That is extraordinary well played! I especially liked how you dragged the F-82 out on the edge. Generally to drag opponents into bad positions is a very underestimated move for a lot of casual players like myself. Really, what was he thinking about? :-) One vs one against La-9 at low altitude with no energy advantage?? Probably he is used to players going for the head on:-) Same goes for AD-pilots, they way you sort out this "problem" with no risk taken whatsoever is just superb. If more players watched this channel War Thunder RB Air would be even more exciting, it would bring more evenly contested and much longer battles, the way I like it.
I just bought the La-11 since it's on sale and seems to do most of what the La-9 does but at 5.3. That being said, so far I'm not sure what the La-11 can do that my 4.7 La-7 can't...

i absolutely love this plane, it has a very good climb, awesome guns and a very good turn rate, also the fact that it can faces jets make it even better on my opinion, i was always hoping to face jets, they're so easy to take down
I have 4 guns blund to one key and 2 to trigger. If i run out or run low ill try to make myself some space to do a belt switch in settings. That said, in and emergency ypu can still use your second belt (or fire all 4)
One trick to conserve ammo in LA9 is to shoot with MG button first. U´ll fire 2 cannons only! After the first 2 cannons get empty u can fire the cannon button and use the other 2 left! Nice video!

Adam514 two days a go i got kill with Do 335 and i was ponting my nose like 20 degre from target yesterday i was kill by bullets thet went like 10 m from me. Not to mentin self exploding Su-6 that was LOL I was in Su-6 :+(
I've gotten several nasty surprises from AD4s. These days I'm probably overly cautious of them. They seem to be able to point their noses up at surprisingly low speeds, even though I imagine their wing loading is highish.
The fact that they are naval aircraft and that they need to take off from carriers with ordnance requires a relatively low wing loading without ordnance, and the wing design allows higher lift coefficient in order to take off and land safer (at lower speeds). That's why they can pull relatively hard, but lose more speed by doing it.
There is a 1 trick that helps with ammo capacity in La-9 you can bind two buttons for 2 of your guns separately its very useful in sim cause most of the time you shot from very close range and put only a few bullets and it seems to be more efficient as you only shoot ammo from two of your guns and then you have another 2 instead of losing ammo from 4 guns at the same time
Hey adam, quick tip! Because of the high damage output of these guns, you really can do plenty damage with only 1 or 2. Interestingly enough, like on the F2 sabre, 2 banks of guns are bound to MG and cannons, respectively. You can fire only one bank by using the fire MG or fire cannon button!
AD2s and AD4s are actually no joke. They're as fast as an F4U-1a at low alts and they can they can turn really well. But they can't keep up those turns for long. Edit: And you say exactly that in the video, lol. Nice job.
In fact they are very comparable in performance to the F4U-4B below 10,000ft. The 4B is pretty much better in every way but it is significantly closer than most might realize. The glaring differences are roll rate and acceleration. That is pretty good performance from an aircraft nearly twice as heavy with only 400 more HP available. Seeing as how I can get Helldivers to work rather well as fighters I wonder what I could do with those... Nah. I'll pass. For now.
AD-4 to 3000m 3 minutes flat. U-4B: 2:36. Granted that is both clean and getting the AD to that condition is pretty much an impossibility as I don't think it can be taken out with a clean set up. Understand I am not trying to say that the AD-4 is nearly as good in performance. Its not. A 24 second difference is not insignificant at all however its a lot closer than I think most would think and that is what my point was. Most attackers take nearly double the time to 10,00ft/3,000m than relative fighters. I apologize that this wasn't clear before.
Richard Armour The AD-2 and F4U-1a have almost the same sea level top speeds, while the -4B is some 30mph faster, which is why I think it’s more comparable to the first Corsair variants.

Adam514 Yeah it popped up in my recommended a couple videos after this one. Seems like it's more of a mid ground fighter than a dedicated turn fighter like the A6Ms. The nose mounted cannons are nice too
It's actually postwar. August 1946; a full year after the war ended. By performance, it might not be worthy of seeing jets, but by introduction it's one of the latest prop fighters to enter service in the game.

I get the feeling in game the La-9 is for people who like the La-7 but struggle with Soviet 20mm cannons. Kind of like the Yak-9U vs the Yak-9P - you trade flight performance for easier kills in deflection shots.
The extra firepower really helps with getting kills in hit & run attacks. Less time aiming is more time keeping energy up and watching out for enemy planes.
I got terror of the sky once in the AD2, and that was after dropping stones and firing off the yeetwaffen and ground targets. We lost because no one went after a space climbing B-17 and it flew above my max altitude (mixed games can be weird)
@@AdamTheEnginerd they also seem to be surprisingly floaty in the vertical (when not carrying 5000lbs of explody things) which is a fun surprise for those Fw-190 A-8 pilots who decide to throw away their airspawn to cheese a lawnmower
thats why i like 20mm+ caliber guns when BnZing its ideal if you take out your oponnent on the 1st run specially if he can be faster than you so if you take him out on the 1st run you dont have to worry bout it too much (but still always have a getaway plan)
That last ad4 player did pretty good, all things considered. Nice trigger discipline! Do you always think things like "now is time for a reversal" or "i'll bait him into the vertical"? I mostly don't, just do whatever maneuver feels right at the moment, without thinking "oh, now the correct thing is to do a flat scissors" Just curious about more efficient or mathematical thought process
Yeah no complaints there. Thanks! Yeah I used to, know it's more automatic because I have a lot of experience, but the thinking that got me doing the automatic maneuver is what I write in the video. In new planes and new situations I think a lot the first few games, then it becomes automatic.
Thanks! Hmm I don't really have a favorite nation, it's more the type of aircraft that I like. I like fast aircraft which can still dogfight their way out of a pinch if needed (Tempest Mk V, P51D30, Ta152H, F4Us).

I'd like to, but it's a big time investment considering I'm still in university and I have other projects going on at the same time. For complete games, it's slow paced enough that text is fine, and I don't have enough to talk about for 10 minutes. When voice is necessary (reversal video for example), I'll do it.

Thanks mate! Never too late! That goes for any aircraft that is more maneuverable than you. If they can dive and catch you, you made the mistake of getting too close. You can reverse them with experience and the right aircraft though.
Lol you are right about them AD 4s. I once had a spectacularly memorable fight with one in a A7M1. Took me completely by surprise. He got me low and slow but I was super confident about easily taking him down. Wasn’t to be. He put up one hell of a fight. He ended up being my 5th kill in my only ace match with the A7M1. But he took up so much time that the last Spitfire in the enemy team had the time to reach us and finish me off when I had absolutely no energy left. So it’s definitely a threat in the right hands.
Adam514 well I’m not a particularly great pilot myself but I’d like to think he was exceptionally skilled ;) funnily enough no other AD 4 ever gave me anywhere nearly as much trouble again. Boss I really suck with Russian aircraft. I have their planes unlocked till the La 7 but I did that with a Stalinbolt. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the hang of this nation? Any low tier trainer plane I should fly? Any tricks I should know?
From time to time you find a good pilot in an attacker, but it's very rare. I'd recommend the La7, is that low tier enough for you? The trick is to push the enemy team down/lure them down and use your superior maneuverability and climb at low altitude to defeat individual enemy planes. Russian planes are quite fast at low altitude as well, you can run from UK aircraft.
Finally a video about my favorite High Br prop fighter!... time for a long comment again :D In contrast to you i immediately liked this plane even when completely stock. Somehow i became more accurate in this plane, than in any other plane i’ve ever player. Low velocity of those NS-23 seems to FI-T :D me very well. Damage output was very good for me even before 1.79 when i played almost all of my 120 battles (i know that 23mm were considered very weak before patch). Now they are my favourite. Also contrary to you i find this plane to be BETTER than any Prop fighters except high Br spitfires and Ki-84’s. I don’t have any experience In UK and US planes at high Br except F4U-4B which i spaded, so my opinion isn’t of the highest quality.......but from my experience in La-9 i conclude that it’s WAY better in dogfight of any sort, than F4U-4B, Tempest MK V(risky statement),P47-M(now without airspawn), P-51H, and all German top Br fighters (even Ta 152-H with flaps). It’s comparable to Bearcat’s but overall a bit better, similiar with J7W1 and comparable/worse than Griffon spitfires and worse than Ki 84’s. I also hadn’t many situations when i couldn’t catch up to someone running away from me, where higher top speed of for example Tempest Mk V would make any difference ( often when i can’t catch to someone, distance and altitude difference is so high that having any other prop fighter wouldn’t help). Higher top speed could help when trying to catch a jet, but for some reason i don’t have big problems with jets. Enemies rarely use their top speed advantage. For me the most important characteristic of a fighter is to be able to dogfight (rolling scissors, stall fighting, reversals, defensive flying to cause overshoot, turning in vertical, horizontal, and all those fancy sounding maneuvers) so i don’t see why this plane is below average when compared to 5.7 fighter i if can do it better than most o them. I mean: great acceleration great climb rate to about 4k, higher is average to bad. amazing turning ER (

Me: I think all the aircraft you listed here have very comparable turn and roll, La9 wouldn't have more than a slight advantage if any over these. However, all these aircraft are much faster than the La9 (Ta152H prob needs 3km alt), and some have better armament/ammo. I'd only say great climb until 2.5km, then it quickly drops to average over that altitude. It is indeed better than most aircraft at pulling negative Gs. Upper nose mounted cannons is nice. That's some pretty bad linear ER, which is very important to dive and catch jets since it fights them often. "I like F4U-4B a lot mainly thanks to amazing flaps, speed and great cannons with high velocity, a lot of ammo and destructive power but i find this plane overall worse than La 9." Me: Only thing the La9 has over the F4U-4B is maneuvering ER though. "It's shocking to me that this plane is so good since it has exactly the same engine as La 5FN and La 7. For some reason La 9 accelerates on a runway much faster than La 7 though. Do you know why?" Me: Might be the different propeller used on the La9 which allows more efficient use of the engine power at lower speed. All the fighters you mentioned are roughly equal to the La9 at low altitude, but starting at medium altitudes (3km), La9 is outperformed by a lot in climb and speed. That's why La9 doesn't deserve 6.0 BR compared to the aircraft you listed, it deserves 5.7.

La 9 climbs noticeably better, accelerates similarly, but compresses a bit less and has 150 kph higher rip speed (890 kph), so it's much faster. La 9 turns worse than la-7 but it can deploy takeoff flaps at speed in which la 7 can use only combat, making their turn similar. I know, i just contradicted what you said but that are results of me flying both of them a lot, and small testing in test flight ...I hope it's not confirmation bias. You should compare them after you get through "terrible, horrible,not good,very bad, to long" spading process of La-9. Upgrades change a lot. Also since La 9 is only about 150 kg heavier IRL, has better propeller, and cleaner air frame with better wings it should perform as i written. again confirmation bias maybe "That's some pretty bad linear ER, which is very important to dive and catch jets since it fights them often." Me: For some reason i don't have problem catching jets despite bad linear ER. Usually i get to speed that is enough to catch them if i have big alt advantage. "I think all the aircraft you listed here have very comparable turn and roll, La9 wouldn't have more than a slight advantage if any over these." I can't agree with turn time part because F4U-4B turns worse than La-9 (but not much) so Tempest Mk V turns worse too. P-47M and P-51H turns worse. Ta 152 H in those rare vs germany matches were similar/better but their yawing during maneuvers due to bad rudder helped a lot. I can't recall any situation when any of those aircraft outmaneuvered me in La-9, in 1vs1 situations. Only planes i don't feel confident against are Spitfires(they also climb a lot and like to keep their alt), Ki 84's and A7M2. Me: I agree with poor "medium/high" to high alt performance, but it's not that much noticeable at 3k-4k Now enemies often either don't climb that much, or dive whenever they see enemy below them, so it's rare to fight high and suffer from bad high alt performance. I agree that Br should be lowered to 5.7. Unfortunately change in Br wouldn't really change situation against props because most of the battles are in 5.3-6.3 or 5.0-6.0 Br 4.7-5.7 is very rare. Also this change would only make la-9 not fight jets, and those battles are at least for me very fun.(big satisfaction of destroying a Me 262) I hate R2Y2 tho. I almost unlocked canon bearcat, i'll see how it compares to La-9. I should stop now
La9 isn't cleaner than the La7, since the La7 is faster at sea level than the La9 (616km/h vs 607km/h) which should also make it climb better than the La9 since the La9 is a bit heavier (but climb is essentially the same). Higher rip speed is indeed a decent bonus to the La9. I do agree that all those aircraft turn worse, but barely worse. And at high prop BRs you'd need 30s of turning to get a shot on those planes with your better turn. No need to stop ;).

Sure I've made a lot of testing between La-7 La 9 and F4U-4B today, and decided that instead posting it as aa next enormous comment i could post in on War Thunder forum where it will be easier to read, and accessible to more people. Do you agree to that? Can i mention in this future post that those tests are a result of a discussion with you, and that some of my testing methods are taken from your channel (like thrust/weight ratio)? If yes i'll finish it tomorrow and i'll send you a link. Right now La-9 seems significantly better in various aspects than La-7 so be worried :D
The la9 is one of my favorite 5.7 aircraft the stock grind is reasonable also the ns23 cannons hit very hard I probably like them more than the German 20mm i never had sparks off of the ns23 also I think the shavak 20mms and the hispano cannons should get buffed I just nearly spaded my la9 I think it performs slightly better than the la7 only thing I need to get for my la 9 is the cover and engine injection and I'm thinking on getting the i225 I need to grind out the Russian tech tree including the rest of the mig and yak line also I want the su7b next patch so I'm going to talisman the la9 and the i225
hey adam, i sawa lor of people doing really well with the do335 since last patch, the cannon buff and new ''airspawn enviroment'' must have been important factors. do you think its a good fighter? its superfast and it ha a really good roll
I don't think it's good because even though it has a good top speed, its acceleration is bad and getting there takes ages. Also, it has similar turn to the Ta152C but can't really use flaps to help I think.
adam why do you use convergence on a plane with nose mounted weapons? Im asking cause I use convergence at 800m even on planes like the Ta152 C3 or the Dora's.
I always use 400m because I think the convergence value changes where your reticle is, so you're better off keeping a constant value for all aircraft since at short range (under 300m), aiming gets complicated (you need to have your reticle over the enemy aircraft to hit due to the camera angle).
Yeah I noticed that you had some trouble when you had to shoot at closer range. Well i cant say I have noticed a difference in the aiming reticle in regards to the convergence. Maybe I am used to have different convergence for different planes, based on where the armament is placed. I go for 500m on the 50cals that are wing mounted, 600m for cannons like the ones the Italians or the British have on their wings and 800 for anything with nose mounted guns. I guess its a matter of habit.
Honestly, as an AB player watching this: I guess I'll continue to avoid playing RB, at least for a couple of years or so... Compared to the skills shown here, the likelihood to embarrass myself is a clear 100%. Hands down some of the best aiming and trigger discipline I have ever seen. O7
Hahaha thanks! But hey, I missed a couple of times here! But seriously, I highly recommend playing RB. You get a much better feeling of how aircraft behave, no lead marker so there's more thought to defensive flying, and more teamwork (usually). Don't let what pilots like me show discourage you, it's less than 1% of RB players that can do this. I started off as a noob like everyone else in RB, but it didn't take long for me to become more useful than the average player on my team. Just don't start off in tier 3-4 which are way less forgiving in terms of aircraft and pilot skills in general.
I'm really glad, people are watching Adam's vids even 3 years after release. And me and RB: It's kind of sad story, I'm still a noob with not nearly enough time to spend in this game -- and it's getting worse. So no, not really. But since I come back to WT now and then and WT is going to be a thing for at least the next 120 years, I haven't abandoned all hope. And hey, I'm gonna retire from my job in just 30 years or so -- and I guess this will be an excellent opportunity to finally master this game mode.
@@a_lauscha5604 honestly i think you should keep trying, im still not super good, and the level in rb is higher than in ab, but at rank 1-2 with monoplanes the skill level of other players is lower and u can get some early experience before venturing into higher levels. Also american planes are hard to master so i'd start with good climbing planes if u want to learn to energy fight
I just finished researching the la7b but I can’t afford it (yak9u has too high repair cost), and I’m currently researching the la9. You make it seem very good but I’m not sure if I should keep researching it or if I should get the other yaks. What do you think?
Ehh best I got in the 162 is 2 kills. I don't have any idea how you can do more than support your team when there are 7.0s in the match. I suppose in a 5.7-6.7 match it'd be quite good, but it's exceedingly rare.
It's called the "local host". How to access the "local host": You need to be running War Thunder or it won't work! Option 1: on the same computer that is running WT: -Type localhost:8111/ in the address bar and press enter and voila. Option 2 (which also works on the computer that runs WT): -Type Your_IP_Address:8111/ where you replace "Your_IP_Address" by your IP Address (192.168.X.XXX) in the address bar and press enter and voila, you can look at the characteristics on another device while flying.
I do that when I edit the video. I record the gameplay on my PC and the local host on my laptop next to me, and paste the local host footage over the gameplay. There is a way to get it on the same screen, you'd have to play WT in windowed mode and try some things out. I've never done it.
I feel that you are maybe shooting a bit too fast with the la-9. It's an aircraft where you shouldn't take chances, only fire when you can guarantee a hit and never hold fire unless someone is flying across you screen. Tap tap tap is the key.
That's what I do, and that's how I managed to get 6 kills with 300 rounds. I took a chance on the F82 when it went vertical and I got a hitmarker, just no damage.
I know this is unrelated to the video, but can someone tell me which belt I should use for the 20mm shvak? I keep getting mixed answers. Some say Tracers, some say Armored Targets.
Another amazing video, as always. I started playing war thunder in my weeaboo phase, so I picked the japanese before even looking at the planes in higher BRs. I got stuck at 4.7, so I have over a thousand hours on the A6M5 Otsu XD I'm to lazy to do any other trees, so that's basically my entire war thunder experience.

IMO its the best looking Spitfire/Seafire, in a downtier it's actually quite nice (Spaded), and it also can dive up to 900kmh TAS, which is higher than Bf-109 I think. So it's not all that bad, even it an uptier the high dive speed can catch jets due to its 6.0 BR.
True airspeed (TAS) is the speed you move through the air, it's equal to your ground speed when there's no wind. Indicated airspeed (IAS) is the speed your aircraft "feels". Since one component in lift and drag is air density, and air density lowers as altitude increases, you need a higher TAS at higher altitude for your aircraft to be feeling the same lift in drag. Essentially, your aircraft will handle the same at the same IAS, no matter the altitude. You will pull as many Gs at 300km/h IAS whether you're at 0km or 6km altitude. TAS=IAS at sea level, but TAS>IAS at any altitude above sea level. You should use IAS, it's easier to use.
For me ammo isn't a problem, proboably because I main the Soviets so im used to low ammo count. I get 4 kills on average per game and still have half the ammo left. Its super satisfying one tapping planes from a kilometer away in it aswell.

Adam514 1.0 US float plane armed with one 7.62 for offensive and one for defensive. They took it out like a year ago because it was waay too OP (was a really crappy plane...) so you might not even have it. It suffered the same fate of the PO-2 except they don’t even do any events that allow you to get it again.

I have 4 guns blund to one key and 2 to trigger. If i run out or run low ill try to make myself some space to do a belt switch in settings. That said, in and emergency ypu can still use your second belt (or fire all 4)
One trick to conserve ammo in LA9 is to shoot with MG button first. U´ll fire 2 cannons only! After the first 2 cannons get empty u can fire the cannon button and use the other 2 left! Nice video!

I've gotten several nasty surprises from AD4s. These days I'm probably overly cautious of them. They seem to be able to point their noses up at surprisingly low speeds, even though I imagine their wing loading is highish.
The fact that they are naval aircraft and that they need to take off from carriers with ordnance requires a relatively low wing loading without ordnance, and the wing design allows higher lift coefficient in order to take off and land safer (at lower speeds). That's why they can pull relatively hard, but lose more speed by doing it.

There is a 1 trick that helps with ammo capacity in La-9 you can bind two buttons for 2 of your guns separately its very useful in sim cause most of the time you shot from very close range and put only a few bullets and it seems to be more efficient as you only shoot ammo from two of your guns and then you have another 2 instead of losing ammo from 4 guns at the same time

Hey adam, quick tip! Because of the high damage output of these guns, you really can do plenty damage with only 1 or 2. Interestingly enough, like on the F2 sabre, 2 banks of guns are bound to MG and cannons, respectively. You can fire only one bank by using the fire MG or fire cannon button!

AD2s and AD4s are actually no joke. They're as fast as an F4U-1a at low alts and they can they can turn really well. But they can't keep up those turns for long.

In fact they are very comparable in performance to the F4U-4B below 10,000ft. The 4B is pretty much better in every way but it is significantly closer than most might realize. The glaring differences are roll rate and acceleration. That is pretty good performance from an aircraft nearly twice as heavy with only 400 more HP available. Seeing as how I can get Helldivers to work rather well as fighters I wonder what I could do with those... Nah. I'll pass. For now.

I'd say they're comparable to the F4U-1a. The -4B blows the AD-2/AD-4 out of the water in every category (except maybe turn radius).
AD-4 to 3000m 3 minutes flat. U-4B: 2:36. Granted that is both clean and getting the AD to that condition is pretty much an impossibility as I don't think it can be taken out with a clean set up. Understand I am not trying to say that the AD-4 is nearly as good in performance. Its not. A 24 second difference is not insignificant at all however its a lot closer than I think most would think and that is what my point was. Most attackers take nearly double the time to 10,00ft/3,000m than relative fighters. I apologize that this wasn't clear before.

The AD-2 and F4U-1a have almost the same sea level top speeds, while the -4B is some 30mph faster, which is why I think it’s more comparable to the first Corsair variants.

Adam514 Yeah it popped up in my recommended a couple videos after this one. Seems like it's more of a mid ground fighter than a dedicated turn fighter like the A6Ms. The nose mounted cannons are nice too

It's actually postwar. August 1946; a full year after the war ended. By performance, it might not be worthy of seeing jets, but by introduction it's one of the latest prop fighters to enter service in the game.

I get the feeling in game the La-9 is for people who like the La-7 but struggle with Soviet 20mm cannons. Kind of like the Yak-9U vs the Yak-9P - you trade flight performance for easier kills in deflection shots.
They are similar in playstyle yeah.
The extra firepower really helps with getting kills in hit & run attacks. Less time aiming is more time keeping energy up and watching out for enemy planes.
Great flight! You should do a video on the Ta-154. It rolls well and is very speedy, good for bomber interception and forcing overshoots

I got terror of the sky once in the AD2, and that was after dropping stones and firing off the yeetwaffen and ground targets. We lost because no one went after a space climbing B-17 and it flew above my max altitude (mixed games can be weird)

when BnZing its ideal if you take out your oponnent on the 1st run specially if he can be faster than you so if you take him out on the 1st run you dont have to worry bout it too much (but still always have a getaway plan)

Yeah I used to, know it's more automatic because I have a lot of experience, but the thinking that got me doing the automatic maneuver is what I write in the video. In new planes and new situations I think a lot the first few games, then it becomes automatic.
The La-9 maybe be slightly too high tier at 6.0, but it sure works well for air superiority role in ground RB.
I think it's good where it is with its recent buff.

Hmm I don't really have a favorite nation, it's more the type of aircraft that I like. I like fast aircraft which can still dogfight their way out of a pinch if needed (Tempest Mk V, P51D30, Ta152H, F4Us).

I'd like to, but it's a big time investment considering I'm still in university and I have other projects going on at the same time. For complete games, it's slow paced enough that text is fine, and I don't have enough to talk about for 10 minutes. When voice is necessary (reversal video for example), I'll do it.

That goes for any aircraft that is more maneuverable than you. If they can dive and catch you, you made the mistake of getting too close. You can reverse them with experience and the right aircraft though.
Lol you are right about them AD 4s. I once had a spectacularly memorable fight with one in a A7M1. Took me completely by surprise. He got me low and slow but I was super confident about easily taking him down. Wasn’t to be. He put up one hell of a fight. He ended up being my 5th kill in my only ace match with the A7M1. But he took up so much time that the last Spitfire in the enemy team had the time to reach us and finish me off when I had absolutely no energy left. So it’s definitely a threat in the right hands.

Adam514 well I’m not a particularly great pilot myself but I’d like to think he was exceptionally skilled ;) funnily enough no other AD 4 ever gave me anywhere nearly as much trouble again. Boss I really suck with Russian aircraft. I have their planes unlocked till the La 7 but I did that with a Stalinbolt. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the hang of this nation? Any low tier trainer plane I should fly? Any tricks I should know?
From time to time you find a good pilot in an attacker, but it's very rare.
I'd recommend the La7, is that low tier enough for you? The trick is to push the enemy team down/lure them down and use your superior maneuverability and climb at low altitude to defeat individual enemy planes. Russian planes are quite fast at low altitude as well, you can run from UK aircraft.

In contrast to you i immediately liked this plane even when completely stock.
Somehow i became more accurate in this plane, than in any other plane i’ve ever player. Low velocity of those NS-23 seems to FI-T :D me very well.
Damage output was very good for me even before 1.79 when i played almost all of my 120 battles (i know that 23mm were considered very weak before patch). Now they are my favourite.
Also contrary to you i find this plane to be BETTER than any Prop fighters except high Br spitfires and Ki-84’s.
I don’t have any experience In UK and US planes at high Br except F4U-4B which i spaded, so my opinion isn’t of the highest quality.......but from my experience in La-9 i conclude that it’s WAY better in dogfight of any sort, than F4U-4B, Tempest MK V(risky statement),P47-M(now without airspawn), P-51H, and all German top Br fighters (even Ta 152-H with flaps).
It’s comparable to Bearcat’s but overall a bit better, similiar with J7W1 and comparable/worse than Griffon spitfires and worse than Ki 84’s.
I also hadn’t many situations when i couldn’t catch up to someone running away from me, where higher top speed of for example Tempest Mk V would make any difference ( often when i can’t catch to someone, distance and altitude difference is so high that having any other prop fighter wouldn’t help).
Higher top speed could help when trying to catch a jet, but for some reason i don’t have big problems with jets. Enemies rarely use their top speed advantage.
For me the most important characteristic of a fighter is to be able to dogfight (rolling scissors, stall fighting, reversals, defensive flying to cause overshoot, turning in vertical, horizontal, and all those fancy sounding maneuvers) so i don’t see why this plane is below average when compared to 5.7 fighter i if can do it better than most o them.
I mean:

great climb rate to about 4k, higher is average to bad.

Me: I think all the aircraft you listed here have very comparable turn and roll, La9 wouldn't have more than a slight advantage if any over these. However, all these aircraft are much faster than the La9 (Ta152H prob needs 3km alt), and some have better armament/ammo.
I'd only say great climb until 2.5km, then it quickly drops to average over that altitude.
It is indeed better than most aircraft at pulling negative Gs.

That's some pretty bad linear ER, which is very important to dive and catch jets since it fights them often.

Me: Might be the different propeller used on the La9 which allows more efficient use of the engine power at lower speed. Some aircraft (Bf109s) have particularly bad thrust and acceleration at low speed due to the prop-engine combo.
La7 has better turn, climb, acceleration and speed over the La9. The only thing the La9 does better is its armament.
All the fighters you mentioned are roughly equal to the La9 at low altitude, but starting at medium altitudes (3km), La9 is outperformed by a lot in climb and speed. That's why La9 doesn't deserve 6.0 BR compared to the aircraft you listed, it deserves 5.7.

About La 7 vs La 9 i see it differently. La 9 climbs noticeably better, accelerates similarly, but compresses a bit less and has 150 kph higher rip speed (890 kph), so it's much faster. La 9 turns worse than la-7 but it can deploy takeoff flaps at speed in which la 7 can use only combat, making their turn similar.
I know, i just contradicted what you said but that are results of me flying both of them a lot, and small testing in test flight ...I hope it's not confirmation bias.
You should compare them after you get through "terrible, horrible,not good,very bad, to long" spading process of La-9. Upgrades change a lot.
Also since La 9 is only about 150 kg heavier IRL, has better propeller, and cleaner air frame with better wings it should perform as i written. again confirmation bias maybe

Me: For some reason i don't have problem catching jets despite bad linear ER. Usually i get to speed that is enough to catch them if i have big alt advantage.

I can't agree with turn time part because F4U-4B turns worse than La-9 (but not much) so Tempest Mk V turns worse too. P-47M and P-51H turns worse. Ta 152 H in those rare vs germany matches were similar/better but their yawing during maneuvers due to bad rudder helped a lot. I can't recall any situation when any of those aircraft outmaneuvered me in La-9, in 1vs1 situations. Only planes i don't feel confident against are Spitfires(they also climb a lot and like to keep their alt), Ki 84's and A7M2.

Me: I agree with poor "medium/high" to high alt performance, but it's not that much noticeable at 3k-4k
Now enemies often either don't climb that much, or dive whenever they see enemy below them, so it's rare to fight high and suffer from bad high alt performance.
I agree that Br should be lowered to 5.7.
Unfortunately change in Br wouldn't really change situation against props because most of the battles are in 5.3-6.3 or 5.0-6.0 Br 4.7-5.7 is very rare. Also this change would only make la-9 not fight jets, and those battles are at least for me very fun.(big satisfaction of destroying a Me 262) I hate R2Y2 tho.
I almost unlocked canon bearcat, i'll see how it compares to La-9.

La9 isn't cleaner than the La7, since the La7 is faster at sea level than the La9 (616km/h vs 607km/h) which should also make it climb better than the La9 since the La9 is a bit heavier (but climb is essentially the same). Higher rip speed is indeed a decent bonus to the La9.
I do agree that all those aircraft turn worse, but barely worse. And at high prop BRs you'd need 30s of turning to get a shot on those planes with your better turn.

The la9 is one of my favorite 5.7 aircraft the stock grind is reasonable also the ns23 cannons hit very hard I probably like them more than the German 20mm i never had sparks off of the ns23 also I think the shavak 20mms and the hispano cannons should get buffed I just nearly spaded my la9 I think it performs slightly better than the la7 only thing I need to get for my la 9 is the cover and engine injection and I'm thinking on getting the i225 I need to grind out the Russian tech tree including the rest of the mig and yak line also I want the su7b next patch so I'm going to talisman the la9 and the i225
6.0 BR though, but yeah it's good.

I don't think it's good because even though it has a good top speed, its acceleration is bad and getting there takes ages. Also, it has similar turn to the Ta152C but can't really use flaps to help I think.

adam why do you use convergence on a plane with nose mounted weapons? Im asking cause I use convergence at 800m even on planes like the Ta152 C3 or the Dora's.
I always use 400m because I think the convergence value changes where your reticle is, so you're better off keeping a constant value for all aircraft since at short range (under 300m), aiming gets complicated (you need to have your reticle over the enemy aircraft to hit due to the camera angle).
Yeah I noticed that you had some trouble when you had to shoot at closer range. Well i cant say I have noticed a difference in the aiming reticle in regards to the convergence. Maybe I am used to have different convergence for different planes, based on where the armament is placed. I go for 500m on the 50cals that are wing mounted, 600m for cannons like the ones the Italians or the British have on their wings and 800 for anything with nose mounted guns. I guess its a matter of habit.

Honestly, as an AB player watching this: I guess I'll continue to avoid playing RB, at least for a couple of years or so... Compared to the skills shown here, the likelihood to embarrass myself is a clear 100%. Hands down some of the best aiming and trigger discipline I have ever seen. O7

But seriously, I highly recommend playing RB. You get a much better feeling of how aircraft behave, no lead marker so there's more thought to defensive flying, and more teamwork (usually). Don't let what pilots like me show discourage you, it's less than 1% of RB players that can do this.
I started off as a noob like everyone else in RB, but it didn't take long for me to become more useful than the average player on my team. Just don't start off in tier 3-4 which are way less forgiving in terms of aircraft and pilot skills in general.

I'm really glad, people are watching Adam's vids even 3 years after release. And me and RB: It's kind of sad story, I'm still a noob with not nearly enough time to spend in this game -- and it's getting worse. So no, not really. But since I come back to WT now and then and WT is going to be a thing for at least the next 120 years, I haven't abandoned all hope. And hey, I'm gonna retire from my job in just 30 years or so -- and I guess this will be an excellent opportunity to finally master this game mode.
@@a_lauscha5604 honestly i think you should keep trying, im still not super good, and the level in rb is higher than in ab, but at rank 1-2 with monoplanes the skill level of other players is lower and u can get some early experience before venturing into higher levels.
Also american planes are hard to master so i'd start with good climbing planes if u want to learn to energy fight

It's called the "local host".
How to access the "local host":
You need to be running War Thunder or it won't work!
Option 1: on the same computer that is running WT:
-Type localhost:8111/ in the address bar and press enter and voila.
Option 2 (which also works on the computer that runs WT):
-Type Your_IP_Address:8111/ where you replace "Your_IP_Address" by your IP Address (192.168.X.XXX) in the address bar and press enter and voila, you can look at the characteristics on another device while flying.
I got it, but how can I put in to my screen in the game like in the video?
I do that when I edit the video. I record the gameplay on my PC and the local host on my laptop next to me, and paste the local host footage over the gameplay.
There is a way to get it on the same screen, you'd have to play WT in windowed mode and try some things out. I've never done it.

I feel that you are maybe shooting a bit too fast with the la-9. It's an aircraft where you shouldn't take chances, only fire when you can guarantee a hit and never hold fire unless someone is flying across you screen. Tap tap tap is the key.
That's what I do, and that's how I managed to get 6 kills with 300 rounds. I took a chance on the F82 when it went vertical and I got a hitmarker, just no damage.
I know this is unrelated to the video, but can someone tell me which belt I should use for the 20mm shvak? I keep getting mixed answers. Some say Tracers, some say Armored Targets.
Even Default are pretty good... I don't think there's a consensus on them.
I’ve used tracers mostly. The FI-T rounds do an ok amount of damage-usually enough to cripple the enemy’s performance or set them on fire.

Another amazing video, as always. I started playing war thunder in my weeaboo phase, so I picked the japanese before even looking at the planes in higher BRs. I got stuck at 4.7, so I have over a thousand hours on the A6M5 Otsu XD

IMO its the best looking Spitfire/Seafire, in a downtier it's actually quite nice (Spaded), and it also can dive up to 900kmh TAS, which is higher than Bf-109 I think.
So it's not all that bad, even it an uptier the high dive speed can catch jets due to its 6.0 BR.
109s can't go over 800 so yeah it dives better than 109s. Looks are secondary, it's what's inside that counts ;).

What's the difference between true airspeed and indicated airspeed? And which one should I use?
True airspeed (TAS) is the speed you move through the air, it's equal to your ground speed when there's no wind.
Indicated airspeed (IAS) is the speed your aircraft "feels". Since one component in lift and drag is air density, and air density lowers as altitude increases, you need a higher TAS at higher altitude for your aircraft to be feeling the same lift in drag. Essentially, your aircraft will handle the same at the same IAS, no matter the altitude. You will pull as many Gs at 300km/h IAS whether you're at 0km or 6km altitude.
TAS=IAS at sea level, but TAS>IAS at any altitude above sea level.
You should use IAS, it's easier to use.

For me ammo isn't a problem, proboably because I main the Soviets so im used to low ammo count. I get 4 kills on average per game and still have half the ammo left. Its super satisfying one tapping planes from a kilometer away in it aswell.
I've never seen anyone with 4 kills per game, you're the best WT pilot.

Adam514 1.0 US float plane armed with one 7.62 for offensive and one for defensive. They took it out like a year ago because it was waay too OP (was a really crappy plane...) so you might not even have it. It suffered the same fate of the PO-2 except they don’t even do any events that allow you to get it again.
