Django's name comes from a series of Westerns in the 70s staring an actor named Franco Nero. Franco Nero even has a cameo as the man who asks Django how he spells his name. Also, Samuel L Jackson is 75 years old.

Series is a bit of an exaggeration; there were two movies, both starring Franco Nero! But it was very popular outside of Italy to give many Spaghetti Westerns the title Django! Some of them also starring Franco Nero! But the only real Django movies are “Django” from 1966 and “Django strikes again” from 1987!

This is one of DiCaprio's all time best performances. He actually cut his hand smashing a glass when he slammed his hand on the table and kept going. Rubbing the blood on Hildie's face was a disgustingly genius improvisation that really sold the moment. Highly recommend his performance in The Basketball Diaries as well.

To explain the D, it basically works like in French: J on its own in French is pronounced something like the GE in beige in English. To denote a sound like the English J, the French use DJ (as in the country of Djibouti). I don't know why the name Django uses that spelling convention, but its use here is a reference to spaghetti westerns. A lot of European movies in the '60s and '70s were multinational co-productions, which might explain the French influence, but I'm not sure.

Please don't take this personally; your questions really highlight the lack of education about this time in American history. "If a Black person has enough money and they're married to a while person, are they treated like a white person?" Interracial marriage became legal in 1967. Edit: When asking why "Old Ben" never cut his daddy's throat. All that talk was B.S. There were over 250 uprisings among the enslaved. When they failed, what do you think happened to them, their children, their families? Enslaved had to be intelligent enough to suppress emotional reactions as a means of survival, not to mention the psychological torture they endured.

@@AwesomeUSMovies I backed it up and to make sure I heard correctly. Of course I could be mistaken. Even with that statement, it's highly unlikely that a very wealthy Black person would be "treated like a white person" even after slavery. (It's possible they may be more likely to be killed). There were several Black towns, (with professionals), that were burned and the residents massacred (Tulsa, OK, Atlanta, GA, Wilmington, NC, Rosewood, FL, Elaine, AK) One hundred years after slavery, Blacks were being lynched for "not knowing their place". A wealthy Black person (like Madame C.J. Walker) might have been better off, but they would not have enjoyed the same freedoms. Anyway, regardless I enjoy your channel.

I thought you said you read books a lot? Well apparently you didn't read anything about the struggles of my people during slavery days. Which a lot of has to do with what black people deal with today that everyone is unaware.
Mandingo fighting bought certain type of slaves just for the Mandingo fighting sport. The slave masters would purchase and have them fight another slave master's purchased fighting slave. They were forced to fight each other to the death, at the sport of the Masters.
