This arrived today and I was very excited to open it up only to find out that my unit appears to be more wobbly than yours, I opened it up only to find pretty much every bolt and nut looee, I'll tighten them up in hopes that it will feel a little stiffer afterwards
Got one with these internals for less than 30 bucks sale on Ali about a month or two ago. Last night I'm raking gears in a BMW M3 at Laguna and all the sudden can't hit my shifts. Pause sim and a tiny screw is sitting on my mouse pad under the shifter. I knocked one of the damn bearings clean off! Hopefully it just wasn't screwed on tight enough and is an easy fix. Thinking bolt it back up and add a little grease. Otherwise back to the modded TH8A that I know I can beat the snot out of. I was digging it before that happened. I'm sure I can probably fix it, but not confident I'd wanna trust it in a multiplayer lobby. 😬
Sorry to hear that...unfortunately issues will always present themselves when simracing. It's just like real racing in that regard. Hardware failures are inevitable. Ask me how many pieces of gear I have had issues with over the years. Lol

For all its' shortcomings (like the little wire for sequential mode that I've had to resoldier and eventually replace...) the old thrustmaster is hall sensor and built like a tank. 😁 **Update: Easy to repair, tightened everything up and used some lithium grease, and we'll see how it endures now. Today is 4/25/24, if I there hasn't been an additional update/edit, the shifter is still in service.**
I see you shift like a proper eglishman!😁👌 I have no issues shifting with my left, but I find it weird to shift from left to right on the left, as I do on my right, so I mirror my right hand shifing starting from right to left when using the shifter on my left..😅
@@DouglasThompson Yeah that is the only way I've seen them. Make most sense do to that we count and read from left to right. Just find it weird shifting like that with the left for some reason.. Probably just me being weird..😂
I thought you had 3 H pattern shifters coming? This seems like a lower quality version of the one that sim racing corner had on his channel, but at that price point I'm not sure it could be beat.
I had 3 handbrakes and 2 shifters. I couldn't find more than 2 shifters under 100 dollars so I separated them into 2 videos since you can't really compare an H-pattern to a sequential fairly. Lol
i just got mine yeah smaller then i thought even after watching this and i'm looking in there and i see more switches i'm guessing the internals are the exact same for all of them and only the plate on top changes i'm wondering how much of a pain it would be to mod it in some way

Not sure you can return it if there is nothing wrong with it. Fanatec most likely will not work with you on this, you best bet is to sell it on eBay. If you kept the box and everything, make sure and advertise that.
I have the same shifter but i have a problem that every fifteen minutes it just shuts off. So i can play for 15 minutes exactly untill the gears stop working, the blue light on the platine is still on tho. And when i plug it out and in again it works fine for 15 minutes. Any solutions
@@DouglasThompson i think it has a software problem, spotted a warning in windows: "The device settings were not migrated from the previous operating system installation due to a partial or ambiguous device match." Maybe it is something with the drivers. Are you using windows 11 with this shifter?
There is something off putting to me about that shifter lol. I'd have to be real broke to nab that thing. I slam gears not granny shift haha. Just waiting for mine to brake and it's a beef cake. Fresh excuse to call on England and the fine blokes over there.

Lol this one looks kinda whack compared to mine. Mine seems to have a stronger shifting force, which makes it feel balanced with the lateral spring strength. It's also a 6+R, so you can drive way more cars with it
I chose 5+R because it's what I most favor. ;) As for the shifting force, how much stronger would you say yours Is? Mine feels like it almost goes into gear by itself. Lol
@@DouglasThompson Mine definitely requires quite a bit more force to put it into gear. It takes more force to go to neutral than into gear, which took a bit of time to get used to, but it certainly doesn't just go into gear by itself. I think it takes about 1.5kg to get it into gear, and about 2kg to get it out of gear.
I think if you look at the mechanism you will find in the neutral position the ball bearings are not fully closed. When you are in gear the bearings can touch which means you would need to apply a bit of extra force since the "jaws" are more closed. :)
@@DouglasThompson On mine they are properly closed in neutral, but they're just angled to where they require less force to open from the outside from inside. It would be such an easy fix and would make it feel much, much better, but I didn't pay much for it so I can't really complain :D

I’ve had this for like 2 months now and I wouldn’t recommend this. Everything feels weaker and not much force needed to switch gears anymore. I’m switching to Fanatec this weekend because this shifter is dogs***
Hmm are you thinking the springs have worn out? Is there a lot of wear visible on the unit? I do keep in mind this is for the budget minded/entry level type of sim racer but I'm sad to hear it didn't last as long as you would have liked. The real question is, did you have at least 50 dollars worth of fun while using it?
@@DouglasThompson I used it for about 1.5 hours. Left it aside since I ordered new fanatec gear, and a new aluminum cockpit. When i mounted it back on, it didnt feel good anymore. But overall, its better than the Logitech. Damn, anything is better than Logitech. Might've been just mine. And there are multiple different sellers too, so maybe they vary in quality. All I know is it looks just like that one.
I use one with a very similar design except the mechanism is in the center of the top plate,yours seems left oriented. But it looks like the internals are the same.
Props for opening the parcel with the wheel cutter as a real chad should do.
It's the only way to ensure a packing is truly open to the user.

Mine did not come with one but then again mine wasn't advertised to have one. I think that's why this one was the cheapest I could find.

You won't have any options on console, sorry. If you have a thrusty, you gotta stick with it unless a drive hub might work.
