Im italian, I went 14 days in japan with my aunt. We literally ate sushi for lunch and dinner every single day. We were still not bored. It was incredible
i work at a sushi train shop and i like the free food and it isnt that bad for me but if it's ONLY raw fish.... yeah idk about that! I love salmon sashimi but.. but if other meat and other types of meat can be included, it's not so different from like rice bowls haha
i was pescatarian for 2 years. got mercury poisoning after consuming too much raw fish (i was eat poke bowls at least 2x-3x a week for lunch or dinner while i was in college). got mercury poisoning and i stopped. sadly my mercury sensitivity is so potent that even if i have a one roll of sushi, i’m going to be in the bathroom for 2 days 😭 you guys had me scared with the mercury poisoning, hope you guys are good!
half-life of mercury in the body is said by some research papers to be anywhere from a few or many months, to possibly years depending on how much and how pure/organic the mercury was... some even say that it depends where it is in the body, like the brain apparently takes many many years for it to completely be freed of mercury... i feel like eating such fish and going to the bathroom right away has to do with either bacteria, or the properties of going back to eating an abundance of any kind of raw meat after years of evolving on an VARYING ABUNDANCE of at least somewhat cooked meat... it could be a bunch of other factors and be it specifically your first college-era habits (eating alone). i stopped eating sushi recently due to poor quality in non-japan, and its always more of a scare about parasites then it is mercury... and id be afraid of experiencing the more potentially common contamination of my edible consumptions, rather than small abundances of mercury... heck the amount of slices of fish they had, were minimal in comparison to the whole fish, and be it within a day... they ate varying raw fish and varying minature ratioed amounts SPREAD ACROSS A WEEK... mercury was probably the least of their worries, and they probably had a major imbalance of nutrition for the week (if not more...)... (especially seeing how they indulge on convience stores and high volume conviency resturants...)
my mom worked at a sushi resturant when she was preggo with me, and she said the chef would let her eat whatever she wanted and maybe thats why i turned out the way i did
fr as a non japanese i love sushi i will never get tired of it, but i think thats because eating sushi makes me feel like im in japan or smth because my triditonal food is spicy, meaty etc so its different for my tastebuds
unless yall have weak stomachs i don't think you got sick because of the sushi, usually when north americans travel abroad they can sometimes go to the toilet a lot because of adjustment to the water or food practices. before i went to korea for the first time i remember my doctor recommending me to take some medicine before i go so that doesn't happen to me but i was like nahh (safe to say i was on the toilet a lot)
huh that’s actually interesting and strange? Is it only for North Americans? I’m Korean and I travel a lot: Europe, parts of Asia, and north america. Not South America yet but I plan to. Regardless, this has never happened to me before
@@fidd1442 it probably is. if you go to any travel clinic they can provide that medicine. it's a liquid and one dose i believe. considering the intensity of food safety laws and water regulation here that might be why? not entirely sure. not saying that north america is cleaner or anything cuz i'm asian born here but yeah!
It would take months to years of eating only sushi to get mercury poisoning. It's something that builds up over time unless you start breaking open old thermometers and chugging the mercury.
thats an interesting idea... i wanted to try that recently but gave up on seeing i wont ever get the natural experience were i am... indian cuisine was as close as i got, and even for what i was able to do well on my own, it aint a good comparison... and trying authentic chinese food finally completely blew the chance for expectation away... too much to figure out without ever again having that fundamental inherently learned for days already... (i missed my chance on thai recently, and i may never get the expecience of true japanese. im sure that would be the real kicker for the end...) confined by enforced inevitable shittery, having to claw beyond tooth and nail to get out, only to further bashed in the head by trying or even imagining attempt... lol
Bro they didn’t think about the amount of sodium they ate from instant noodles, the capsaicin from the spicy vids, all the food challenges, putting their health in danger, and they care about mercury poisoning? Like instant noodles are way more unhealthy than sushi
@@NoobGamer-mh4gj The air analogy doesn’t really work here. Breathing polluted air is unavoidable because we need air to live, but eating sushi or instant noodles is entirely a choice. Plus, the real comparison isn’t between sushi and air-it’s between sushi and instant noodles. And when you stack it up, instant noodles are packed with excessive sodium, artificial preservatives, and chemicals that can cause issues like high blood pressure and kidney strain. Sure, mercury in sushi is a concern if eaten excessively, but instant noodles are arguably worse for overall health because they combine so many harmful substances in one go. Comparing those risks makes the air argument kind of irrelevant.
My dad built multiple sushi restaurants in my area and the deal was he did it for unlimited sushi. We ended up eating sushi to the extent i couldnt even look at it without getting nauseated for a few years haha. Still get free sushi to this day but i practice moderation now.
My second time in my ancestral home Japan. I went to the Tsukiji fish market for a day and ordered 40 peices ov sashimi. 20 and 20 ov salmon and tuna. Everyone was shocked and I was quite proud that day.
Italian here from North-Eastern Italy who loves asian cuisine and in praticular sushi (my favourite food even if cuisine here is exceptional), had diarrea sometimes but as Uncle Roger says, "good food better than health!!"
You see I like the things I like, but I like liking them. If I overeat them, it would ruin the experience. Then I wouldn't like them anymore. That would take away from my life, the fullness, and richness of it. Not finding them repulsive is integral in allowing them to remain enjoyable. Live and learn I guess.

Yeah there's a reason why sushi is considered a "vacation for the tastebuds". My love for this dish would die if I had to consume it everyday.
yeah literally LOL
It wouldn’t for me, but the main problem is too much mercury. If that wasn’t an issue I could eat it for years as the only food guaranteed.
