The fact that millions of people were ranting and raving about losing TikTok but not about the state of our education tells you exactly where this nation is headed.
The Govt spending our money to pull a stunt of fake banning an app only to reinstate it 12 hrs later with new sensoring of what it's citizens see and can look up...sounds a lot like China and that is now TT...we should all be worried. Years of chipping away at education has gotten us to this point where we are now sitting rolling out eyes at being censored from what our govt will allow us to see on an app. This is a HUGE problem.
I was a student who wouldn't do homework because it was impossible to do so at home. All the learning and education happened during school. Multiple times at the end of the school year, I was told that I was a bright student, but my homework assignments were only 20% complete. However, the teacher passed me, and I did graduate. If there's anything to fix, then the issue would be at the student's home. Holding the student back will only complicate his life, which is already complicated.
The price of egg is high due to BIRD FLU that KILLED MILLIONS OF HENS. No president can "fix" that! And it appears that the Dept. of Ed. can't fix stupid in its MAGA form.
The Pell grant literally saved my life one year in college. This is insane. How did our grandparents sell us out like this? I watched my brother get through college in the 80s with a part time job. I couldn't afford the same college for my kid now.
The government giving out loans for college is exactly why the price shot up.... nobody thinks about the price anymore. They just take out a loan to "pay later," and they never realize that the day to pay comes sooner than you think. Because students don't choose schools based on price due to being able to get a loan no matter their fiscal status from the government, colleges just raise prices and spending on students. The government created the issue, now you are crying for the government to go further...
That is the huge problem isn't it, the SAME PEOPLE who had it easier because their dollars meant more, are now making it seem like we're lazy because we haven't gotten the same things as them, but it was their voting, their placement of politicians that got us here. I was not able to vote when Reagan, the Bushes, or Clinton was elected but we're paying for all the policies that came after. The selling out of our manufacturing to turn us into a service economy, the encouragement of astronomical debt thru credit and loans, an endless war based on lies just to funnel tax payer money to the military industrial complex, financial crises stacked upon one another,.....the older generation screwed us before we could even vote, and then they turned around and condemn younger generations for not being able to find stability, as if we ever had the same opportunities as them. I can't blame my parents, they're immigrants, they didn't vote for any of this because they couldn't vote, but when i hear these Europeanamerican old ppl talking about how lazy ppl are and they don't want to work a real job, it makes me feel like nothing will change because they're too ignorant to realize the damage their generation caused and how difficult it is to get by in the America that they created. I would say to you, look into community college, its cheaper, maybe kids stay close to home to save money. I remember mines was covered by Pell, but grants ain't helping like they use to, my nephew got the highest govt grants one could get and it's still not enough to cover a SUNY, i told the knucklehead to go to a CUNY smh and now he's scrambling to pay without loans.
It's a poorly run business. Filled with power hungry individuals who have no idea how education truly works. Just like bosses who own the factories, but doesn't know how it all works... only the workers do.
Because all it actually did was take funding from schools that needed it to give it to schools that don't need more funding. My school district was the latter until parasitic charter and religious schools drained the budget because they educate less children for alot more money. So not every kid can access an education, no matter how intelligent and hardworking they are. That's not meritocracy, plain and simple.
That's because we only took the students and left teachers and schools behind. Our teachers are underpaid and schools are falling apart. Pulling funding is not the answer.
@@biblesforbreakfast This is a lie that's been repeated over and over yet is totally contradicted by reality. Massive amounts of money gets thrown at plenty of schools which perform horribly. The problem is institutional and cultural. Wasting more money is not the solution. It has failed miserably. It should be obvious that doubling down will only make things worse.
When my son comes home and tells me "they don't fail kids, don't worry" I worry! I worry bc a less educated society is bound to have more kids and feed this loop. The government wants bodies, preferably stupid ones.
I feel as if this an oversimplified perspective on “no child left behind”, I agree that we do need to work the guidelines for success in school. That said, I don’t think the intent was to dumb down society as a whole. If they wanted to do that, they would remove public schools.
@austinhavard8894 it's not simple. For exsample the religious oppose education that they feel would undermine faith. So they hamstring things like scientific literacy, critical thinking and so on. There are groups interested in pushing better edication to. The situation is far more complicated than that, right?
American brain drain is in full effect. Especially with DEI programs. Underperforming students are consistently being allowed into professional programs on the basis of race while high achieving students are being excluded for not being the correct flavor of "diversity"
I've worked in a public elementary school for 15 years. So much has changed Its hard to keep up. Behavior of children is shocking and disturbing. Kids no longer come potty trained. We now have kids in 1st grade pooping in diapers without medical conditions. Kids are violent and curse at everyone including staff. Grades went from 70% at or above grade level to 30% today. We have lowered our expectations on parenting. Parenting is now screen time! Our school has joined in and eliminated any form of consequences to the point that in staff meeting we are told we are giving out too many referrals. Staff turnover is sky high and moral is rock bottom. Staff routinely tell me they are going home to drink or smoke weed to deal with their anxiety. We are on a downward spiral.
Exactly parents who do not train their children in life's basics such as potty training by two years old because overeducated idiot thinks that it's abusive. Kids need discipline and consequences. Parents need to have the right to do what is necessary to raise decent and responsible human beings, this means being allowed to patent without the threat of CPS
Parents have to focus most of their energy on just earning enough to pay the bills. For a lot of people, especially at the lower end of the income ladder, there's not a lot of energy left over for being a parent. Income inequality is the root problem.
And how does dissolving the Department of Education does what?? Allows Republicans to ensure poor people and people of color aren't educated AT ALL. This is NOT how you build a strong nation. You have a nation of idiots pumping out more idiots.
Under performance is a product of what happens when services and funding are cut. If you "fix" the problem by providing "free" choice by parents, most of the kids are going to end up in some sort of religious or homeschooled curriculum. Fast forward two generations - and you'll end up with one of the world's most religious uneducated population outside of Afghanistan's Taliban. And, the billionaires will be just fine with that - they just need consumers and canon fodder to stay rich. Glad I don't have children.

If you take federal money away from public education, two things will happen. The poorer states will become poorer and dumber. The wealthiest states will become smarter and richer. It is as simple as that.
I am a product of the Pell Grant - barely making it. Without the grants and with all the gang recruitments in my childhood neighborhood, I could have easily ended up in prison and wearing an orange jumpsuit all day. no joke.
I grew up in the poor south and had a single parent. I also got Pell Grants and between it and scholarships I wouldn't have made my way out of Community College. Now I'm making six figures. The system worked for me and I guarantee I'm providing more back in the form of taxes and whatnot than I would have otherwise.
This is terrifying. I’m completely dependent on grants and loans to go to school. I’m afraid for my future especially since I’m a woman with autism from a poor family. I just want to go to school and eventually be able to take care of my self and parents one day. Watching this made me feel sick to my stomach and I just wish they’d leave the department of education alone.
What year are you? If your school has a scholarship system you might be able to apply for merit based scholarships based on your current gpa. I was able to apply and get them after my first semester.
@darkgalaxy5548 Considering my health problems, I wouldn’t be able to do physical labor required for a trade. That and going to law school has been my dream since I was a kid. I enjoy going to school.
They're bonds to be specific; Department of Education has nothing to do with their financing. New bonds would need to be printed as the FED bought out the old ones under the student debt. I know it was initially a joke; just giving some context.

My neighbor, a lifelong republican, has a disabled son who relies on the department of educations enforcement of policies to ensure her son get's accommodations. When she found out what republicans were trying to do she went out and changed her registration from republican to democrat.

I've worked in education for 20 years in both public and private schools. One of the essential objectives of the Department of Education (DOE) is to establish and maintain a standard for instruction, that is, to ensure that education maintains a level of quality that applies to all states. There are several reasons for this; in my opinion, the most significant reason is fair competition in the employment market. If, for example, a high school graduate from a Texas school is applying for the same job as a student from a school in South Dakota, they should be bringing equal skills to the job interview. But if the school in Texas places less time teaching math or focuses too little time on geometry, that student may not be competitive with the South Dakota student. We need federal oversight to ensure that all students are taught to the same level of excellence, regardless of their state of residence.
The standards have done nothing but degrade since department of education was founded so if it's clear that they are constantly failing why should we waste money on them that could be better spent by the states?
In 2012 I told a councilor education was under attack by republicans. She wrote that in a memo meant to discredit me, which I obtained legally. She’s in charge of a nursing home in Florida now.
They don't want an even playing field. And by they I mean rich people. They don't want the poor people to have the same education as them, so that they always have an edge over the poor people. Period.
You do know how most schools get funded right? By local property taxes, so the richer area with more valuable homes have more money to fund their local schools. It's not as simple as living in the right district, it's that rich people will keep out "minority".
@@gilbertoflores7397unless people have lived in different parts of town, they will not know. The nicer the houses, the nicer the schools, the more the police patrol.
If we're honest, "good school" means the schools aren't overrun by feral kids with absentee parents. Every school is good if it isn't forced to keep massive behavior issues in its classrooms. Teachers are not parents, counselors, or psychiatrists, but that is what is expected of us now. Kids are pushed through the system, and I end up with a middle school classroom of kids whose reading levels range anywhere from K to 9th grade. Students and teachers are not receiving the support we all deserve.
Isn't the plan to have kids learn from Republican approved curriculums? Aka never teaching kids the ugly side of american history and also capitalism is awesome.

Well explain thank you for bringing up this video Financial education is indeed required for more than 80% of the society in the country as very few are literate on the subject. It is extremely disappointing that American students and American schools are under performing. We have several problem- 1- "No child left behind" has left some children behind. 2- Children are NOT required to learn multiplication tables by rote memorization. And these same children are NOT on reading level. 3- Special Education in under funded. (IDEA) 4- Bilingual Education is under funded. 5- Teacher training and staff development tries to focus on the latest "programs" to support teachers but they are failing. 6- Student loans are ridiculously HIGH, and soo not many people are going into the field of education due to the money potential gain. 7- Managing loan forgiveness programs is not doing the job it should be doing. 8- Public schools, Private schools and Charter schools are not given equitable access to learning. 9- DEI- Trying to take away the truth on how America was created does not make it any less a fact. Project 2025 should not be considered in any form or fashion, because it takes AWAY THE TRUTH on how America was created. 10- Lastly, PARENTS need to get involved in their children's lives, know their children's friends and family, know the school staff before there is a problem at school and even if your child does not have homework that night YOU, the PARENT give your child some homework- Reading, Math, Social Studies or Science. Get ACTIVELY involved. The most important thing, the most important priority in your life is YOUR CHILD. My opinion, and my opinion alone- Donald Trump and MAGA dont' care about your children. They just wanted your vote. Donald Trump told you that. You gave him your vote. Now, do something right and make sure your child gets an education. You know the person Donald Trump is choosing over the Dept of Education will know nothing about "education". It's like our state legislators- they make the rules for education in our state, but few have taught and know what really goes on in public classrooms, private classrooms, charter classroom, etc. Good Luck.
Thank you for laying it out clearly. As a SPED teacher I sometimes get too technical trying to explain the issues to my family or friends who don't get why this is a bad thing.

You can't be pro life and not pro support the child's needs. So sad that it's the kids hurting most in this political war on women, children, the poor, and minorities. I pray the kids who need services get to keep them. Some of them get therapy for physical and speech things too through this department. Do what is right for the kids, even if they are not your kid. We were ALL kids once. Do right by past you and future them. Also, why are teachers being lied to? I was told to work in schools where teachers were being hit by kids for ten years to get an ed degree paid off. A lot of teachers did that and are also not getting what they were promised.

Over time people won’t go to college. You can be coy and claim this is the greatest thing since sliced bread- it’s not. I will point out an obvious profession that requires college…. The medical profession. We are already hurting for medical professionals. Short term people turn to the trades, but as these professions are flooded, income potential decreases. Incomes across America will be in the decline. This is incredibly short sited.
@ I understand, but those that call for the end of the DOE don’t. Soil scientists, agricultural engineers, veterinarian (they don’t just treat cats and dogs they care for our food supply)- one can go on and on the need for an educated population. Instead of giving tax breaks we should help ease the burden of education of all kinds. Strengthen our country as a whole, not give handouts to the wealthy. We voted for what is about to befall this country.
It is called H1-B visas per Trump and Republicans. They will outsource all of our professions for cheaper labor. This is not my viewpoint, but at this point, I wouldn't be surprised.
The number of people going to college is already on the decline and even then those who graduate have to face *years* paying off student loans. The president even had to step in and provide a student loan forgiveness plan because of how bad it was. Education will still exist and people will still have the opportunity to go to school, it’s really not going to be as bad as you make it seem, but I understand your logic
There's not nearly enough people going for STEM degrees in college as it is. College is incredibly expensive, and admissions are heavily skewed towards women right now. Personally, I'd be interested to know why less and less young men are going to college.
So- someone who “ran” a college that FAILED & CLOSED, cheated students & failed to provide an education - that someone wants to decide the fate of education for all the students who rely on education to a better life? That person attended private schools - sure makes the case for public education

Speaking as a public education teacher, I acknowledge education is failing miserably. Teachers are quitting at higher rates than ever before and more unqualified teachers are replacing them, lasting 3 years or less before they also quit. Personally, I am fed up with district policies that undermind the classroom teacher. For example, inappropriate student behavior is largely ignored by administrators and students are no longer held accountable for their lack of achievement. The NAEP report clearly reveals math and reading scores are plummeting, yet we simply continue to promote and even graduate students without demonstrated mastery of the content. Consider also a Google inquiry reveals that 54% of adult Americans are reading below a 6th grade level. Still, it's incredibly naive to think abolishing the DOE will improve public education. State DOEs already fund the majority of public school systems, set the standards and provide curriculum. It's simply unrealistic to consider states will have the resources to ensure LEAs are complying with federal law including IDEA, let alone implement grants and student loan programs for college students.
Inappropriate students, handicap students, educational challenges, all need funding. In the 50’s, educationally challenged students were just being tutored. I was one of them. My whole career was in programs operated through the Department of Education (TRIO Programs), and the Office of Civil Rights. I served as Director of Disability Support Services on 5 college campuses. I can say that, without the Department of Education there would be rampant discrimination of disabled college students, including our disabled veterans, who want to return to school, especially at private colleges (state schools are better). The amount of discrimination against disabled people among private college administrators is disgraceful. One college admissions director asked me how she could “screen out” people with disabilities. The Department of Education is responsible for preventing this, and if it weren’t for the intervention of the attorneys at the OCR, some of my students would have been screwed.
Notice that conservatives are also the ones going after libraries right now. I don't care what they claim to find "offensive." One party is making a point to attack education on several fronts: where folks can attend school, how well those schools are funded, what sort of secondary education a person can feasibly obtain, and even what people can read. The only reasonable conclusion that one can draw is that a certain subset of the conservative wing must desire an uneducated populace that is lacking in critical thinking skills and unable to freely and easily seek information on their own - particularly information with which that certain subset of conservatives might disagree. They're attempting to shape more malleable minds, and they're becoming increasingly brazen in the attempt. There is something deeply nefarious in that.

But in reality, the point for Trump, Elon and rich folks is to get more people to think like this because they encourage a further decline in having the opportunity to learn about the past! And how history repeats itself when you remain ignorant. Unfortunately, learning this requires education, reading, learning how to seek knowledge from reputable and diverse sources of information, which is what is being taken away from American citizens without them understanding it.

I hope people know that states and federal have been reducing education funding for years. In my time as I graduated high school, the whole district did a major cut in spending. Public colleges are struggling with budgeting as state cuts back funding for the year. Its kinda dumb that we say our education system is bad, and our kids are stupid when we keep defunding it. I didn't get a history degree and spend years learning about the control of education just for the Department of Education to get dismantled and put in the hands of the states. I will throw my hat in the ring to run the Department of Education in my state. Image the chaos of having disjointed, vague and unrelated teaching standards between each state. Graduates who move out of state to work will be greatly affected and each state would be able to further push their own agenda. We need government agencies to hopefully continue the system of checks and balances.
Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t states already have control over their teaching standards? I mean isn’t this why someone certified to teach in the state of Texas would need to get certified for the state of Wisconsin?

I see a lot of philosophical opposition to the Department of Education, but no attempts to try to explain what sort of structures to put in place of it. One thing to understand about IDEA is that without heavy enforcement this bodes badly for many suburban kids as well as urban children because these suburban school districts tend to underfund their Special Education departments and then ship these kids off to charter schools for kids with disabilities, all in an effort to make their test scores appear higher and "costing less" than urban schools. Like a Spanish saying says: "All that shines bright, isn't gold"
@Mito383 Thing is I have people who do work with kids who have disabilities, it's apparent to anyone who looks at smaller, suburban districts that they literally have at most 5 people on staff at a given school. While part of that may be population size, the bigger issue is that they also don't get as much federal funding as larger urban districts do so they are less inclined to find these programs. It's not gonna be a peer reviewed paper on the subject rather than the funding data for school districts of your local area.
I have yet to see the Federal DOE enforce anything. I taught fur 20 years. This is why so many kids with IEP’s have parents who have to go through a Due process hearing to get what is promised by IDEA. The Federal Gov. enforcing it is a joke.
The trouble that schools started having with failing students is that many kids were no longer motivated by a failing grade to try harder. So if you fail them all, the school would end up with massive numbers of kids failing. Which looks bad for the school. Hence the passing of kids who didn't earn it. I think a lot of the problems we have with schools these days is that we stopped being allowed to guide students towards a trade or skills based career. Everyone had to be "college ready" whether they planned to go to college or not. If kids could see a direct connection between their classes and a future career, they might be more motivated. 🤷♀️
How about parents pushing sports as the answer to our children? Sadly so many are “passed” by schools due to excellence on the court or field. It has permeated the schools for tax reasons. Push academia and trades for a successful life.
Conservative here - i have no problem with public schools. I have a problem with how it has turned into tax paid day care now. Ask almost any teacher that has been teaching for 10+ years. They have seen schools dramatically change for the worse. My mom was a teacher 30 years and she said "no child left behind" is when things really took a change for the worse.
I tried substituting after a career in medicine. I lasted 3 months, I was shocked at what was going on in the schools. There was a minority that was learning, the rest was chaos, absolute chaos. I was more upset than any day I had at an inner city hospital. This is our future!!!! Parents get involved and quit your whining.
Picture living in poor MS! This state is poor because the people don’t value education ! Every child gets a laptop starting in 4th grade😮 I work in an all black school district that gets $59 million and the kids are still failing! Wanna know why??? Because of bad behavior and the kids don’t care to learn how to read! They curse us out and will not stay seated! I am describing elementary school so picture how the kids are in the high school. They also keep passing kids on that can’t read! If you can’t read, you shouldn’t go to second grade 😮
I don't see a lot of parents being called out for this. It's become the social norm to blame the children. ("tax paid day care" made me think of it - I didn't misread your comment 🙂)
You are halfway to understanding. We are screwed with any republican and any democrat. Both sides are at fault for all of this. Their ego and greed has put us into a continual decline for decades.
The US is technically screwed no matter who is in power. Both republicans and democrats are corrupt. The country is a crumbling empire with a crazy, power hungry dictator that the majority of you guys elected into office. Good luck America from a Canadian whose country is also screwed.
Passing No Child Left Behind was a disaster accomplished by both parties. And kept going by billions of dollars. We have succeeded in making kids and teachers hate school, while Finland and others pass us by, using what they learned from us when we were doing well.
The department of education is there to make sure poor and disabled kids get an education. They give Pell grants so the poorer kids can get a college degree or only the rich would have college degrees. The states can’t support the schools in their states. Do you really think they care if kids eat lunch? I heard one congressman from a red state say to someone telling them kids need free lunches to learn “ show me the proof they need to eat to learn”. This is what the states can’t support reproductive feels about kids in their states. They are already taking money from public schools to give money to people of means to send their kids to private schools in North Carolina. I assume other red run states are doing it too. There does need to be an alternative to no child left behind, because we see the kids graduating and only reading at a 5th grade level. There needs to be no more teach to test. There’s got to be a better way.
My son is 20, so just a couple of years removed from the public school system, and I asked him what grade he would give the system overall, and he said a "C." The scary part is that the schools he went to are actually pretty nice and well run. But a well run pretty building doesn't mean adequate education. And it's not just the schools that need to do better, but also the parents. Education starts at home. If parents are not well educated, how can we expect their children to do much better. It's a vicious cycle to create an ignorant populace who will put up with subpar leadership, lessening of democratic rights and freedoms, and be content with shiny gadgets.

Civics doesn't exist, and now people actually believe you are whatever gender--or species--you think you are, including a cat. I think we can get rid of the Department of Education and try clawing our way back up.
I can say with great confidence that no department, including education, will be removed during the next 4 years. You need 2/3 of both chambers to agree to add or get rid of a department, and Republicans don't have those numbers. Especially after the 2026 midterms. They may do whatever they want to it, but that foundation will still be there to rebuild upon.
Im going to go against the curve here. The department of education has messed up for decades now. Tearing it down completely and building something new might be a good idea.
Cool, so point to me that "something new" that the Trump administration is proposing on building, then we'll do a cost-benefit and pros-cons analysis of it vs the DoE. Go ahead, find out what that "something new" is for us.
@@jasonrabeiro2009 Cool, so point to something good that the DOE has done. I mean our declining position in the world for education doesn't show any good done.

Even if we were to do that having someone that's only been on a education board for only a year isn't going to do a good job of "building it up". Also why do we need to tear something down that's been in place for so long why not just make changes to it to improve it that would make more sense
The Pell Grant is a blessing for the working class and a lifesaver for those coming from deep poverty. I can't believe people actually voted for this man. 😭

New Jersey did one worse: They stopped requiring English and math!
I only ever remember my teachers complaining about the department of education imposing expectations that had nothing to do with learning, but everything to do with numbers that look good on a report
3 дні тому
Then shortly after, they started misreporting the numbers. Some were caught and people gasped about "Grade Inflation" but nothing was actually done.
Lol cause they are doing so well in teaching our kids, this department is just a bunch of people dipping their hand in a pot that's supposed to be filled with resources for our kids.
Its the Orwellian naming convention we've adopted as a country, who doesnt support education? Defense department? Well yea, who doesnt want us defended? Just because the name says something doesnt inherently mean thats what the department is accomplishing.
when you look at what it does, rather than take some uninformed contrarian stance, you see that services like setting common standards and mandating education services for the disabled and special needs, those are good things being gotten rid of for no good reason than to give already rich people more tax cuts. Idiocy.
My daughter goes to a school where 96% of the kids read below grade level. Do u know why she goes there? Bcuz that school is zoned to our house, and the county won’t allow me to send her to the school 1 mile over where 75% of the kids are performing. The system is flawed in so many ways and NEEDS to be overhauled.
I read in the news the other day that in New Jersey the TEACHERS won’t have to pass written tests nor math tests to be able to teach there. So I don’t think the way they’re doing things now is working. Students don’t know basic bath and can’t read. I don’t know the solution for it, but I’ll be homeschooling my kid.
I do agree that the Education Systemin the US needs to change, updated & fact checked for antiquated rhetoric & ideologies. But complete abolition of the Dept. is simply the act of ignorant, wealthy elitists seeing any service from the state that doesn't directly affect them as "socialist exuberance." They can't comprehend the idea that the government, a power for & of the people, actually have & should help those of us at the bottom.
CNBC, you have a big gap in reporting here. (Context- I am a teacher in a school with a 1/4 refugee population and ~60% of students have another home language other than English. ) Like IDEA, most funding for ELL/ESL programs comes from the Department of Education. It is implemented by the states, but federal law mandates equal access to education, and the money comes from the federal level. Translation, accommodation, support, and specially trained teachers all rely on its existence. If that money’s gone, tens of thousands of students will be hung out to dry. There is nothing protecting English language learners, nothing. Without funding for specialized support or a proper investigative group to make sure these laws are being met, there is nothing preventing students without English proficiency being expected to do math, science, English, and social studies entirely in English. And unfortunately the pervasive anti immigrant rhetoric means the needs of ELL students are being largely ignored in the conversation around DoE. “Just learn English” does not work. Every student is capable, but when you don’t provide necessary resources to a group of students based on linguistic/racial biases, they aren’t failing school, the country is failing them.
The education system deserves to be dismantled. Public education in this country is dominated by overpaid, parasitic administrators who do nothing but make life difficult on teachers and staff. They let the parents and students run the show. They bow down to the almighty consultants that preach "new theories" in education despite there being no proof they work. The consultants convinced administrators that phonics is outdated, now these kids can't read. Testing companies sold testing packages up the wazoo, now they have to teach to the test. There's no book on the test, so the kids have never read a book. Many education departments have eliminated after school detention, Saturday suspensions and other consequences and the kids run all over them. Education allowed salesmen to come in and run them raw. Universities have long been a money grab. They keep charging more and more because they know people will pay for it. They convinced employers that workers don't deserve to be paid a fair wage if they didn't go to school for some arbitrary BS to work a job that has nothing to do with it. It's so backwards. Most middling office jobs that require degrees can be learned in four months. Inexpensive, four to seven month certificates should suffice for just about any job, discounting the medical, law, or engineering and related fields. There's no reason why someone with a psychology degree should be getting paid more than someone with a decade of experience. If you want someone who can commit to something and exhibit discipline, hire a vet with at least 4 years active duty service with an honorable discharge. I'd rather hire that person over some poor soul with 50,000 in debt and a communications degree. This system is broken. Tear it down. We have nothing to lose.
But yet, you all have allowed billionaires to come in and bamboozle you! Trump, Vivek, Musk, and the rest are far worse than any administrator or consultant that you have ever laid eyes on! Screenshot this for future reference…

The price of college is not set by the US Department of Education.

The government giving out loans for college is exactly why the price shot up.... nobody thinks about the price anymore. They just take out a loan to "pay later," and they never realize that the day to pay comes sooner than you think.
It definitely succeeded. We just weren't the ones who benefited from it.

We have lowered our expectations on parenting. Parenting is now screen time!
Yea unfortunately that is what they SHOULD be doing. But in reality they do way more…..so let’s cut it down to just that - managing standards.
The standards have done nothing but degrade since department of education was founded so if it's clear that they are constantly failing why should we waste money on them that could be better spent by the states?

If we're honest, "good school" means the schools aren't overrun by feral kids with absentee parents. Every school is good if it isn't forced to keep massive behavior issues in its classrooms. Teachers are not parents, counselors, or psychiatrists, but that is what is expected of us now. Kids are pushed through the system, and I end up with a middle school classroom of kids whose reading levels range anywhere from K to 9th grade. Students and teachers are not receiving the support we all deserve.

It is extremely disappointing that American students and American schools are under performing. We have several problem-
1- "No child left behind" has left some children behind.
2- Children are NOT required to learn multiplication tables by rote memorization. And these same children are NOT on reading level.
3- Special Education in under funded. (IDEA)
4- Bilingual Education is under funded.
Project 2025 should
not be considered in any form or fashion, because it takes AWAY THE TRUTH on how America was created.
10- Lastly, PARENTS need to get involved in their children's lives, know their children's friends and family, know the school staff before there is a problem at school and even if your child does not have homework that night YOU, the PARENT give your
child some homework- Reading, Math, Social Studies or Science. Get ACTIVELY involved. The most important thing, the most
important priority in your life is YOUR CHILD.
It's like our state legislators- they make the rules for education in our state, but few have taught and know what really goes on in
public classrooms, private classrooms, charter classroom, etc. Good Luck.
Thank you for laying it out clearly. As a SPED teacher I sometimes get too technical trying to explain the issues to my family or friends who don't get why this is a bad thing.

Even engineers and lawyers need schooling, plus scientists, teachers, etc... plenty of markets being hit hard with the lack of candidates.

Glad someone realizes this!!
@@lynne4948that's what will happen. Administrators will try to find ways to leave students somewhere else to not affect them with scores.
I’d love to see your sources for that.

I just think the department has been poorly managed

$39 billion in American Rescue Plan aid to over 5,000 American colleges and universities to safely reopen from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure students have additional financial aid and support.
$895 million awarded in competitive grants to recruit and develop highly qualified educators, and support affordable, comprehensive, high-quality pathways into teaching, and help schools address the needs of all learners - including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
$130 billion in American Rescue Plan aid across America to address academic, mental, and physical health impacts of COVID-19 on children.
And a host of other initiatives and accomplishments. Just because you refuse to educate yourself on the *very real* benefits the DoE have done for this country, does not make them any less real.
@@jasonrabeiro2009 Well the "something new" is closer to transferring the powers of the current federal DOE to the states own education boards in order to firstly Remove the Federal governments power over America's schools, And secondly making changes in schools easier by making it so it only has to go through state and local school boards
Even if we were to do that having someone that's only been on a education board for only a year isn't going to do a good job of "building it up". Also why do we need to tear something down that's been in place for so long why not just make changes to it to improve it that would make more sense
And they wonder why no one wants to have kids anymore
I pretty sure more and more parents want to decide where their money goes for education not the government. Poor and rich.
Bro. What money? To what school? There's nothing to fill the gaps dude.
@ governments would never get any of the funds in the first place.
The Pell Grant is a blessing for the working class and a lifesaver for those coming from deep poverty.
I can't believe people actually voted for this man. 😭
All I know is if they get rid of the department of education they better get rid of student loans
Yes
The cost of the dept isn't the main issue.
The quality of education students are receiving has dropped drastically since it was created. It was a failed experiment that has gone on too long.
Invest in PUBLIC EDUCATION! Minnesota has quality education because of this commitment.
Whatever students learn in class are unlearned, forgotten as soon as they start watching tiktok
@Alienwatcher China troll? Pudong office 149?
If students are using AI to complete their coursework, is education even taking place?
I agree
1000 and 2000 level courses are busy work courses. It's not until 3000 and 4000 level courses should you start putting some effort into learning the topics but this various on the major or minor.
This comment section is full of boomers and bots who haven’t been in school in years and clearly have never tried to use AI to do an assignment, it’s not that good, i’m in college right now and the only thing it can do effectively is maybe write a paper, but they have AI detection so it’s still basically impossible, plus you’ll fail the tests anyway if you cheat on the coursework. (I am in college right now)
As a student, most students I know are not using AI. The use of AI is considered plagiarism and it’s not even a remotely good or effective tool.
Well, get used to AI!
As the parent of a child with a low inceidence disability, I am VERY concerned. If a school didn't have to provide access for my deaf daughter, why would they? It costs a lot and we are only one family so we have no power if they choose not to.
The question is. Is the DOE doing a good job? Is the education system in America doing well? What are the results? It's broken AF in case you didn't know. This is another case of Trump is doing it so its bad bad bad, trump bad blah blah blah
This education system has been failing us for a while now. I'm more concerned with the way we are taught in schools.
Exactly 💯 💯 💯 it's all crap of what they teach children or should I say they just keep passing them with bad grades. School is not the same anymore besides what they learn in school has nothing to do with the real world also so much fights and drug infested bullies I could keep going on on top of that they teach them false history because they don't want thinkers they want workers for the rest of our lives 😔 we are living in end times stayed prayed up 🙏 California is on fire 🥺
New Jersey did one worse: They stopped requiring English and math!
I only ever remember my teachers complaining about the department of education imposing expectations that had nothing to do with learning, but everything to do with numbers that look good on a report
As I have said before
Maybe my grandkids can join the helldivers
Defend the SuperAmerica from the forces of literally everybody else
when you look at what it does, rather than take some uninformed contrarian stance, you see that services like setting common standards and mandating education services for the disabled and special needs, those are good things being gotten rid of for no good reason than to give already rich people more tax cuts. Idiocy.
How are kids being protected right now? The people need a receipt for all this federal and state money going out constantly
We must better educate citizens and give kids hope that they can succeed at anything they choose. Parents have to care; it is their responsibility.
Poor education means more Trump voters
Bingo and butts on church pews
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE ! ! !
Woohoo!
Do you have data and statistics for this what do you mean by that
@@RonDoncombe the source is you have to be pretty uneducated and incapable of thinking for yourself to think trump's a good idea
How do you think their going to have cheap labor… repeal child labor laws, remove public education and put parents out of work
yup.
Since the founding of the department of education not a single metric has improved in pupil performance. It's clearly not working.
Of course the dept of Education needs restructuring however, this administration is the very last I’d ever trust to do so.
Economist would be well aware the Risk of “vicious circle of poverty” if poor or needy don’t get right level of support for education
We should be making education accessible for all. This is a step in the opposite direction.
Its obviously not doing anything, we are dumber spending more than any other country on education
Thanks, I'm sick of different flavors of "Throw more money at it"
I read in the news the other day that in New Jersey the TEACHERS won’t have to pass written tests nor math tests to be able to teach there. So I don’t think the way they’re doing things now is working. Students don’t know basic bath and can’t read. I don’t know the solution for it, but I’ll be homeschooling my kid.
That’s a lie because my sisters is studying education in NJ and she is preparing for her state tests…2025…
Every child with an intact brain must be educated properly using best known instruction.
I do agree that the Education Systemin the US needs to change, updated & fact checked for antiquated rhetoric & ideologies. But complete abolition of the Dept. is simply the act of ignorant, wealthy elitists seeing any service from the state that doesn't directly affect them as "socialist exuberance."
They can't comprehend the idea that the government, a power for & of the people, actually have & should help those of us at the bottom.
CNBC, you have a big gap in reporting here.
(Context- I am a teacher in a school with a 1/4 refugee population and ~60% of students have another home language other than English. )
Like IDEA, most funding for ELL/ESL programs comes from the Department of Education.
Tons of federal government departments need be abolished
Can you show the specific studies to back up your claim?
When people only care about cutting costs and increasing profits; suddenly everyone is an accountant.
It should be back on the states not the feds
wow, surprised to see a CNBC video with some journalistic integrity, it was a good watch, thanks !! Also 100+ points for leaving the comments open. A bit too much on Project 2025 and not enough explaining what a failure the DoE has been, but informative and balanced - well balanced in terms of what we're used to.
All I he said was he was going to put it back in the states hands. I’m confused with all the fuss.
College has gotten ridiculously expensive. I believe public college should be affordable, if not free, just like K-12. We need an educated society.
