Many years ago, when I was a young teen in the mid 1990s, I met a few trans people for the first time.
I had questions so I talked to them, respectfully as I was raised to do.

if gender is merely a social construct, and independent from sex-- why not identify as a girl without going out of the way to alter your appearance to present as the stereotypical and objective primary sex characteristics of a female human the target????? Make it make sense
What right do trans people think they have which obligates those societies which have long established their cultural norms, to abandon their cultural norms and deny objective reality, to embrace theirs???
Looks like self entitled narcissism on the part of the trans people.
Way too many inappropriately and incorrectly conflate gender/sex (There are only 2-- male/female... That's it) with personality traits and temperament (There are a ton and none are gender exclusive-- hence effeminate males, butch females and tomboys), and again with gender roles (without exception refer to the roles of males and females in society) as though they're synonymous and they are not.
Science has already proven that the binary dichotomy of all mammals is male/female.

A man with anxiety about his sex/gender-- still a man
A man calling himself a woman-- still a man

Seethe if you must, but it doesn't change anything. You lost this debate before it started.
A man, presenting as, performing as, identifying as a woman doesn't then become a woman, is a reality that your arguments can't escape.
      Gender/sex = biology, there are only 2 male/female...that's it.
Above, I posted the definition of gender/sex and dated back it's origins to help alleviate the confusion on the facts of the matter
Gender roles= social constructs referring to the roles of males and females in society, which don't change anyone's gender. A dude in a dress is still a dude.
I mean, a dude can dress in a fairy princess Halloween costume if he chooses, but it doesn't actually make him a fairy princess and it doesn't obligate everyone in society to pretend that he is.
I think it's humorous when someone says sex and gender are different, as if that doesn't make the narrative even more absurd. People aren't social constructs. Trans however, is a social construct, and doesn't alter anyone's gender/sex, so the saying trans women are women is just wrong

or it says your mind is broken in more way than one, to have such utterly mis-calibrated perceptions of what is happening around you. if you were to be transported to any time in history other than the modern day, nobody would have time for your self-indulgent nonsense. or if they had to put up with you, it would be for the least amount of time possible, and then they would escape to go be around more relatively normal people again.
but the fact is, people like you may have gotten along just fine in ancient times. they would have known, or learned fast, to keep their mouths shut. it is only now, after modern tech has eliminated so many *actual* difficult issues, which therefore eliminated most of the hard decisions people had to make, and so therefore eliminated all of the mentally disciplined people who once existed and survived in those times, that coddled people like you, decadent, oblivious to real pain, and narcissistic, have begun to soapbox nonstop about all the broken bs going on in your minds. suddenly there are hordes of entitled attention-seekers selfishly demanding that everyone accept whatever aberrant drivel they think up, its worse than sad, its a sign of critical failure in the evolutionary stability of our species.

Orange Bird was then pulled as a mascot and put in the Disney vault for almost 40 years because of Anita Bryant's homophobia, because they didn't want a mascot of "the happiest place on earth" to be associated with such a hateful movement.

Children are holy. They must be defended and protected. The thought of harming a child is considered so taboo that it is easy to rally people for or against something by using "think of the children" as an argument.
Children are holy also in the US.
However, and I'll admit that I'm saying this as an outsider looking in, they are not THE holiest thing in the US Culture.
That honour belongs to the guns.
Everything must be done to protect the children, as long as it doesn't harm the guns. The one thing more important and holy than children.
(And yes, it's an over-generalisation since I am aware that a majority of Americans are for strikter gun laws in order to protect the kids. But sadly, to enough people with power, Guns are Holier than Thou. And they are willing to make their reverence to their Holy Item a fixed part of the Status Quo for everyone).

I got the concept immediately and accepted it as a small but normal part of the world ever since. Re school uniform, it's the law in the UK that the school uniform cannot discrimate on protected characteristics (like race, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender transition) so although most schools do have uniforms or dress codes they have to provide a range of options, from which each student can choose what works for them, rather than defining any particular items as for a specific gender. I'm thankful we are more accepting here, mostly because we don't have the extreme right wing Christian movements that have such power in the US, but those well funded US organisations are trying to bring their influence over here so we can't be complacent.

I think the intellectual tendency to break everything down into specific "isms" kind of overcomplicates things and treats cosmetic intellectual differences as significant. Homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, xenophobia, antisemitism, fascism, etc are all strongly correlated with each other because they're all actually one thing - political expressions of authoritarian personality types. And authoritarian personality is fundamentally a psychological condition of being triggered by people being different from oneself. That's it. Authoritarians psychologically label same as good and different as bad. It's built into who they are, and it's emotionally driven. They'll come up with logical explanations and rationalizations for their views and actions, but it's post hoc, and ultimately disingenuous. Logic and reason have nothing to do with it, and they shouldn't be treated like they were just following a legitimate line of reasoning. They target trans kids because they're different and they're too outnumbered to defend themselves by themselves.

Children are more than welcome to socially transition, they just can't change their body in a permanent way. You know why? Because kids are stupid and too dumb to make decisions for themselves (coming from a teenager). If a kid is really trans, then they'll still be trans when they're 18, and then they can do whatever they want.

My theory: conservatives tend to have a much narrower "empathy distribution", mainly themselves and their close community. Liberals, on the other hand, seem to have a broader empathy distribution, including those they are loosely connected to and even strangers. This is why conservatives who "Have a Black friend" or "Have a gay friend" are often more accepting of their friends' needs. It seems to be why they often start with, "One of my best friends is Black" or "I have a mother, wife, and daughters" as validation of their 'good' position towards groups. Liberals often respond to that with, "You should simply accept Black people, women, etc, because of who they are without needing them in your life." But for conservatives, it seems that they *do* explicitly need them in their lives.

In a recent interaction I had with them, they demanded I produce statistics that had nothing to do with what I said, said they would be happy to provide them if I "couldn't" find them. Then, when asked, refused to actually provide the statistics they insisted they already had, refused to explain how they were relevant to the point and repeatedly claimed _I_ hadn't backed up my statistics, despite the fact I had provided sources and calculations for all of them. One of the statistics was off by 6 people, due to the source I found being taken a few months earlier than the source I had originally learnt the statistic from. _That_ was the "massive" flaw in my argument...
Then, after, in yet another topic. I pointed out that prepubescent kids weren’t either straight _or_ gay, because those are sexualities and they haven’t reached the point of being sexual yet (obviously). They responded claiming I was completely wrong and that kids _did_ have sexuality. So I asked for a citation. The citation they gave agreed with me completely, saying that kids of that age would use the terms “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” but applied them to completely platonic relationships. Yet, despite that, TheMarsCydonia _insisted_ the citation agreed with them, not with me, claiming that kids had “romantic” relationships.
So, yeah, there is no reasoning with them. Better to save your time.

Here's the thing. I don't know if this is a thing in the US, but gender affirmation surgery is absolutely NOT a thing in Canada for minors. In fact, many trans adults will not actually get gender affirmation surgery because being allowed to live as their chosen gender is usually enough. People really need to understand that gender affirmation isn't a light switch. Current practices, at least in Canada, are that you have to have spent 1 year living as your chosen gender before pretty much anything else can happen. The issue is complicated for kids because once puberty has started, it's that much harder to make a change. Puberty blockers are used in the short term to give kids time to figure things out, and this is also done because they are reversible. Affirmation surgery is the last step in transition, if one goes that far, precisely because it is less reversible than every other step of the process. So no, American fearmongers and bigots. Kids aren't getting sex changes. That doesn't happen. That can't happen. This is just another example of bigots looking for a socially acceptable way to be bigots.

    • @FablestoneSeries
      @FablestoneSeries Рік тому +38

Yeah, I know quite a lot of trans women that never plan to get lower surgery. They don't want it, don't feel the need for it, and are happy the way they are.
A topic I have noticed has been coming up a lot recently is this obsession with "what if they change their minds." There was a BBC special several years back where a lesbian couple transitioned to being men, then after a few years changed their minds and transitioned back, stating "we didn't want to be men, we just weren't happy being women." (which is an entirely different subject). It is bound to happen that some people will transition for the wrong reasons. I had a friend who told me me wanted to transition to female because he didn't think his church would accept him as gay but he might be able to convince them to accept him as trans because he could blame his attraction to men on the hormone treatments. (eye roll). But the thing is, it is still their life, and who cares if they make a mistake or change their minds, if they have decided transitioning will make them a happier, then let them be.

    • @ScooterinAB
      @ScooterinAB Рік тому +19

@@FablestoneSeries Yeah, that's precisely why less invasive measures, like lived experience and reversible hormone treatment, are used first. It could be a phase, or it could be a choice made for the wrong reasons (like your church example). It sounds like where I live, you're talking 1-2 years before anything happens, and then a few more years before you'd even get to affirmation surgery. So all these people talking about kids need to calm down because kids are pretty much never going to be in a situation to have affirmation surgery; the leadup to it is likely going to take until they are adults anyways.

It’s not a thing in America either, people just use it as a talking point because they have nothing else to grab at. I’m an adult trans man, and in my state it’s actually illegal to start any medical transition before 18, including HRT. I personally don’t want any surgeries, because I don’t see the point in spending that much money when I don’t have an excessive amount of dysphoria regarding those parts of my body. Maybe it’s because I’m intersex, but I couldn’t really care less about getting something like bottom surgery. Nobody around me wants surgery either, and though we discuss the possibility of top surgery, these people seem to focus on bottom surgery. I’ve never met any trans person who plans on getting bottom surgery, much less a minor who wants it. Really, HRT is the only thing Ive done medically and legally. But most children don’t think about or care about those things, they just want to exist. I transitioned socially in my early teen years, and all I wasn’t thinking about anything medical, I was just excited to finally feel so amazing.
There’s also that damn blockers argument. I really don’t see how bigots don’t realize that blockers are on both sides of the issue. Like you said, it’s just giving the kid more time to figure out what they want, if anything at all. Even if the child does start blockers, it’s a very extensive decision and requires a lot of professional opinions and advice. I started HRT at 18 through informed consent, and even then I was speaking to my doctors the whole time about it. And I mean, that’s how it is for any medical procedure here. They act like gender affirming care is specific to trans people, when anyone can get implants, facial reconstruction surgery, hair implanting, etc etc. Crazy to watch these freaks being in charge of everyone’s right to bodily autonomy when they don’t even understand what they’re talking about.

For me currently it's not an option because of a hard limit I set on it myself for not having any sexual experience, and next to that, I'm terrified of loosing any feeling. Personally, for now, I do not have extreme gender dysphoria concerning the reproductive organs that I do have, but that's the thing: I have no clue what that would be like in relation to someone else, which is why I want to know that for sure first, which, is like, a minefield all on it's own really (ugh dating sucks as a transperson).

I mean literally everything from the conservative argument is rooted in either lies or religious brainwashing. There is literally no statistical or physical evidence in the real world that reinforce any conservative ideology. To be a conservative is to literally deny reality. That's why they can never defend themselves when they're held up to scrutiny. They just use the "that's how it's always been" argument as a way to justify themselves and their archaic beliefs.

I know no one likes the "both sides" argument, but just about all politicians use the bad faith arguments to push things. Its not about what benefits them, not us.
There is just as much manufactured fear over white supremacists and the religious right as there is fear about progressive activists and other deviations from the conservative norm.
That mortality salience is a powerful motivator and warper of perceptions. As long as you are made to feel under threat, you cannot help but escalate, right or left. Thats just basic human behavior.

@@IconicFootball it's so interesting but not nearly as widespread as my fellow republicans are saying. They passed a law in Kansas that biological males who transition can't compete as women. I don't know how much time they spent on the issue and I'm sure they meant well. This last school year, according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association there were 3 transgender students competing as women. They were all competing in bowling. With all the research I have done as a member of my church I began you realize people don't understand transgenders. If they truly did they would have empathy for them and not feel threatened. "Why is that and what does it say about the anti-trans community overall?"
It's because, in general, the behavior of transwomen is far more offensive. I tend not to hear about transmen deliberately invading men's spaces where they're not wanted. I don't hear about them being mediocre athletes, then switching to the opposite sex's leage and taking championships away from other people there. I don't hear about transwomen harassing and threatening gay men who don't want to have sex with someone who has a vagina. But I see the reverse *a lot.*

Because masculinity as they see it is the most valuable yet fragile thing ever, and anyone _choosing_ to not fall in line with toxic macho BS is the greatest affront to their deeply insecure worldviews; trans women just happen to epitomize that. As for why trans _men_ are ignored...same reason that tomboys are tolerated (in youth at least) over sissies, I guess.

A few months ago the church I used to go to had a guest pastor. I was asked if I watched the sermon online? I asked why and was told the guest pastor said this country was turning our boy children into eunuchs as measure for population control. This was in regards to trans kids. I was so appalled that I went home to listen. Sure as shooting he said that and more. He blamed parents and teachers. He didn’t mention trans girls just boys. Yep, you got it right. After a couple of times of not knowing how to respond, my go-to became, "If you think SHE'S cute, you should see the children I had with my first wife, Laquanda."
