Except, I dont remember hearing you say that the eye of Sauron, as portrayed in movies, was inspired by "the eye of sauron" from the books. your take gives the impression that this was entirely an invention of Jackson and his team; yet it was not.

Very much prefer the eye portrayal. It presents Sauron as an otherworldly being more

    Except
He never appears physically in the book.
He is still a ghostly abstract presence in the books. There are no scenes directly with him, we’re removed from that to allow us to invest all that we will in his character. I’d argue even that Jackson’s movies make him more of a physical presence, we see the eye writing, there’s his battle at the start, the nature of the visual medium. Visual is always less abstract than text, it is more concrete, you read this text saying flower and imagine a thousand others but see a flower and it is that flower.
This is a disagreement, I’m not saying you’re wrong. Only that I think the way Tolkien often wrote characters or importance or power was always at arms length. You don’t want an internal monologue of an angel or devil unless you can have that ungodly talent, it is better to imply.
We have the hobbits to show us Gandalf and Aragon.
Yet the movies give us a rise of Aragon like a flawed person arc.
    Anywho
Disagree with me at your leisure, it’s fun!

      I’m terrible with spelling,
The first example is ‘writing’ where it should be ‘writhing’. Hope you give me your compassion there.

During the time of the movies, in that period of the 3rd age, Sauron doesn’t have a physical form again yet. He is still too weak after losing the ring, which holds the majority of his power.
