This is a great video! I have a flute with in line G keys. For some reason when I press the B flat lever, my A key seems to “stick” a bit and gets depressed slightly as well before popping back up. Similarly when I press the F key. I tried to take apart the first parts of the keys per this video, though I couldn’t figure out further what’s making those 2 keys stick. Is this a common problem for flutes?
Your A key is probably sticking to the hinge rod that goes through it. The hinge rod or key is bent. Or the hinge rod has a little rust on it. The key will need to be removed and straightened or cleaned.
I am trying this myself on a flute I bought on Ebay (1945). One of the pivot keys won't budge. The others were fairly tough to get out- kind of gunked up, but one will not budge at all. I am using a woodwind repair screwdriver. Tried WD40, silicone spray, and tapping the screwdriver with a mallet to no avail. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
If it is one of the trill keys, you can usually leave it there and don't worry about it. If it is the right hand keys, then you will need to get it off no matter what. One thing you can try is using vice grips to hold on to the screwdriver to get a little bit more leverage. You need to be careful though because you could damage the head of the screw. If that fails, you will need to drill out the pivot screw and replace it after it is out. It is a big job and it comes with it's own risks. Hope this helps!
I need some help on getting my F# key to come up stronger - I think it uses the lower of those 2 springs that are stacked together (student model) - which direction should the tension on that spring be loaded? Up or away - I can't seem to see where it hooks to it's peg on the key. comes up fine when the other keys press it (seems like) but just weaker on it's own... Im sooo close on this, and then it;s off to setting the pads and registration, but the keys need to work right... F# is not supposed to be a little slower on it's own, correct?
The F# spring is usually a little weaker that the D, E, and F keys, but it should come up quickly and easily. If you need more spring tension, bend the spring forward (toward the pad cups). Another possible problem is that the pivot screw at the end of the right hand keys may be too tight. Try backing the screw off about a quarter turn or less and see if that frees up the F# key. I hope this helps.

What about that really thin rod, what do u do when that comes out
Question if I don't have a pivot screw and some of my keys fell off can I replace the pivot with anything else or do I have to buy one?
You can make one with a rod, a die, and a jeweler's saw. It is a lot easier to buy one from a local repair shop though.
