- Tying deer-hair flies like mice, dahlberg divers, and all kinds of floating flies can be very difficult and a big mess of off deer hair. We are thrilled here at Ahrex that our good friend - the famous and extremely talented tyer Andreas Andersson - will show his tips and techniques on how to stack, tie in and trim a difficult fly like the Dahlberg Diver to perfection. Watch and learn from the master himself, tying his Yellow and Olive version of the deadly and beautiful popper.
Hook: Ahrex PR320 Predator Stinger
Thread: Veevus GSP 200D

Watching this for maybe the tenth time, still finding mind blowing subtleties. Goat level deer hair work...
That open clip it's tied to at the end is horrifying
Sculpting rather than tying, or a mixture of both. Amazing.
Much as I can never trust a skinny chef, I don't trust a fly tyer with such an immaculately clean tying desk. It's not natural🤣🤣🤣
Amazing tie. Way above my patience level.
Man! What an awesome piece!
I wouldn't dare fish this fly. This a museum or a gallery art piece worthy of an heirloom trust.
Thanks for sharing.
43 minutes without narration and I think some parts may even be sped up. It's an awesome pattern I just can't imagine it would be profitable for a commercial tyer unless you were charging $25 for it. Probably something I'd keep to myself.
Much respect to the tyer though, amazing skills.
We didnt have the right sound-recording at that time, but we do now - and off-course we will try to get Andreas in the studio once again and make him tie another and explain during the steps :-) he is indeed a master when handling and tyind with deer-hair :-)
I’m figuring they’d be starting around $100.A local tier ties 15” Gamechangers that take about 40 minutes and gets $75 and he’s back logged for months. I’ll just stick to tying and using Wooly Buggers.😂🎣
@@charlieboutin3341 that’s crazy lol. Shoot I’ll stay at home and tie game changers all day for $75 a pop.
My God your work is nothing short of amazing. Truly beautiful.
Thanks 😊
The Pringle lid idea is so helpful ty
This is very helpful, thanks, I didn't realize how much you could actually fit on one hook. Incredible technique, I'm just starting out and watching a master really helps, even without words.
Super,super,super! Accuracy like a watchmaker ...🙏👏👏👏
My first time watching Andreas. Magnificient! I have never seen deer hair done as well. Will be looking and hoping for more to come perhaps with voice and some instructions. Bob Miller
So over the top cool!! Unreal and i would love to fish this diver. Absolutely the nicest stacking and trimming i ]have seen! I took a class from Dave Whitlock and Larry Dahlberg in the 80's on tying this fly. This takes it to a whole new level! Most excellent.
Great fly, great flytyier and very good flytying tube👍
Larry and Andreas, a great combination.
Such a master very detailed . I`m new at this I like the way he just takes his time and so precise and methodical .
Beautiful tie!
WOW... truly a master of his craft.
Bro -you are beyond amazing..blows my mind!!!
Thanks, Andreas is true master!
My gosh! That is one beautiful fly. Nicely done!
I would really love this video with a “vocal”. Andreas has so many different techniques that is impossible to show just with “video”. I have tied flies with this master before and my god he is good! Is there any chance of uploading this video with the vocal? All the best, Eivind B.
I agree, 43 minutes of bad music is nowhere near as interesting as a good explanation
super sick hair work.
Great Job. Loved seeing a true artist work
This is a piece of art!
perfected perfectionism. Great Tying Andreas
I agree Mr. Andersson needs a t ying dvd with full instruction on some patterns.
Came for the pimp fly tying and stayed for the pimp music.
Oh, exceptional tying, BTW...
Great tie 👏 thank you for sharing.
do you have a fly recipe for this one? Thanks
Hi - I have just updatet the description of fle film with the tying-description, but here it is:
Hook: Ahrex PR320 Predator Stinger

Hackle: A yellow marabou feather turned and the tip of a olive marabou feather on top

@@ahrexhooks3652 thank you and you make spinning deer look easy.. ughh i can do it well but its a pain in the arse still
Thanks for sharing, nicely done !
crazy!! nice tie.. loved to see this
imagine snagging this fly on a rock first cast after tying
Great job, congratulations...
a work of art congratulations !! just a question about the material used on the front of the popper whether it is deer belly hair or deer body hair?
Its probably belly hair. Thats got the most sponginess to it which is what you need for it to flair well. Most brands won't tell you exactly what it is, they'll just call it deer hair. The thicker and spongier the better.
I would think it is belly hair, as it is white and can be died nicely in any color.
I'll just keep buying these i don't think I'm ready to try and make one yet
You are an artist....my friend!!! What would you have to charge for one of these???
Just out of sheer curiosity... what would a fly like this cost??
If you're patient, pay attention and turn off the music I don't think that you can get a more informative tutorial on how to tie a Dahlberg diver than this. Damn, this is some fine tying!!
Wow !
This man is an artist! That’s all I can say 👍
Great-looking fly. I don't see any replies to any of the comments but I'll go ahead and ask a question here. I'm a fairly experienced deer spinner and I make pretty good poppers and sliders. However, the three times I tried the Dahlberg Diver, I ended up cutting my thread trying to trim it down to look like yours. Any suggestions?
Smaller clumps of hair at the front end will help you get a tighter look without cutting the thread.
Very nice tying. i would like to tie one of these guys. What size of the Ahrex PR320 Predator Stinger you got to tie this fly? 4/0 or 6/0?
so wheres the fish?
Very nice fly wish it explained techniques as he used them
Music is better at 2x playback speed. Nice bunny.
What is that super magnum hair stacking tool? Thanks!
how on earth do you manage to get so much hair on the hook
He is just a master in deer-hair work, hard work behind the vise just pays off 🙂 Please check out the other Dahlberg Diver he has tied in our studio with explanation and tips for packing deer-hair 🙂
@@ahrexhooks3652 yeah i am now following his videos , he makes it look too easy
pike or muskie fly ????? how long is it
eres el mejor crack saludame te lo estoy pidiendo desde hase mucho por favor me encantas tu vídeos 😲😲😲😍
pure ART.!!! amazing...
wow
wow perfect
What size is the hook?
It's the PR320 size 4/0 or 6/0
look up steve potter he was one on utube great deer hair tyer
Makes me wonder how many thousands of these he’s tied over the years to get them this perfect......
Now thats a foreplay
👍👍👏👏
Hell Yeah!!! I'd eat that!
The goat
He's not but he's very good. There's a fair few of us that can tie to this standard. The books I learned off in the nineties actually have some photos of flies that are even a bit better than this. Just in the control of the bands of colour. The density of the hair is no better. I've lent all my books to a client and can't remember the name of it.
Blesk!!!
Wish he would do something a little harder
Its not that hard. Youve got to be prepared to waste a bit of material and make a bloody great mess but you would be able to do it if you want. Jimmy Nix's old video on tying bass flies was how I learned.
No Talk No Good
Hi Judgetoogood. It is a older video we made with the equipment we had at that time - but we recently made a new video with Andreas tying a Dahlberg Diver - hope you like this one better 🙂

First cast, he loses it in log… 😬
word
This would have been a lot better if he would tell what he was doing has he was tying the fly, instead of playing that crappy music, this was usless to some one learning to tie flys
Jimmy Nix's old video on tying bass flies was how I learned and it got me to this standard just if that's helpful. But you're right, its frustrating that its a display of skill more than an actual tutorial.
I would not mind at all you cutting my hair ,...
