I'm Portuguese, and today was the first time I listened about this Portuguese company and they razors and brushes.
We are a small country but sometimes our best products reach first other countries then inside our own country.
This products are expensive but are top notch.
This is not the first time I see your videos, you are one of the few UA-camrs on wet shaving I really appreciate and enjoy see your videos, thanks.

    Hi Ken,
I received this razor this week and the Nodachi last week! I got them with both open and closed combs. I found them both very, very nice. The Nodachi is a lot more aggressive but the •63 Masamune is super smooth and still very efficient. Beautifully made and I find the weight of the •63 Masamune like you have here is just right. I too like a little bit of overhang of the blade. Without it, it is so difficult to get hold of the blade and the blade stick in if soapy. I took off 7 days growth really easily with a 2nd use Vikings sword blade. As for lathering....it's each to their own!
    Stay safe Sir!
    Dave from England. 😁😁.

That’s the razor that got me through my blood thinner year! It’s the -0.13 mm blade exposure and lock-tight blade control. Very kind to the face. Good to see you experience it for yourself, Ken. The brush looks nifty. I may just get me one.

    Great video Ken!
Just a FYI, Masamune is pronounced as Ma - Sah - Mu- Nay
Interesting to know that the boar on that brush doesn't smell, that means they had pre-treated it and washed it well.
And that smile when you did that first stroke!
If that is the default Masamune, its one of the most comfortable razors I own so, yeah, it feels great!
The Closed comb has a negative -0.13mm blade exposure on a 0.63gap, the open comb brings that to -0.10mm with a 0.73mm gap.
You can pair that default Masamune with the Nodachi cap for a true neutral 0.00mm blade exposure with that 0.63mm gap.
Or my personal favorite use the Masamue Cap with the Nodachi closed comb base plate for a negative -0.03mm blade exposure with a 0.90mm gap.
Incidentally, you can use a standard handle with the Nodachi Cap, the Masamune cap unfortunately requires the proprietary handle.

  • @Rood67

I'm impressed with the packaging. That quality of detail in paper and wax is a good indication to the attention put into their products.
Speaking of the cost, I wish you would do a video on that subject. What justifies the $50.00, $150.00, or more for a brush when one that is $19.00 works great and last for years? And razors pushing multi-hundreds of dollars instead of one that is around $40.00? I know in most products, you get what you pay for, but stainless steel is stainless, and CNC machining is the same. (Turn the metal, add threads, etc...)
Pre-shave, pre-shave, I hear you, Kevy, Geo... everyone speaks of pre-shave, but no one really take about it. So I started looking into them, and decided on straight coconut oil. Super slick, and gave me a wonderful shave. A pound jar for same or less than an ounce of pre-shave oil online.

A bit reminiscent of the Muhle brush (badger or synthetic (synth are really nice, different to all chinese brushes). And then there is the Muhle Rocca SS Version 4 razor....another fine instrument. Now regarding the skin, I always used sunblock and rashguards...BUT my Vit D levels were very low....had to take a lot of it....make sure you get that checked more now w the virus....you want to take D3! Be safe Cheers. Nice vid!

One nice thing about Poraso is that it does well in hard water. The "Latha" series from Barrister & Mann has similar hard water "chops."
I have friends in North & Mid Florida who complain about their more expensive soaps not lathering well. Just put a pinch of pure citric acid in your water.

What a fantastic brush and razor. Razor reminds me of my Timeless and I love it. You are exactly right about starting out with say a $30 razor and if you enjoy wet shaving, save up for a high end unit or hope to get it as a gift from a loving wife! I am going to have to order that brush. I love my boar rush but have been looking for a stainless steel handle one to have on the rack next to my Timeless stainless steel razor. Great shave and have you finished Ozark? How did you like it?? I will also suggest the movie Game Night to you. Take care!

If I were to choose between Semogue and Omega which one would you recommend that I should opt for?
PS. I have sensitive skin and is it true that boar brushes are scratchy ? Because scratchy bristles would further irritate my skin. Price wise Omega is cheaper in India.

    • @scottmichael3902
      @scottmichael3902 4 роки тому +1

I have both and the standard Semogue and the Omega are equal IMHO, the Semogue "Buyer's Club" is much better than both the Omega and the standard Semogue boar brush.
As far as "scratchy" once the tips of ANY boar brushes bristles start to fray, it will feel much softer. It takes 20-25 shaves for it to soften.

    • @kensurfs

Once you break a boar brush in it softens up. Bit are good in my opinion. Go for the least expensive👍💈💈

This razor has been getting rave reviews and it's in my wishlist. However, I stumbled across your review on the SMART HELIX Apollo Light.
After further research, I got one and imho, it's pretty much a RAD killer.
So, if you can cast your mind back to when you reviewed the Apollo, how would you compare its performance to the Tatara?

Good review and I always appreciated your insight. I'm thinking of trying a bore brush in the under $30 range... any suggestions Ken?

I have the open comb and use a feather blade. Very smooth shave. Try the feather next time.
