  • Tying deer-hair flies like mice, dahlberg divers, and all kinds of floating flies can be very difficult and a big mess of off deer hair. We are thrilled here at Ahrex that our good friend - the famous and extremely talented tyer Andreas Andersson - will show his tips and techniques on how to stack, tie in and trim a difficult fly like the Dahlberg Diver to perfection. Watch and learn from the master himself, tying his Yellow and Olive version of the deadly and beautiful popper.
    Hook: Ahrex PR320 Predator Stinger
    Thread: Veevus GSP 200D
    Tail: Chartreuse bucktail, Holographic Firetiger Flashabou, chartreuse grizzly saddle and Perch Crystal Flesh Baitfish Fibre
    Hackle: A yellow marabou feather turned and the tip of a olive marabou feather on top
    Body: Deerhair in yellow, orange, black and olive, trimmed and shaped
    Finish: Thin layer of UV-glue on the bottom and on the collar to secure
    Eyes: Fish Skulls Living Eyes - Fire

    Sculpting rather than tying, or a mixture of both. Amazing.

    Much as I can never trust a skinny chef, I don't trust a fly tyer with such an immaculately clean tying desk. It's not natural🤣🤣🤣
    Amazing tie. Way above my patience level.

    43 minutes without narration and I think some parts may even be sped up. It's an awesome pattern I just can't imagine it would be profitable for a commercial tyer unless you were charging $25 for it. Probably something I'd keep to myself.
    Much respect to the tyer though, amazing skills.

      We didnt have the right sound-recording at that time, but we do now - and off-course we will try to get Andreas in the studio once again and make him tie another and explain during the steps :-) he is indeed a master when handling and tyind with deer-hair :-)

      I’m figuring they’d be starting around $100.A local tier ties 15” Gamechangers that take about 40 minutes and gets $75 and he’s back logged for months. I’ll just stick to tying and using Wooly Buggers.😂🎣

      @@charlieboutin3341 that’s crazy lol. Shoot I’ll stay at home and tie game changers all day for $75 a pop.

    So over the top cool!! Unreal and i would love to fish this diver. Absolutely the nicest stacking and trimming i ]have seen! I took a class from Dave Whitlock and Larry Dahlberg in the 80's on tying this fly. This takes it to a whole new level! Most excellent.

    a work of art congratulations !! just a question about the material used on the front of the popper whether it is deer belly hair or deer body hair?

    • @markrigg6623
      @markrigg6623 4 роки тому +1

      Its probably belly hair. Thats got the most sponginess to it which is what you need for it to flair well. Most brands won't tell you exactly what it is, they'll just call it deer hair. The thicker and spongier the better.

    • @cachi-7878
      @cachi-7878 2 роки тому +1

      I would think it is belly hair, as it is white and can be died nicely in any color.

    Great-looking fly. I don't see any replies to any of the comments but I'll go ahead and ask a question here. I'm a fairly experienced deer spinner and I make pretty good poppers and sliders. However, the three times I tried the Dahlberg Diver, I ended up cutting my thread trying to trim it down to look like yours. Any suggestions?

    • @andrewlomas5877
      @andrewlomas5877 5 років тому +1

      Smaller clumps of hair at the front end will help you get a tighter look without cutting the thread.

      He's not but he's very good. There's a fair few of us that can tie to this standard. The books I learned off in the nineties actually have some photos of flies that are even a bit better than this. Just in the control of the bands of colour. The density of the hair is no better. I've lent all my books to a client and can't remember the name of it.

      Its not that hard. Youve got to be prepared to waste a bit of material and make a bloody great mess but you would be able to do it if you want. Jimmy Nix's old video on tying bass flies was how I learned.
