Brillant!! Looking at your work evolved in this video is amazing!!! This object could have been so so many things and all of those incarnations would have been as stunning as your final result!!! Truly enjoy your work and videos!!
Hi there hope you’re well. I love things that are meant to be one thing and turn out to be another. Still love your work . Once again amazing job. Have a great holiday and stay safe. I love the colours in wood so beautiful. Once an artist always an artist. Stunning
Reminds me of a full deli ham. I like how the simple pattern becomes more elaborate just by carving! My caveman brain doesn't fully understand but it's satisfying to watch. Keep up the good work!
Once again, another stunning piece - even though it wasn’t as planned. However the title had me worried 😱. “In the next video, I’ll be showing you how to wood turn with 3 fingers” 😳.
I can see what you intended, but I think at the 7:30 mark you didn't like all the beads with the overall shape.😅 I think it still is very nice work, and someone will buy it.
At what point did it stop being a lamp or a base for a lamp (besides the hollowing out part obviously)? The wood just didn’t look right as a lamp as you were turning it? (I’m an artist so I know how a project just morphs into its own thing sometimes).
Woodworking enthusiasts, this is great! I struggled for ages with low-quality plans, but everything changed when I found a collection of 16,000 woodworking plans. I even made a video to share the excitement!
@@JackMackWoodturning 😄 You always crack me up! Looks great as whatever, of course. I'm hoping to get my 78 year old mother into wood lathing next summer. Even if it's to be on her feet and making hundreds of toothpicks 😁
Strange thinking to cut up a piece of good quality mahogany into smaller pieces and insert light wood as a contrast and produce something which lacks integrity, looks cheap, is confusing in its design and has no particular design language. As an experiment I think it has been less than successful. As a piece of turning it is OK. But as good design it is a failure. I’d call it bumpy wood with wavey lines.
It’s Jarrah not mahogany. And the title is a nod to the fact that it came out looking like a poo. I’m sorry if your goal was to hurt my feelings.. I’m really not as emotionally invested in this as you seem to think 😂💩
@ then why make a virtue out of failure? My intention was to critique. My life has been as a designer, educator and Dean of a University. I trained as a furniture maker. Critique is the act of analysing the process of making by telling truth as seen by observers - student, colleagues and teachers with a view to ensuring openness and honesty. Sometimes the truth does not always make for a comfortable feeling. But in the maelstrom of a creative life students have to prepare for an uncomfortable ride and be confident in their practice. Just think what you could have achieved with that lump of Jarrah. I appreciate your honesty and self discovery. Keep at it.
@@iscadean6038I'm sorry you see it as a failure- I would look on it as a learning process and as such is not a failure, also my skill level is nowhere near the turners but he certainly inspires me to do better whereas if your comments were directed at me then they would certainly not be inspirational. I am therefore happy I didn't have the misfortune to attend your school where obviously perfection is the minimum acceptable standard. Kudos to the turner for his response to your "critique" (which critique reminded me of his own opinion of the piece)

Also, he doesn't give a flip for the folks who make him money...the viewers who comment. Can't even respond...what a jerk!!! I would NEVER sub to someone like this.

Lovely looking vase but I don’t understand the title ,did something go wrong that I missed?
Nice work sir 👏👍
Very nice. What kind of wood is the dark one? It looks like the light stuff is oak or ash.
It's not really a weekend, until Jack Mack comes up in my feed.

If the maker is happy and satisfied that’s so be it not everyone likes the way something comes out
👍👍👍👍👍
Cracking job anyway! ...new subscriber here and seems we are not that far a way from each other. Cheers,Bram
How are you not getting snipe from such short pieces going through the planer?
Neat piece...no maker's mark?...dgp

So why could it not be a lamp?
I’m sure it could have, but it ended up being a vase.

I was expecting to see something that obviously stood out to me as an error, but I didn't-did you just change your mind partway through?
It ended up looking like a poo 🤫😩
