100% after years and years of loving the “core” genre, they are why we have so many good bands that have followed. Man, these guys are seriously underrated with what they have done to the entire scene and genre.
Once I got into the bands I'm into now (especially Meshuggah), I realised that there was no point trying to write music again because there is nothing anyone can do to beat this. It's just defeat in it's finest form. Fucking epic win.
So i saw Meshuggah with Ministry at the Hollywood House of Blues. Meshuggah finished their set and before Ministry came out, Jens Kidman was standing next to the Meshuggah merch booth. I approched him and introduced myself. I thanked him for the great show they had put on, and for the music they had released for all of us to enjoy. I extended my hand as an affirmative hand shake good-bye......it was as limp as a wet noodle. Fucking broke my heart. I still love them though.
meshuggah is the only band that can actually make me stop in place, frozen in pure...i don't know how to explain...i'm not even headbanging during the breakdown, i'm in a complete trance
seen them live once, if you think this sounds good, your ears are gonna spew rainbown when your actually there, the snare was like a gunshot to my head, every single hit...
@mmmcculloch3 You're so right man. When I went to see my first Meshuggah gig I was half expecting the low-tuned stuff to sound flabby and muddy, but both the playing and the live sound engineering were flawless. The later shows I've seen were again crystal clear, so it's not just great on the DVD. Pretty amazing...
Is it just me or has anybody else noticed the perfect coordination between the appearance of the picture on the camera display and the beat on the hi-hat???
@tolisdrums I know for the newer 8 string stuff, the bass is actually tuned up so it's playing the exact same notes as the guitar generally. The scale length of the bass and thickness of the strings and pickups gives it such a different sound. With old songs I imagine he uses a 5 string tuned down a half step to Bb
If they play it as part of their set list of course, They didn't play it the first show in Sydney last year. But they did on the 2nd show =] and yes, it was perfect
@m4j0rbumm3r Saw them live at Brutal Assault in the Czech Republik. Pretty much the hole festival suffered from bad sound. Only Meshuggah refused to play, 'til everything was well mixed, took about 15-20 min extra time, before they could start. Worth every second, totally agree with you, one of the greatest live-sounds I've ever heard :)
@LfunkeyA When i listen I'm glad there is a purposeful removal of the extra linearity that melody implies. For me the rhythms gain more perspectives, because there's one less thing enforcing the rhythm and you can pick and choose different flows or grooves whatever. Change it up every time you listen to it
@LfunkeyA haha, but seriously though, we all have to agree that the end of dehumanization is the most tittyripping composition anyone has ever came up with! xD
@MrProg Yup, in a little card, and when you open it up every triplet from his drums and every Yell from Jens BLASTS out. Kinda dangerous if you think about it.
@Zozol6 Hell yeh. Its actually not apocalyptic in a way. But, if you can agree with me, All the songs on "ObZen" have lyrics that seem to Personify Death and Evil in a very Terrifying and ominous fashion. The song lyrics on "Catch 33" seem to personify a person thoughts, a person who is trapped in insanity and paradoxes "Chaosphere", the songs in chaosphere seem to actually be from perspectives of the Common-choatic-destructive nature of humankind. Meshuggah is shakespeares cyborg.
@SlaveOfNihil never noticed til your comment....too lost in the music...but yeah..haha..beyond amazing they never stop clanging. Meshuggah is like literally being inside of a musically harmoneous math problem that has frustrated scientists for years.
These guys are sick!..I don't care what anybody says, this band throws down every fucking time... To me that's what makes metal what it is... the idea of going all out every fucking time... If you don't get it you're not metal.. and there's nothing wrong with that... We'd rather not see people who are not metal and are not down with going all out at a Meshuggah concert anyways... BTW... Did I mention that these guys are sick?
@LINKENSSPHERE yeah that one sounds great. i'm not saying they're bad musicians from a harmonic/melodic perspective, they just choose to focus on rhythm most of the time.
guys may i pose a question??? I saw meshuggah live on march 31st here in greece, does anyone know what dick does with his bass guitar so that he plays the second string as an open F for these newer songs but also as an open D# for the older songs??? some kind of pitch shift or something like that?...
@mannotaurable Yeah at times Meshuggah almost has a jazzy/fusion approach to their sound. Them avoiding typical song structures and sections is intentional.
@LfunkeyA haha, i didn't say anything bro. but eitherway, Cynic will always be the best harmonic/melodic band to me, it's just that to me there's never been a better time to listen to them! :D
I like that breakdown at 0:00-6:05 !!!!
The only band in the world that reached that level of brutality, complexity, intelligence.and power. You're a miracle, thank you.
Sm0key90 I fully agree
Meshuggah
Blavk Sabbath
Pantera
The beatles, rolling stone and king crimson too
Still true 7 years later and they have aged like the finest of wines
@@02SplinterCell02 Absolutely true, love their recent album. These guys are just unstoppable! "They move below" is pure art.

@@minicello231the concert itself
@@Virtuosity109 what happened during the concert lol. Meshuggah mishaps are so rare
3:10 is perhaps until this day, one of the hardest hitting grooves I have heard in my life.
1:35 hits like a black hole as well
Whoever was the sound engineer deserves an award.
I would love to see a Prog-Metal fest featuring Tool, Meshuggah, Mastadon, and Opeth!
i would literally cum if this ever happened.
Time is of the essence hueheue
That would be mine and many many other people’s dream of a millennia.
Gojira would be a nice addition aswell
At 3:10 I prolapsed.
brutals
meshuggah is inequitably the MOST influential band in metal today...maybe ever

A truly unique band. Nobody sounds like them and I doubt few others could play this stuff let alone write it.
I was at the Toronto show on this tour and still the best show I’ve ever fucking seen
5:42 I can't believe that he looks BORED after palying this song. This guy is a machine/

Sounds just like the studio version, they always play their songs dead on target, almost no flaws \m/
masters, we bow to you
that end piece just blows my mind with harmony!
It doesn't get much heavier than this, this and Spasm are two of the heaviest songs.
that end riff just burst my brain with total harmony! It just cant be played loud enough, !
