 Рік тому +2

      @@SaRENRampaiger Here's what i think about those things:
      1. the skull helmet might be the case of the predator being prideful, wearing the helmet of a creature he took down is a great accomplishment
      2. he didn't have any plasma canons because he was out on earth to prove himself to the elders, afterwards they gift him the plasma canon, that's how was done in avp movie and a glimpse in here aswell
      3. he's probably not wearing any armor because he enjoys the thrill of battle, and might even take damage on purpose to fully embrace the fight, hence why he has so many scars on his body

      The truth is this movie was true to the comics. This Predator is called a "Youngblood" meaning he's well trained (obviously) but very inexperienced. In Predator "tribes" you have to earn your weaponry. The more trophies you bring back the more you are rewarded. His low armor/weaponry is simply a result of his accomplishments. Clearly he wasn't "handicapping" himself as you mentioned. The whole point is the best of me vs the best of you. He used everything at his disposal.

    Another thing I liked is the way they portrayed the female character. She wasn’t the best at everything, not the strongest, not the fastest. But she was quick thinking, able to improvise, and use her perceived weaknesses to her advantage. All the men were better warriors, stronger, faster, more agile, but she was the better hunter because of her intelligence, cunning, and her ability to adapt. It was a good call back to the original with Dutch’s traps, while also avoiding potential criticism that she was a Mary sue who could do everything and was better at everything. I’ll say it again, I really love this movie, and I really LOVE Amber as an Actor, and give credit to the writers for writing such a well fleshed out character, who has many flaws and issues, but adapts and overcomes, instead of a straight Mary Sue plot armor person.

I also liked how the natives are never like "weird speaking savage people" (if that makes sense), they are humans like everyone else. I think it would have deserved a bit more budget and a cinematic release.
    I wasnt sure if the trappers were a bit comical, however, we see them through naru's eyes - and she sees them as these weird but also dangerous people. So it works I think.
    However, even though I liked how hard to kill this predator was, I wondered if it would have been taken down by a log like in the first movie. Maybe it was a bit too indestructible? But it works as a movie monster in a world without machine guns very well.

    Prey is genius because the Predator and Naru’s stories are parallel to each other. Both are trying to prove something, not just to themselves, but also to their respective tribes. For any of us that follow Predator Lore we know that they are accepted into what is equivalent to a tribe only if they hunt a worthy warrior. The bear fight shows how the Predator, even though he has strength and tech on his side, is out of his element. The bear actually overpowers the Predator and there is even a moment where the bear stands on top of the Predator with the green glowing blood running through its mouth. The only reason the Predator is able to kill the bear is because the bear turns its back and gets cocky. Naru exploits the Predator being out of its element by studying it. It learn it patterns, how it uses its weapon, and how to use her skills as a hunter and gatherer to outsmart the Predator. It’s actually not such a far fetched idea that Naru could kill the Predator this way because that’s how Dutch did it in the original movie. When the Predator takes off all his weapons and fights Dutch, Dutch gets brutalized by the Predator. Only by outsmarting it does the Dutch kill the Predator. Naru does the same thing, but in her own way. But the fact that they are both after same thing shows the theme of commonality even with rivals.

      Pedro, did you actually watch the movie?? Or you based your comment only on reviews you have read here and there?? Where exactly were brains involved in Naru defeating the Predator??? Maybe when she jumped on it and starting stabbing it with her axe? Maybe when she chopped his arm off?? Maybe when she pulled out it's tooth (!!!) with her bare hand(!!!) and then stabbed it in the eye with it??? Or maybe when she crawled between it's legs, tied her rope around it's neck and then dragged it into the mud lake, as if the Predator was light as a feather or as if she possessed the strength of Wonder Woman??? You compare this to the 1987 film final fight??? In which Dutch managed to deliver just one blow, which only tickled the Predator???? Dude, the film was woke from the beginning. But, for sure, it broke the wokeness world record in the final fight sequence : not only Naru had to outsmart the Predator (which to be honest is something that I could buy...I mean, there is always a chance that this is a stupid Predator , isn't it?), but she had to overpower it physically as well! And boy, she did that, didn't she?? She had to excel in every domain, both brains AND muscles. Wanna know why? Because, of course, "girl power"! Oh, and because of another reason: "VAGINA"!!! An absolute woke disaster for me, by far the worst movie of the franchise, AVP's included...Total score :0/10, for your "genius" of a film...! God bless you, boy, you made me laugh!

      @@demetriskatsianis2396 Yes because while you are right that anything taken can be taken into an extreme or illogical place, this is not what is happening with this film because the message is executed correctly without coming off entitled or just bitter and angry. Are there some extreme feminism films, which outright mocks all men as misogynists?Sure. But this isn’t one of them.
      This film didn't do that in many ways, one of which was the fact the tribe never had a law or rule preventing her from becoming a hunter. It was just women in general are not as physically strong as men and so the hard task of hunting were given to the men. Naru wanted to prove she can do it too. She never expressed any entitlement, demanding to be respected or demanding to be equal. The film was about her "proving" she can hunt and she did.
      The other point was her older brother Taabe, who was a very strong and able hunter, but also one that watched over her like a mentor and protector, in which she looks up to as a father figure (since her father died.) So this film absolutely did not "put down" or mock men. Taabe was also very encouraging of Naru to become a hunter.
      The feel of this film is very relatable if you are someone who had that one little sister that followed you around your whole childhood wanting to be like you. When you are with your friends, she wants to tag along, she wants to do the things you do like play basketball, skateboard, etc... Naru comes off not really as a feminist, but as a tomboy.
      This is why I find a lot of political criticism of this film really unwarranted. Funny enough, when you think about it, Some conservative value are represented here such as training their daughters to use guns, exercise their 2A rights, to not run from bad guys, but to fight back. So why would this film be considered "woke?"
      This film did not have a feel of victim playing, entitled equality, or anti-male feminism. It is about a young woman who wants to be more than what she is expected to be, who wants to break traditional expectations, and yes... it is specifically gender expectations. But as I stated earlier, any good thing can become bad if taken to an extreme. This film did not do that and it executed their point quite well.

      @demetriskatsianis2396 Рік тому

      @@pedroportillo1585 So, you did not get that through the entire film Naru is shown to be better in any way than almost every male of her tribe? I mean, she had to be better even in hand to hand combat against probably the strongest man of her tribe! The guy couldn't deliver not even a single blow!! The scene when she wakes up to do the housework? When she gets out of the tipi and sees the other women going to start their houseworks with their children in their backs? Do you remember the disgust on her face? Do you remember her throwing down her bag and picking up her bow instead? It was a scene that showed absolute disapproval for the way other women HAD CHOSEN to live, and also showed disrespect against the female instinct of motherhood. Do you imagine how insulting this scene could be against women who desire to have children but they cannot because of let's say medical issues?? That scene was crying out : "I am far better than this! I am far better than any of you!! I will show you all!!!". The ending scene, after she defeated the Predator : a big smile on her face! No tears, no sadness for her dead brother. Because him dying was not that important as her accomplishing her goal, to prove herself worthy of not doing the house work!! Her own brother...So much for looking up for him...! Also, little sisters when they play soccer with their big brothers do not disagree with him on how their team should attack...They do not feel sad when their brother scores the winning goal...Little sisters who look up to their brothers are happy when their brother excels...Most of the times...And this usually stops by the age of 12-13...Dude, that chick had "toxic feminism" written all over her face!! Anyways, dude, I do not really care about the feminism or the wokeness of the movie. I have watched excessively woke movies without a problem, given that they did not mess up the plot. My main issue of this film is that, in order for the main character to reach her final goal (proving herself worthy, that is...) they lowered the Predator creature in a humiliatingly low level. This movie could easily not have been a Predator movie. They could have used a bear or even a vicious French fur trapper as the ultimate Prey for Naru to prove herself better than any woman who wants to create life inside her body...

      common when its a masked man behind a bush. not when its a huge and loud space ship that rearranges the clouds in a world pre airplanes.

      If you noticed that, I believe you should have more than only this one, Like example how the dog got '' Tail'' caught in it. Trap set on pressure, yes. Speed of dog, okay. But still tail is high enough for the trap's'' teeth'' to catch it. No? And list could go on.

      And a snake which received a bladed weapon through the head and skinned alive from head to tail which was still alive. And if this was a "reflex", it must be noted that the snake was killed while it was still daylight but not found until after nightfall. Reflex action in this scenario seems implausible. Im sure the all seeing and all wise Matrim42 would vehemently argue this point.

    22:38 In the Alien vs Predator movie, it's shown that they have a net that tightens up and will cut through most anything it gets wrapped around. It was brought back for this movie and shown it working through in a very fast and devastating manner.

    I don’t think the predator necessarily respects or disrespects anything rather the reason and purpose for its existence on the planet is to encounter danger and overcome it. A good way to think about it is he’s like a dark souls player, he’s here to fight the biggest and baddest things he can find no matter what they could be. Likely for him this planet is completely uncharted a new and he was just thrown down here for a hunt.

    Its so surreal to see stuff playing in the US in the early 18th century and americans be like "omg its ancient" and meanwhile i visit my Gradfather to help him find the ground certificates from the late 17th century when his family built the second half of his house because he needs it to know if the well construction would be able to house a geotermic pump. 🤯

    i personally loved the movie. i wish it had been performed in spoken (not dubbed) comanche. the setting was unique and the use of a native cast was refreshing, esp a female lead outwitting a technologically and physically superior opponent.

    Get an alarm clock that wakes you up with a gradual light, that finishes with an alarm. Eventually you'll wake up to the light before the alarm, and that means no more alarms. It's so much better.

    21:40 The French took him there because they knew the ashes would stick to his body and prevent the predator from using his invisible camouflage. That is one of the big questions that the movie left, apparently the French knew what kind of creature the predator was and what was the purpose of his stay on earth
