Thank you Stef for reminding us of why we fly. The pandemic started only a few months after I got my license. I still enjoyed every flight I did, but flying from a grass strip that is prone to flooding makes it quite difficult to get in the air at times. I still enjoyed every single flight and especially the trips that made me explore my county and meet people. Edit: I am writing this comment lying in bed at 10am having just woken up... jup lazy me this moring. :)
Beautiful morning, beautiful city. I miss Melbourne more every day. I lived there for only six month but it was the best time. Just got my private license and I hope to return soon to fly around the city like you are . Greetings from Germany and have a great day y‘all
Got me all emotional, man - beautiful flight, but also got me processing what I had to give up when I realised that my eyesight would make me an unsafe pilot even if I did use a loophole to get back up there. Thanks though, honestly - much rather process it in this bittersweet way, than get hit by straight-up bitter at some random other time. Appreciate you doing what you do, and sharing it with us.
i used to see the balloons from the freeway on my way to work pre-covid, would be unreal from the air. good on you getting up early stef! also airforceproud would love the "traffic 2 hot air balloons" 😂
Beautiful shots of the city and what a day to fly! You're totally right, it is so easy to stay home and take it easy however you miss out on amazing opportunities like this one. Great video thanks!
Your flights always remind me there is so much more to this world than what we see looking up, for 7-10 minutes your videos take my mind away for what seems hours but is only minutes. Your quality of content and your quality as a person takes me away into the skys each and every time i watch your videos for more than a year now. Regardless of openions, views and likes you should never stop being you, its you that makes these vidoes what they are, the rawness, true and open nature of them is what you are as a content maker and person. Thank You Stefan, untill next time you can be lazy but your always have clouds in your head, long as you do, the sky will be calling.
There a display of pride and professionalism if I ever saw it - coiled tie down rope placed neatly under the wing - nice work Stef, like your style! ...now to watch the rest of the video 🤣.
Love your videos. Was watching with closed captions on. 6:05 cracked me up. "flapping rabbit trapping" ....flap in. Moorabbin traffic. Cirrus SR22 is my dream aircraft. Spend countless flying it in VR on MSFS.
Thanks Stef for the videos, being an ex Melbournian, it is great to see the sights from the air. I was wondering, who does the translation at the bottom of the screen, is that UA-cam? Some of the translation is very comical to say the least. keep up the good work.
Early morning general aviation is an item of beauty. Oftentimes there is mist over the airfield as the hangars open up and light aircraft of all sorts are maneuvered onto the taxiways by hand and checked for pre-flight. Soon, 'clearprop!' breaks the silence and in minutes dozens of aircraft are enjoying the smooth, cool morning air.
Thanks for taking us along Stef. And if there's one thing I've found - and I'm sure you'll appreciate as a fellow dev - often the best content is the one you make for yourself, rather than for others!
I just looked up Moooorabbin in the ERSA after hearing your radio call and didn't realise it was only towered from 8am. If I can ever get our of WA ill drop by in the microlight. Morning flights are so peaceful.
I took my dad flying on a very similar morning, about ten years ago. He was visiting from England. Summer in Australia. We got up in the middle of the night. Flew from Moorabbin in a 172. Couple of city orbits, messed around above some pretty fog patches near lilydale, saw some balloons. We even had the same few hundred feet of low level chop below the subsidence inversion, with perfect air above it. This video bought back nice memories.
Thanks Stef, what beautiful time of the day for flying, smooth air, a quite radio with the sky pretty much to yourself (making life a bit easier for those straight ins). Great shots of the city and surrounds, I especially loved the balloon traffic (and the great footage you got of them also), something I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing as yet during my journeys as a PPL. Cheers, Andrew
I love early morning departures and twilight arrivals. Makes one feel alive. Great work getting your lazy self out of bed and motivated for the day. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My dad learnt to fly with the Empire Training Scheme in WW2 in Tiger Moths & Harvard’s in Southern Rhodesia. They were up woken well before dawn every day so they could fly early & avoid the choppy weather. He loved flying that time of morning.
Totally enjoyed your video thanks Stef. You captured so very well one of the best reasons to be in private aviation - To be flying your own plane in the smoothest of air and appreciate beautiful views of your city showcased in the dawn's golden light. Loved it!
What a magnificent fly over the city of Melbourne it’s always nice to be curious and explore the world outside especially in wonderful conditions like that. I got a little emotional watching how beautiful it was put together, sure gonna miss this when I head back to the states for good in June.
Thankyou for the great video, again, Nothing better than a great sunrise. I am only a RC pilot but usually cycle early and see great sun rises over the ocean near Ballina. There are numerous Cirrus aircraft fly in and out of Ballina including my son, occasionally, in his SR22.
Wow great views early in the morning, enjoyed the flight so much. Hoping once things improve here in the UK I will get a flight (many private pilots take passengers to help with costs) as want to fly over where we live. Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Will take my GoPro. 👍👏
Makes my day when you upload! And i am totally onboard the boat about getting out into the world, because you never know what you might come across. Thanks Stef for the awesome video!
Flying had become more of a chore for me as a pilot. Growing in my skills, and ratings, and debt. I take my first step towards earning my Multi today, flying a Piper Seminole.. I keep forgetting that while everyone is in a classroom for 8 hours to learn about something they have some sort of passion for, my classroom is in the middle of the world. An open, vast, place. Thanks for reminding me :)
Great video Stef, bet the ballon pilots will be just as excited watching them fly as you were watching from above! Love these orbits over cities from all you you tubers, maybe next time the rest of your family will join you, they need to realise what they are missing, Thank you
It’s so easy to not take advantage of what we can have. We can wake up in the afternoon and get far less time to do anything in the day, or we can seize the opportunity to make the most out of the day, like you’ve done here. And I’ll be honest, I’ve been quite lazy lately. Thanks for the video Stef, and the motivation to do more with what we have. Have a good night!
Awesome video Stef! I also have those 2 versions of myself and this video is also a great reminder for me to seek discomfort more often. Usually it’s worth it! Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait for summer on the northern hemisphere and some early morning flights… now that I’m motivated 😉
Another great video Stef. Once again making me miss Melbourne and the early Sunrises. It's nice experiencing everything secluded, although those balloonists were probably like, "Who is flying a private plane this bloody early?"
@@StefanDrury I lived in Dingley Village for a bit and saw hot air balloons a few times. They were huge and one had double decker basket. I always thought that they would be bothering all the planes and helicopters flying out of Moorabbin, especially on the weekends. It was cool the way you included the radio calls of ATC and the balloon pilot.....I always wondered how they kept clear of other air traffic. If you ever get the chance, you should book a balloon ride.
Loved the video! One flight that is just as awe inspiring as this one would be the same route at night with a full moon - most picturesque flights I have flown! PS - love the add in of your cat!
Beautiful. Yet I’d be paranoid flying in Aus due to anything with 8 legs just come sneaking out behind the cockpit. Awesome video Stef! Keep them coming….
I had to be at work (1 min drive from YMMB) at 5:00am to receive a shipping container of stock...happy to shout you a coffee and a pastry or two for brekkie if you do another sunise flight :)
Hey Stef, I can relate to getting up early and greeting a magical dawn. Though I don't have a PPL, I do have a car driver's license, and I cherish the mornings when I rolled out of bed bleary-eyed and then fired up one of my MX5's to head out of the big smoke. The countryside in those early hours is so peaceful and quiet, and with so little traffic around, it feels like you have the road to yourself, similar to how you felt no doubt doing the city circuit. We should all make the effort to do these things more often, as it's good for the soul. 👍
Thanks Laz, you're spot on there. Doesn't matter what it is that you get out of bed for, if you're being curious and feeding your sense of adventure it's always more rewarding that giving in to our lazier demons. Thanks for sharing.
Great video as always Stef, it’s great to have a bit more freedom and be able to get up and about when we want. Look forward to seeing more EYZ adventures, would be awesome to organise a fly away at some point during the year.
thanks for reminding us to "get out and do the THINGS!". this past 2 yrs has bought out the lazy me as well :/ ive resigned my self to pulling out the motos and riding them a heap more this coming year! 🍻🏍👍 ill be listening for you to pop up on the YMDG CTAF some day ;)
Hey stef been a couple of decades scenes i,ve done oh ok should not of thought about that 4 decades wow anyway the city is still beautiful great work mate
Found you on Flightradar24 the other day by chance after hearing a plane pass over Rod Laver Arena on TV. Was towards the end of one of Nadal’s matches - I think last Sunday?
Nice flight - love the external camera footage. Unfortunately the closest I will get to that is Microsoft Flight Simulator (the SR22 is my favourite light aircraft to fly on the sim).
Makes me excited for my upcoming trip to Melbourne at the end of March! Just a bit nervous about the high cases at the moment, I'm hoping that the peak of the big O will have long passed by then! Still trying to decide how long to stay, I have a week off work!
“Because you can” is the very best reason to fly. Dawn is magic, especially at the airport.

Thanks Brendan, yeah so worth the early start to see views like that.
To be fair the hot air balloons stayed below mach 1 this time.
@@Juhujalp lmao
No barrel rolls from the hot air balloons though, weak.

Nice creative film and 'touch down.'

Nice start to my day. Thanks Stefan!😊👍🏼
Good on ya Stef. Most of my summer departures are at zero dark thirty - cool air, smooth, great views and very little traffic.
I’d love to see more videos like this. Definitely the reason I love flying
Thanks Stef

Thanks for the video, inspiring. Nothing wrong with a straight in approach when the airfield is that quiet and the visibility is that good!
Best time to fly. Thanks for posting.
