One of Seether's best, with a great message, is "Rise Above this." It's a song that you can tell was extremely personal to the lead singer, and serves to remind us of the effect we have on everyone around us, especially our family.
There is palpable tragedy to 'Rise Above This.' Shaun's younger brother Eugene was horribly depressed, I think he also had drug and alcohol problems, and Shaun wrote that song for him as a way to say "You're gonna come out of this. You're gonna be okay." A few weeks after the song was written, Eugene succumbed to his depression and took his own life.
I highly recommend the song they did with Amy Lee called Broken. I have a voice acting background and use it as a vocal warm up. The vocal training itself for me was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but artists like them or Chino Moreno, Chester Bennington are a great impulse to not give up. You almost saw me as Leon in those new RE games :)
The lead singer from Seether dated Amy Lee (Evanescence). Amy wrote the song “Call Me When You’re Sober “ about his struggles with drinking/addiction. He wrote a song called “Fine Again “ about those same struggles. It’s a great song to check out. Other great songs are Rise Above It (a song about his brother’s passing), Burrito, Tongue and Broken (featuring Amy Lee)
Seether is a South African band that started in the late 90s! Seether is my favorite band from the 2000's and I think they're ridiculously underappreciated. Their Disclaimer and Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces albums are just SPECIAL. Breakdown, Walk Away From the Sun, Fine Again and Broken are a few songs to check out to get a feel of what they were at their peak!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dive into Seether. Their music is not only bangin but the lyrics will cut to your soul. "Driven Under", "Words as Weapons", "Remedy", "Written in Stone" and so on.
This is one of those rare covers that makes the song completely their own, but stays true to the original at the same time. Those are always the best covers. MUST react to Broken. It’s a duet with Amy Lee of Evanescence. So good.
Die Hard Seether fan here! Love The Truth, Let You Down, What Would You Do, Pride, 69 Tea. Seether is frickin awesome. They're still releasing new music and I'm going to see them in concert in April
YES!!! FINALLY! Seether is at the top of my list as 1 of my absolute favorites. They have so many good songs. Breakdown, Fine Again, Country Song, Words As Weapons, Remedy, Fake It, Save Today, Driven Under, The Gift, Let You Down...I really hope you guys go down this rabbit hole! Their music has really helped me thru some rough times..❤
Did you know this band is from Africa. This version of this song is amazing. The song Broken by Seether and Amy Lee is another good song. Amy was dating the singer of the band at the time. She made a song Call Me When you’re Sober. That is a famous song by Evanescence. Amy was dating him at the time. Evanescence is a band you have to check out
This song is on my happy list, inspiring. Then I found out the horrible sad story behind it. 😢 Totally new meaning now. Poor Shaun. How do you ever get past it.
Shaun wrote the song before his brother committed suicide. Yes, the song was written for his bro who went through depression. His brother committed suicide while Shaun was performing a show.
It was actually written *before* Eugene took his own life. Shaun meant to write it as a way to try to cheer his brother up. In a way, that makes it even worse.
Seether...one of the biggest alternative bands to come out of the 90s/early 2000s. They are still together and touring. I worked in radio about 20 years and we had the only alternative station in the area. When alternative bands were coming into town, they would reach out to us, and so I was lucky enough to see many of them perform. I would take my son and when Seether was here, they let him hang out with them before they took the stage and made sure Aaron was right up front. They have many great songs...probably one of their biggest hits was Remedy. Check it out!
I knew Shaun and Dale from "The Doors days" back in Johannesburg before they moved "State Side" and can most definitely see them doing this...great guys...
The lead singer is Shaun Morgan and he used to date Amy Lee from Evanescence. It has been said that the song "Call Me When You're Sober" was written about Shaun after the two of them broke up, and he in turn wrote the song "Fake It" about her. The break up wasn't exactly congenial. When they were still together they did a duet called "Broken", which I would suggest. The first song of Seether's I ever heard, and still my favorite, is "Remedy".
Henry Ate, Springbok Nude Girls (and Arno Carstens solo stuff), Just Jinger, Qkumba Zoo, Squeal, Ammersham, Cutting Jade...so so so many great South African bands that should have received much more attention than they did or do...
Seether is underrated. South African band I think…mostly known in the 2000’s. TONIGHT is my personal favorite from them. Their collaboration with Amy Lee called BROKEN is very good too.
As a South African I take tremendous pride in Seether hailing from my home country. Saw them a few times before they relocated to the US and changed their name (They were previously known as Saron Gas). "Fine again" is a great track from their back catalogue. Might I suggest another South African band for you to check out? Just Jinger is a great band that has been around for many years. If you're going to check out their music, I suggest "Leaving Shallow Waters", "What he means" and their cover of Rodriques' song Sugar Man. (Check out the story of Rodriques btw - his music really spoke to people in South Africa during the Apartheid years. He is HUGE in South Africa.)
Fantastic band, love ,love ,love your reactions, especially you Amber, I love the way you immerse yourself in the music with such a poignant and beautiful interpretation sometimes wrapped in tears. J I'm grateful & so thankful you brought your beautiful bride along for the journey. Working as a team you two make me and thousands in the Rob Squad Family smile, cry, & laugh daily. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you. May 2024 be your finest year yet.
Back in the early 2010s I was in a band that covered this version of this song and it was always a HUGE crowd pleaser. I love this version and Seether always delivers. I’ve been watching you guys for a good while now and I love your reactions. As for some recommendations for this Band, you can’t go wrong with The Gift, it’s a beautiful song. Another would be off their first album, first released song actually, Fine Again. They have so many bangers you can almost close your eyes and pick. Oh, and from a Georgia Dawg, welcome to the SEC!
Seether is one of the best live bands out there! Listen to anything off the One Cold Night album, its all acoustic versions of there songs and a few covers too, FANTASTIC band!
Seether has a live unplugged album called, One Cold Night, where they do a great cover of the Pear Jam song "Immortality". They have a lot of great songs, one of my favorites is "Fine Again".
This might not get recommended enough but I’m telling you, any song off of their live album is absolutely beautiful. It’s regarded as one of the best live albums ever by the people who are aware of it! My favs are Diseased- heavy/screaming The Gift- emotional/beautiful Fine Again- deep song about sobriety The whole album is *dripping* with pure emotion
@@cynthiamastin7119 Seether has so many good songs, it's hard to recommend what songs these guys should check out! lol But I still have a soft spot for their first album 'Disclaimer' - minus the Saron Gas 'Fragile' album.
Seether is awesome i took my daughter to her first concert to see them it was a great show. Favorite seether song for me is the acoustic version of "against the wall"
South African band that started out as Saron Gas but changed their name to Seether when they went to America. This takes me back to my high school days in the late 90's to early 2000's. Fine again, Broken and Fake it are also some great songs to check out by Seether. Fine again is my favorite as it was the first song I heard from them when they were still only known in South Africa.
i heard or read an interview with Shaun Morgan, the lead singer, that this song was released in defiance to their label, who asked for a "love" song around Valentine's Day. The band said they don't do love songs, obviously. The song was already on the album, so this was the response. Lol Fine Again, Remedy, Driven Under, Walk Away From The Sun, Nobody Praying For Me and Save Today. I looked at some comments, and really, any song you choose, is great. Get ready for the rabbit hole. ✌💙
It's amazing how well this song translates to a hard rock song. Just goes to show what I've said many times - a great song is a great song, no matter the genre. And of course, "guilty feet have got no rhythm" remains one of the greatest lyrics ever. RIP George, and props to Seether for showing him the respect he deserves. I'm certain George had a smile on his face when he heard this.
Seethers a great band, lots of very good songs. My wife LOVES them, she has a Seether tattoo on her arm. Went to see them live, got a vip pass, got to talk with them, and photos, really great and down to earth guys. Im from NZ and them being from SA we had a lot of rugby banter, as NZ and SA are huge rivals :D

Seether is one of my favorite current bands, although they were bigger in the early 2000's than they are now. I am sure other commentors will recommend "Broken" with Amy Lee from Evanescence, and it's good...but in my opinion, it's kind of softer and less representative of their typical sound. Songs that are more representative of their sound include "Fake It," "Remedy," "Country Song," "Words as Weapons," "Same Damn Life," and my personal favorite song, "Fine Again." Songs by them that were not as big of hits, but still rock, are "Nobody Praying for Me," "Betray and Degrade," "Let You Down," and their cover of "Black Honey" by Thrice.
Seether is a South African band and the lead singer is Shaun Morgan. They've been around since the early 2000's and are still touring and recording. I highly recommend that you go down their rabbit hole, you won't regret it!
George's (which I loved) was more of an inner monolog, lamenting in the dark being sad. Seethe's is more of a statement "I'm pissed at myself for screwing thus up", full of pure, raw emotion.
I’m so happy you finally reacted to Seether!!! Love their song Broken with Amy Lee, as well as Against the Wall (acoustic version) Tonight, and The Gift are just a few of my favorites by them.
“Fake It” has been a big hit in the US for Seether & would be a great place to start. FYI… A County singer-songwriter named Buck Owens, who pioneered the “Bakersfield Sound”, had a Hit with his Song “Act Naturally”, which was covered by Ringo Starr, and then re-recorded as a Duet between the two of them. 3 somewhat different versions of the same song by 2 Hall of Fame Artists. 😊
Fine again, broken, rise above this, & the truth are ALL SEETHER SONGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE & I'm sure both Amber & Rob would smile ear to ear after hearing any of those songs
Amy Lee from Evanescence dated the lead singer of Seether way back when Evanescence was taking off as a new band in 2003. Shaun Morgan and she had issues due to his drinking and drug use. He checked into rehab in July 2006, and Amy Lee wrote the song "Call Me When You're Sober" about her relationship with him. But Seether is a really good band in their own right and you should check out their music.
Liking this version was not on my BINGO card!! It's my first time listening to it and it is different and it is good!! Thanks for doing this reaction!!
Seether!! 🔥🤘😎 They are from South Africa, formed in '99 and still active touring and new music. "Drivin Under", "Save Today" "Truth", "Fine Again", are all great song from Seether.
Funny thing about this song. They didn't want to do it. Back before Spotify, Apple Music etc., there was a service called Rhapsody. They were contracted by their label to do a song for a Valentines Day compilation for Rhapsody. They kept putting it off until finally they had to record something. They ended up doing this just to get their label off their back.
This is one of the covers that I always point to as being different then the original and also better in many ways! The pain comes through so much better in this one then it did in the original!
So glad you listened to Seether! You should definitely listen to Broken with Amy Lee next. Shaun's beautiful gritty voice with Amy's strong tone is fantastic!
George Michael was my first concert in 4th grade. My older sister took me because I was obsessed. We were in the 7th row and I loved every second. This version is good, but George Michael, just ❤❤❤
very, VERY Underrated Band. As others have mentioned "Rise Above This" and "Broken" and "Fake It" as the known singles, along with the one that got me hooked, "Remedy" - a very "Mainstream-Nirvana-esk" sound to that one. But others I REALLY enjoy by them include "Fine Again" (Yep, MADDEN 2003 got me!), "Six Gun Quota", "FMLYHM", and "No Jesus Christ" - one of the BEST Openings, and I recall when I saw them in concert (ages ago) they had an awesome opening using this song, lead singer out there solo, curtain down behind him with a video of what looked like red rain coming down, until the DROP....got the great show started off right.
Seether is a south african rock band formed in the late 90s/ early 00s. Theyre still going strong with new music and tours. They have a massive catalog to list all here but my personal favorites are; "Fine again" "Rise above this" "The gift" "Nobody praying for me" "Save today" "Truth" "Love her" And so many more. Rise above this was actually written in response to Shaun's (the lead singer) brother commiting suicide
@@perrdawg-py8my1cl7l I think they went on a small hiatus while he got treatment, but it wasn't a permanent thing. Amy Lee and Shaun broke up due to Shaun's substance abuse. Which led to the evanescence song "call me when you're sober". But yeah. They've had like 2 or 3 full albums in the last 5 years. And just released an acoustic collection that's really well done. You can find it on their UA-cam channel
Seether is one of my favorite bands and I think they are very underrated. Loved your reaction and watching you discover this amazing group. I recommend Country Song by them or their cover of Nirvana Something in the Way.

I second Broken. You guys have reacted to Amy Lee (Evanescence) "Bring Me To Life".
Her collaboration with Seether is a must listen!!!
100 % AGREE

Seether named themselves after the song Seether by Veruca Salt, the 90’s alt rock band!
Really?!?!? Love that song by Veruca Salt.
Can't fight the Seether.....😂❤
Original name Saron Gas but the label wanted them to change their name to something else

The whole Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces album is amazing!! They released an album under the name Saron Gas which is fire!!!!!!!
Saron Has was their name way back in South Africa. I thought they broke up,but then they reappeared as Seether across the big blue sea
I LOVE this song by Seether, I had no idea it was a cover.
Love The Gift!! By Seether
And they did a fantastic cover of this song!!!!!

Seether is fire!!! Check out all there hits!!!!
The Gift by Seether is amazing!!!
Right!! This song uncovers the most auth feel of Shawn and is really close to his and our heart..
Adding to the list of recommendations to check out Broken with Seether and Amy Lee. A truly beautiful song between the two of them
Amy Lee from Evanescence dated the lead singer of Seether way back when Evanescence was taking off as a new band in 2003.
I've been a fan of this cover for quite some time. Glad y'all listed to it!!!
Seether!! 🔥🤘😎
They are from South Africa, formed in '99 and still active touring and new music.
"Drivin Under", "Save Today" "Truth", "Fine Again", are all great song from Seether.
Breakdown is great also.
Originally from South Africa but John and Corey are from the US. :)
Seether - Immortality [live acoustic]
(Pearl Jam cover)
I have never heard this and have several seether songs on my iPod. Thanks for this.
Seether has so many good songs! Please do more. Hope you enjoy them!
Rise Above This
Pass Slowly
Tonight
are some of my other favorite Seether songs.
Vanilla Fudge cover of The Supremes, "Keep me hanging on". On the Ed Sullivan Show.
Great choice!
The best remake I have heard of this song! Awesome!! They rocked it out!
My favorite cover of all time. Just perfect how Seether made it their own
The drummer is an Okie. He's also plays with the Nixons
Love George Michael but Seether is awesome!! ❤️❤️RIP George!
Country Song, Fake It, and so many other great Seether tunes to explore. Jump in that rabbit hole guys
I'm so glad they kept the same pace with the lyrics.
This version is good, but George Michael, just ❤❤❤
My favorite Seether song is Words as Weapons. Great lyrics.
very, VERY Underrated Band.
Seether is a south african rock band formed in the late 90s/ early 00s. Theyre still going strong with new music and tours. They have a massive catalog to list all here but my personal favorites are;
"Fine again"
"Rise above this"
"The gift"
"Nobody praying for me"
"Save today"
"Truth"
"Love her"
And so many more. Rise above this was actually written in response to Shaun's (the lead singer) brother commiting suicide
Thought they broke up because of Shaun's substance abuse
Fun fact,Seether’s drummer John Humphrey is from Oklahoma and also is the drummer for the Nixons.
You know a brilliant song when it can be played in a dozen ways, tempos and instrumentation and it remains great. I miss George.
Disturbed does an amazing rendition of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence. It will give you chills.
Rise Above This is a pretty powerful song by Seether, especially with the official music video.
First time I have heard this rendition, love it !
