    I can top it....I got so overwhelmed that I cried on my first day! So embarrassing to have the instructor sit you down and have to calm you down....LOL but you always get through it, and you come out on the other side knowing more than when you went in. Can't wait to graduate next year!!!!

      Oh my gosh I’m not the only one!! I’m in my first semester, and on my first day of clinicals I cried too for the same reason. My instructor kept spitting out questions faster than I could keep up with and I just got so emotional lol. I kind of feel like the people in my clinical group think I’m a baby now, but whatever. I just hope things come more naturally after a while.

    After passing my first ever exam in nursing school today, I’ve realized nursing school is same as an impending battle coming your way. You gotta be ready to fight and it’s a rush when you do.

    Had my first therapeutics lab today and we did an exercise where we had to practice just introducing ourselves to patients and asking about their condition. After I introduced myself I just froze and my heart was beating super fast. My anxiety was THROUGH THE ROOF. I can't even imagine how I'm gonna feel during clinical.

    I literally had that happen to me in clinicals last week and what I thought in my head was what intervention can I use lol so I went back in there and I stated to the patient that I need to practice this because I am a student and I want to be a good nurse someday and they allowed me to assess them and at the end of the night I realize that the patient was just not in a good mood hadn't slept for a few days and depressed. By the end of the night the patient didn't want me to leave. Awww

    Thanks so much for your story Nurse Bass. Today was my first day of Nursing clinicals coincidentally. We are on a tele cardio-pulmonary floor in a trauma 1 regional hospital out of Illinois. We are looking pretty green out there, looking like lost puppies, also our scrubs are Green. Wanted to thank you for your videos they helped get me prepared for Nursing school mindset and make it through the first month of School. I have no idea how you had time for all these videos through School. Anyway I digress, keep inspiring future Nurses!

    Haha 😂. This reminds me of my 1st day too when I had to take a patient's health history and physical assessment. First thing I said was "Good Morning " and the next thing I heard was "Get out, you nurses are so annoying ". Backed out and left. Clinics. You gotta love them.

    That is how EMT clinicals was for me, I was so scarred to just be there. It was fun though, I just went in rooms and asked what their problem was and just asked how it happened, and asked to take their vitals. Unfortunately, I should have said I was an EMT student because they thought I could actually help.

    Hey NurseBass,
    This is unrelated to the video but I had a question about a video you made a long time ago "How to Study in Nursing School: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE! (Everything You Need to Know!)." Say you're given a Microsoft word document and the notes are already organized -- would you recommend re-transcribing those notes onto a new, separate document or would you instead just review the content that has already been provided?
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    My first clinical rotation ever is in a month. So I have to ask... What should you have done in that situation? Should you just basically say sorry sir but I have to assess you and hope he then is cool with it?

    • @Sandra-jv7jt
      @Sandra-jv7jt 5 років тому

      Inconsistent TechDad No. you just say okay that’s fine I can come back a little later. As a student we have to be okay with that because the incoming nurse most likely assessed the pt. But as an RN I think we would just have to try again later when they’re more cooperative because we HAVE to assess them.

      Start SLOW. Take one class, online if you have to. Just get yourself started. I did prerequisites part time for 2 years before applying to the nursing program because I didn't feel ready. I've got terrible anxiety, and I've been having my doctor monitor and coach me through the program. YOU CAN DO IT!

      @@summer-kh4jv you are not a loser!! Tell yourself you can do this! Don't get stuck in that negative mind set. I know it's hard. Focus on one step at a time, sign up for school one or two classes, go at your own pace you're just starting out. So am I. I'm in nursing school, working on prerequisites and general education right now and I'm honestly scared but I push myself because I see so many other people who are nurses, helping others, I want to help them too, so I keep going. When you get into school, focus on studying the material. Don't pay attention to negative thoughts or get caught up with people in class.
      I had a nurse tell me that I should not be nurse because I couldn't figure out how to do a math problem right, to give the right dose of medication to a patient. I was so hurt and angry, I cried and thought I shouldn't be a nurse. But she was wrong. I'm going to get through this. Practice math problems, read the books until you know it inside and out. Mistakes happen. It's okay. I wish you the best of luck.

    Why is it embarrassing for you that he didn’t want to be assessed? It you did the right thing by going to the charge. But I’m not sure how that’s embarrassing?

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  4 роки тому

      Lol I haven't seen this video in forever. It was embarrassing to have to go back to the Nurse and tell her that the patient didn't want to be assessed right then. But it was the initial assessment of the shift, which just simply has to be performed. It isn't optional. So that was the embarrassing part: that I went back to that nurse and was just like "the patient doesn't want to be assessed right now" knowing that it has to be done lol
