I played through my copy seven or eight years ago. Intriguingly different, but extremely clunky and opaque. Probably the worst elements were the weapon degradation and lack of clear direction, while the visuals were actually quite good for the time.
People overlook the Master System, but if you look hard enough there are incredible gems to be enjoyed on the system. Just to name a few: Miracle Warriors, Y’s, Phantasy Star, Golvellius, Master of Darkness, Shinobi, Rambo III, Kenseiden, Penguin Land, Zillion, Psycho Fox, Rastan, Wonder Boy III, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World and Miracle World etc. It was my first console and I’ll always love it. In that era many people owned the SMS before they ever got a NES, similar to how people owned the Genesis before they ever got a SNES. Sega were always innovators and first to the party, for better or worse. Thanks for the play through. Miracle Warriors is definitely still worth playing.
@@asafoetidajones8181It WAS impossible. I would mark hidden caves and stuff on the map in pen. At one point I was just going square by square looking for somewhere to go. That’s after getting all my magic items filled that run out in a hurry. What’s the guide?
Me and my Brother played this together when it came out on Master System, we were obsessed with this one. I forgot about it for many years, thanks for the video!
The physical release of this game included an awesomely detailed and large fold-out map; it pumped you up about going out and exploring the areas of the game. I defeated this but I did need to call the Sega line for a couple of things. (I was 13 years old at the time) Miracle Warriors was a nice complement and lead-in to Phantasy Star, though PS was much better overall and is the greatest 8-bit console JRPG that was released. As I SMS owner I definitely appreciated games like this being released as I took good notice of Legend of Zelda and Dragon Warrior on NES and wanted similar for the Master System.
This and Govellius were extremely underrated. Especially with this games mechanic to kill NPCs. Though, I don't think Nintendo would ever allow a boss like that.
I loved this game when I was a kid but the music really got to me. I remember turning on Pink Floyd and playing this for weeks until I finally finished it. A hidden gem of a game.
It may be nearly 30 years since I played this game but I seem to be as immature now as I was then. The final battle where you nut all over Terarin's ample bosom is *chefs kiss*
When my parent´s weren´t home and went for some social action, me and other three friends were at my place (mind you, it was small village, to they stuck us together and other parents went there. I think it was from 5 p.m - 6 a.m and only my old grandparents were home , so we werent´ alone per say). So we had marathon and while I don´t remember you could save game here, we finished the game before our parents returned. Gaming was best babysitter xD
Master System had some fantastic RPGs... I had Golvellius, Wonder Boy In Monster Land and this game but couldn't beat any of them... as a 7 year old, I didn't understand the need to grind in this game so I couldn't get very far... sadly, I didn't own the other 3 greats Phantasy Star, Golden Axe Warrior and Ys Vanished Omen.
Oh my gosh, I remember this one! I always thought it was really cool that you could kill the NPCs, even if they were just trying to be helpful to you. I haven't come across many games that offer similar actions except maybe PC games like _Fallout_ (especially if a child NPC pickpocketed you, but then the adults in the village pretty much ganged up and turned you into swiss cheese), or the older _Elder Scrolls_ games.
Sevgili kardeşim çok teşekkür ederim yıllardır aradığım videoydu her seferinde kendim oynayıp bitiriyordum ama arada bir izlemek istiyorum çok teşekkürler
Definitely an "under the radar" title. It's no Final Fantasy, but it's still worth one look. I played the Japanese version with its FM sound a lot back then. The PSG sound here isn't too bad though, admittedly.
Seems like the Famicom version was somewhat different from what I've seen, with a different map and all that; guess this one's not a straightforward port if that's the case. Well, Master System only really had a few RPGs, compared to a slew that the Famicom received, so it's a bit paradoxical that this is the one that ended up released so early abroad.
The Famicom version is a direct port of whichever PC version was first. PC88, MSX/MSX2, And Famicom are the same game with some graphical and sound differences based on what the platform could handle. The SMS/Mark III version is a remaster, with significant gameplay changes (Map, Enemies, Items, Game Mechanics, etc). Same story, but definitely a different game experience.
It doesn't get much recognition, but the first console JRPG to be released in English is worth sinking some time into if you're a fan of the genre.
Final Fantasy on the NES was the first, wasn't it?
@@niemand7811 Final Fantasy was released in English in 1990, this game was released in English in 1988.
I had this game when I was a little kid and could never figure out to complete it.
@@jdubthegaymerOP said “JRPG” not “RPG,” so your reply is pointless lol

I was always a Nintendo guy but my brother had the Master System and you're right. It really had some gems that hold up well.
@@PR_1775 Hi Paul. I’m a Nintendo guy as well, but I’ll always have fond memories of the Master System. Thanks for your reply and Happy New Year!
@@rjcupid Thanks. Happy New Year to you as well!
@@PR_1775 Thanks! 😎
@deagleninja There definitely were a lot of really bad NES games. I played my share of them too. :)
I played that game for two years when I was a kid and could never beat it. Thanks UA-cam.
Same. Then I got it a few years ago and beat in one long night
@@DJkitty2013 Without a guide?
I can't imagine doing this guideless. There's a required hidden dungeon at some point that I think would be almost impossible to find without one.

They had some real fun coming up with these monsters

The boss fight music in this game needs a metal remake, such a kick ass riff!

this cost $59.99 when it came out, which equates to $151.96 in 2024 money
worth it for 9 hours of 8-bit rpg action

Marvelous video.
I remember in my youth getting all my warriors to full XP health. The final boss was so much easier obviously.
Classic
i never finished this game. got stuck and lost for where to go.... one day i will pick it up again just to finish it.
Obligatory: SEGA!

Dis dude forgot that Guy does extra damage to skeletons.
its alright but phantasy star blows this out of the water
