I'm planning on getting a bachelors this year with an online degree and possibly enlisting or commissioning. Could you guys do a video on the differences between the two routes? And Sal, would you say your time as an officer was as fun and worth while as your time as an enlisted Marine?
Hey Bannaxe, did you watch Brian Downer in episode 22? This will answer a lot of these questions. He went enlisted first, then officer and offers some great advice. ua-cam.com/video/au5SiChCg1U/v-deo.html
Bannaxe, it’s good to have experience as an enlisted Marine, but not necessary. If you want to be the person who does the work, enlisted is the way to go. If you are more interested in planning, supervision of tasks, and being in charge of operations, go directly to OCS. I think my enlisted time gave me a lot of perspective, but it also took time away from career development as an officer. I would have gotten much farther in the ranks if I had commissioned earlier. There is an expiration date on a career and your physical health plays a big role. The Corps is very hard on your body.
@@unclesugarsmagiccircus9379 I plan on going into MARSOC and from what I've read and researched, it seems the enlisted Marines have a higher chance of getting in. Would you say this is accurate?
I was in PISC around the same time as Sal, May-Aug 1985. Plt 1056, 1056 Series, A Co, 1st Bn. I went on to the Army, and I am still serving. 36...I miss the Uncle Sam Misguided Children. Great show. Please keep it going. Semper Fidelis!
Sal I was in during your time, 1988-1995 got out a Sgt. With SOTG 2 MEF. Semper Fi gents!
Wow, Keith and I are more similar than I ever thought! S/F!
You mean your sardonic wit? Or your fresh faced good looks?
@@unclesugarsmagiccircus9379 Ha! Both! No it was funny listening to you talk about when you joined the Corps, very similar family. S/F!

@@unclesugarsmagiccircus9379 yes however I would like to know what your opinion is on the matter of enlisting or commissioning right out of school
