My six year old son watched this with me while I cooked breakfast. He got so excited - “I want to paint those, Mom!” (To which I was happily able to reply - “That’s the plan for this afternoon, I’d love it if you joined me in our studio!”) There were so many opportunities to point out healthy ways to handle frustration with art, which he struggles with greatly as a gifted kid who expects to do everything as perfectly and as easily as he does his academics or engineering projects. (This has caused him a lot of tears with art, which does not come as naturally as he had hoped.) Thank you. We’re going to start watching a lot more of your videos together, they’re so good for both of us!
I love hearing this! My son, also 6 definitely struggles with art too. He's extremely sensitive and feels his teacher judges his coloring pages, etc...poor guy. I work with him on sketching ninjas and other such characters and he's having a blast!

Hello👋How are you doing😌 I hope this year brings happiness, joy , and peace all over the world, I’m from Key West Florida and you where are you form if I may ask? I’ve been living in Key West for 30years now
Hello Kristy, thank you for being you! The time I get to spend on painting and relaxing is my fun time and my time to let my soul rehydrate, I wouldn't bother to follow anyone who would ruin that freedom by pointing out rules and other " You should never". Advice is something else and you are so honest and joyful when it comes to sharing your knowledge. I started to paint with watercolours in January this year and now I'm addicted, not a moment of the day goes by without me thinking, dreaming of painting and getting images in my head. I have a totally anarchistic approach to art and learn as I go. The one thing I'm longing for is the community and sharing the art journey with others but following you and reading comments made here give me a sense of belonging. 🌈🎨
I sure enjoy watching the way you paint I also like the idea of talking yourself up! I painted the other day and I want to tell you it was the first time I think I ever painted and actually felt Joy from it. The painting wasn't great but it was okay the best thing was I enjoyed myself. I mix colors on the paper instead of the palette that was fun! I so enjoy your style of painting and listening to things you say because it I'll make sense to me. You are a fine fine teacher and have a beautiful heart thank you!
Lol 😂, I’m laughing at myself because I love painting landscapes but when I attempted to draw just flowers, I felt so much like a beginner, beginner. I’m reading your book Kristy, and practicing lines and strokes at the same time. So enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you 😊
I love how you express yourself. Im brand new here. Water color virgin. Only painting less than a year with acrylic. I may become a watercolor person 😊
Kristy, I think the desire to paint pretty roses is present in so many of us. If you’re a lover of flowers 👍and you’re a lover of watercolors 👍 then you have probably wanted to be able to paint beautiful roses effortlessly. I’ve practiced to the point where I can paint a stylized rose in a couple of different ways or they sometimes come out looking like a camellia…those early spring shrub beauties, but I have felt a level of success. (And I do have the daisy and tulip down pretty good. ) But, to paint more (relatively) botanically correct roses and other more complex flowers is still pretty tricky for me.So much so that I may just resort to tracing so I can get on to actually painting. I have learned that I need to stay away from too much struggling over foundational drawings. Because if I do, then I will often get tired and discouraged and end up quitting. So it’s great that you’re teaching these basic simple steps to help beginner artists and even more advanced artists easy how-to tips with flower and petal shapes. Practice, practice, practice. Thanks!
Those are all so gorgeous and so different from each other! I have been trying so hard to learn how to paint a typical rose and it's not easy. I can make some beautiful and unique petals with your brushes, but I don't know where to drop in color or add some details! I need to paint more freely and not worry if they look like any one else's roses if I like them! I just paint to have fun! 😊
The thing I struggle with most about roses is getting mine look super huge and flat or super convexed which is more like a zinnia or a marigold. I'm all about the loose watercolor but still want the gist or spirit of the real thing. I also struggle with framing them within a floral composition. They either melt into the background in an unappealing way or stick out like a sore thumb. Thanks for sharing!
Oh-h Kristy... if I could just keep notes of all your funny 😁 sayings it would be a best seller and keep many from the serious doldrums!!! So fun....yes hookers green, such a funny name. Love this, my roses aren't great either, but will continue to practice. Great tips.
We gorge on!!!
Where is the best place to get my supplies I have some but I want to have like the pink tablet that you have forever will it be the best place to go
It depends on if you want to shop online or in person.
I dont find the 1/4" dagger. You said you dell it separately
Pansies make me crazy in trying to get them looking half way decent.
Oh yeah they are tricky!!! I think I have a few on my insta account @kristyyhepainter
The leaves!!!!!

What frustrates me is that my c’s look too much like actual c’s. I can’t seem to get them to look wonky & organic.
Vary your pressure as you create the c. You’ll see a big change :)
@@KristyRice thanks! I’ll try that 😊
