The beatboxing scene went through the roof in recent years. Really young and talented artist doing amazing stuff in the scene. But D-Low definitely is to be counted as one of the world's best. There are many incredible videos out there, especially the battles are very interesting. They are always competitive but super friendly and supportive of each other. Really refreshing to see compared to the rest of the music scene!

That was pretty interesting! I'm a bit used to the vocalizations being more in line with an actual instrument, or those incredible low bass notes we've heard, where this was somewhat individualized in terms of sounds. However, to be able to integrate those with his singing was impressive. Also he has almost a high-hat "psss" sound that almost goes unnoticed. As you mentioned, trying different and new things can make life much more enjoyable and interesting as you never know until you try what you would have missed!

Thanks for checking out D-low! He’s considered one of the best in the world and was the 2019 Grand Beatbox Battle champion, but there’s lots of great beatboxers with their own unique soundset and style that they spend their lives perfecting.
The beatbox duo Jairo has been getting a lot of attention lately, they’ve put out a bunch of short music videos lately, though their old video covering the song Fuego was an entry for a beatbox competition and uses live sound if you prefer. I see others suggesting Show-Go who is always a popular choice if you want to check out more.

D-Low is great. If you want to see more of him, I would suggest his Swiss Beatbox winner's compilation, where he does some really incredible stuff. It's a long video though. Another beatboxer I deeply respect for the same reason that I like D-Low is Den, from Canada. What I consider his best video so far is called "Den vs Jordox - Twisted Fate", which I think you'll really enjoy watching and listening to. The reason I deeply respect these two more than the grand lot of beatboxers is their deep understanding of song structure when they go about creating and performing entire songs from beginning to end.

after the pandemic I feel like BBX community really exploded and branched out from it's semi "exclusive" like origin.
Something Dlow does a lot that I see almost no mention of is how fast and smooth he can slide through notes and pitch. Buzzing on a low base then smoothly sliding into head voice pitch

I got a feeling that u were especially interested in all the vocal techniques, if so I would recommend to check out some of the following artists, they are very vocal beatboxers and I guess their styles are great for you to get more familiar with beatboxing:
Gene Shinozaki, River, Wing, Show Go, MB14, Stitch.
Besides that there are others pushing the boundaries of bbxing in completely different directions like Technicality (f ex Alem, Skiller, Colaps, Footbox G or Ice) or Basslines (King Inertia, Azel, Vocodah)

Ohh I love D-Low! I also suggest listen to Wing - Killing me Softly (also a beatbox song) or one of his GBB wildcards. And if you want to go completely crazy, D-low's showcase at GBB
There are thousands of people who do this kind of stuff, of course at different levels but the stuff some of these top beatboxers can produce is mindblowing!
You should check out MB14 stuff if you get the chance, although it's mostly loopstation but he's awesome.
Can also recommend reacting to the Circle Jam 2019 video, some good stuff in there.

Dlow certainly is considered top tier in the beatboxing community but there are so many others too! Check out Dlow - Lanigiro or 'If Only' by Colaps, River, Hiss and Alexinho if you like the more melodic style beatboxing tracks 😊

For this trend, i really recommend taras stanin (creepin' from weekend) and/or Jairo (gbb2023 elemination)
they have a real high level of musicality, sound-engineering and of course beatbox-skills

Aye! Welcome to the world of modern-day beatboxing! It’s absolutely through the roof. I think a couple good people on the beatboxing scene to check out would be Den (a canadian beatboxer. Recommend his “Walked Away” BBU wildcard), Stitch (recommend his “Feels Like Nothing” GBB wildcard), and Jairo (a Japanese Tag Team). All three are very musical/vocals focused, and I think you’d really enjoy!
Just to go over a couple techniques used in this video (if you don’t understand any of it, it’s alright. You’ll learn more if you decide to dig deeper).
1:16 D-Low starts incorporating what we call “Throat Bass” here in between these vocals. It’s basically tightening your voice until it starts to break (vocalized clearing of the throat). D-Low’s is *so* clean it’s insane.
1:26 This little technique is called the “Spit Snare.” It’s a snappy little snare sound that’s made without using your lungs at all. Instead, you do fart noises just using your lips. It’s widely used and regarded as one of the best snare sounds to use.
2:08 This little “woob” is chest bass, if I’m not mistaken. It’s different from throat bass where, instead of you tightening the throat and vocalizing, you push your vocals down *without* vocalizing. Sounds counterintuitive, but trust me. Just heave a big sigh. If you feel something rattle in the middle of your throat, that’s chest bass.
2:29 IKR! XD I’m sitting here fanboying with you, and I at least KNOW kinda what’s happening! It’s amazing! To get as good as D-Low here, it takes YEARS.
3:28 I’m melting, lmao. It’s such a relatively simple beat, but my god does D-Low execute it. That little thing when you see him suck in air with his lips is something we call a “Liproll.” Another common technique, but it’s pretty advanced. Such a bassy sound.
4:56 “One more time”
5:13 Aaahhhhhh!!!! I love this so much! The wubs with the chest bass go crazy!! And that tongue bass! So clean! So, tongue bass is basically like rolling your Rs in spanish class, but in more of a “hawking spit” type manner, then vocals on top of it. Roll your Rs (if you can), make a noise like you’re hawking spit, then vocalize. Easier said than done, lmao.

I really like where beatboxing is getting to. I think they all have to work on their scales though. Most of them are not musicians and it would realllyy help them out to learn a little bit of musical theory.

actually lots of beatboxer tend to make their beats more "punchy" rather than taking out the plosives, and there is no need for a special microphone: lots of stuff is made with very basic microphones (if not cellphone mic, lol)
