Ooh... do you do the same for fresh blueberry pie? I've not had that one. But I LOVE blueberries! 🫐💜 Can't believe I hadn't thought of it. So, you cook down half the blueberries for the pie filling type, and mix in another cup or whatever of raw blueberries? That sounds devine!
@@feliciagaffney1998 Yes, cook half of the blueberries add the cornstarch slurry, cook until thickened, cool a bit, add the fresh berries and place in the shell. Basically it's exactly as John did, but using blueberries. Enjoy
@@ronalddevine9587 thank you. I found my great grandmother's recipe. She actually cooks all her berries. She pulls some out to mash first, cooks them all... and I don't think she added the thickener. I don't have it in front of me right now.
Just got home from preparing crockpot pork loin and This Strawberry pie with the handmade pie crust.....WOW! Mom absolutely LOVED the the pie!!! It was so pretty and smells wonderful!
I made this for every holiday the last couple of years and it's a HUGE HIT. But I made my own Graham cracker crust instead and it's absolutely amazing. Thanks for the recipe!! ❤
@@Chadkindred Yes. It does not take long though. I'm pretty sure I just looked up an easy Graham cracker crust recipe. I think cook time is 7 minutes. It's crackers, sugar and butter. I double the recipe because I like a nice thick crust.
One of my FAVORITE thing about you John and your channel is the bloopers….idk if you’d even really call them that but the realism you keep within your videos. Example you going back and saying the potato masher really does actually work the best here. Thank you for this and please don’t ever change who you are ❤❤❤

Instead of (only) cornstarch you could also use jam sugar. It contains extra pectin. Expose pection to heat (around 100c, well just above) and it will set the juice into a thicker liquid. I tend to use it for reductions too, works well with berry based reductions especially! If you didn't know; pectin is the naturally present compound in fruits that helps to set a jam or marmalade!
@@cynthiag3065 no problem! And if you're also watchinf your sugar, you could always look up which fruits contain the most pectin naturally. Lots of berries have a lot of it already, but adding for example shredded apple (especially the peel) can add a bit extra pectin for example And citrus fruits contain so muxh that only them and regular sugar are enough to make it set. That makes marmelade after all :)

That crust 😍. I use a straw to “core” them from the bottom. Quick and easy. Goodness what perfect timing ❤. Last year I cored what I couldn’t use right away and vacuum sealed them. Popped them open the other day and the fragrance was amazing. Delicious in smoothies and would be great to turn into that jammy element.

HI John, Happy Saturday. Hope your weather this weekend is as idyllic as where I am. . I saw this recipe Thursday night. May 9th. Walked into my local grocery on Friday to find Strawberries for $ 1.99 a pound, blackberries and blue berries too. Picked up some frozen crusts and spent this Saturday morning May 11th. making this pie. Right now it is in the refrigerator doing its 3 hour rest. I found the tip about listening for the SOUND of the boiling puree to change to blopps very helpful. The puree came out perfect. The frozen crust are a bit smaller than your masterpiece, but it took all the filling, kind of a mound, My neighbors at my apt building are eagerly awaiting their promised slices. I will take a photo and post it here,,once i figure out how to do that. YUMMMMMM
Many thanks for sharingJohn! I just put your strawberry pie into the fridge! My first ever attempt at making a pie or any dessert to be honest. I also made your base/crust. The smells for both were great! The better half will be surprised when she wakes tomorrow! Thanks again and have a great weekend. mike-barcelona
I first posted on May11th about making this recipe. The results were so delicious I made a 2nd pie this last Sunday , May 19th. Oh My, its Pie ! very very very good. Thank you for an easy and delicious treat.
It’s completely unnecessary to remove the “core” a strawberry because the hull is just as edible and not much of a texture difference for it to make a difference than say an apple core. Just pinch the top or chop it. The straw hack is superfluous nonsense for bored people
Thank you for the nice manners. I was answering his question on how do you take the top off the strawberry. I thought this was supposed to me for nice, positive feed back. Really, try to be kind there is enough hate in the world already.
I made this for my in-laws and everyone liked it so much they asked me for the recipe so they could make it for their friends, who asked them for the recipe after they tried it. It’s a good recipe, make it. 😄 The written recipe says a way to mix it up is to add chocolate ganache to the bottom. That’s what I did and it was very easy to add and delicious.
Never considered a strawberry pie before seeing your vid..thanks!! It does give me ideas on how to also create variations including using different fruits like raspberries or blueberries adopting the same concepts. And I'm thinking it reminds me so so much of a Lemon Meringue, that I could finally get the nerve to make the swiss meringue w some of the fruit filling on top for a nice combo. Anyways, thanks for sharing this recipe - gave me lots of ideas and alternatives to consider too!
Hey! A suggestion you might like: instead of using cold water in your pie crust, try a couple tablespoons of yogurt! It makes a pie crust that is richer, golden, and can be re-worked if necessary as often as you like. My family has been making pie crusts this way for decades now. It's also not quite as fragile as to the amount of "liquid" you are putting into the pie crust. It can go anywhere from a couple tablespoons to half a cup.
Spectacular strawberry creation.... I wonder about some freshly-grated lemon zest added to berry mixture as it's spooned into the crust for extra zing?
This is my first time watching ur channel! I really like your recipes! Especially the cookies, cakes, and brownies! If u have nothing planned to share new recipes, can u plz do a salted caramel cupcake recipe 🤤😋 my mom loves salted caramel. This strawberry pie looks great! My grandmother used to make a strawberry rhubarb pie that was really special, so sweet and tart! Do you have a recipe for a strawberry rhubarb pie?
Thank you so much. I was looking for a recipe like this. The idea someone mentioned of setting a layer of cream chease it is also what I was looking for. I am going to enjoy it somuch. By the way can a simple apple pie be made the same way?

Hi John, I realize this comment isn't germane to the strawberry pie, but I tried several times baking cakes using the cake strips. The cakes definitely turn out much softer around the edges, but it is a bit tricky applying the frosting without tearing the sides of the cake. Perhaps using a piping bag would be better around the sides of the cake layers.
can I used fresh frozen ones? when they go on seasonal sale I buy a bunch and freeze them for Italian ice but i was thinking maybe a strawberry pie might be a nice change.
My mom used to make a pie like this but it had a custard layer on the bottom. The combination was perfect
That is how I am going to make this pie with m hime made custard
