    “The reason I’m annoyed, is I like driving it so much that I’m putting miles on it … and that’s why I’m selling it “ 😂😂😂

    • @Rennthusiast

      I know it may not make sense but it’s 100% true for me based on the goals I had for this one.
      I drove it, figured out what I liked and didn’t like, then was able to break even on it.
      Had I kept adding miles I would have lost money that I wanted to put into the next car…
      Last week I ordered a 992 Carrera T and spec’d it exactly as I wanted to based on what I learned from this S.
      So, there is a method to the madness and is just how I like to enjoy the hobby. Strange? Perhaps but it works for me and I have fun sampling the cars as I proceed through the journey.

      @@Rennthusiast hey I get it. You’re a collector and enthusiast. Totally get it. I own 4 cars, but I tend to get an attachment/sentiment toward them if I really like them, to the point I just can’t let myself let them go. I also haven’t quite figured out how to sell them for a profit or break even , considering I love driving them so much and I do with every chance I get. I don’t buy them for monetary purposes; but the enjoyment they give me. I’ve always told myself “well, guess I need to make more money” when there is another model I am lusting for 😂.

    One of my biggest annoyances with the 991 and this generation of Porsche interior design is the number of blank buttons on the center console you get even with a high option spec. Don’t think that I’ve ever seen them all filled in even on press cars.

    I think you should try the 996….ideally a GT2 …but those are pricey and hard to come by. But it seems to me that that car may be the sweet spot in terms of performance, size and true analog clutch. The fried eggs also seem to be getting some love these days. Cheers.

    I had a black on black 991.2 targa 4S and what you described is very accurate. Still fantastic cars, but I felt the same about mine (other than it had pdk). Sold it and miss it, but you remind me why I sold it. I have found no car is perfect so I have a few that are fun in different ways to scratch the itches-manual/pdk, air cooled and small/water cooled and large…..great summary of 991.2.

    I will say the 991.1 sounds better at all times vs the 991.2 which has to be in sport or sport plus to sound decent. Just putting around doing daily things in normal mode, my 991.1 still sounds amazing

    I don’t quite agree with all of what you mentioned on the dislikes, but I do agree on how it can get under your skin without fully realising it. I sold mine which had PDK and regretted selling her after 2.5 yrs and 13k miles... Somehow, and this might sound ridiculous.. I liked it more than the manual 718 Spyder I had which followed it a few years later. I missed the 911’s rear weight bias and handling characteristics which somehow made it feel more special than the Boxster product. I also had the standard exhaust purely from a Looks perspective, but it was still surprisingly tuneful (which Nik Murray did allude to this in a video clip when he compared a standard exhaust with the sports upgrade exhaust. ). Given what the more exciting GT models offer, in retrospect, the regular S version fulfilled its brief perfectly.

    Probably the worst thing to ever happen to the color selection of any car has been reporting of the most popular colors. White, black, silver, and gray (BORING!). While those colors are fine (if you like them), the manufacturers and dealers pander to that limited selection thus making availability of more interesting colors all that more limited. Kind of like manual vs PDK. I will always prefer a nice Guards Red 911 with a manual over some bland (insert one of the above colors here) with an automatic any day of the week.

    I thought you were going to add the invisible engine to the list; as to the default non-sport mode, it is extremely annoying, but that's for emissions and at least for me, it helps make a 911 much less expensive to tax than pretty much any comparable sports car with their far higher CO2 ratings. The trick is to drive in Sports, of course.

    Totally disagree on the color. The reason Porsche has made so many Black 911’s is because people like it. Yes there are many people that say they wouldn’t own a Black car but there are many that love the color. I have two Black 911’s an ‘88 I bought new and a ‘19 GT3 Touring. The ‘88 has original paint and still looks great. And as far as mileage that’s the current problem with the market. Miles on a Porsche used to be a badge of honor. My ‘88 has 153k miles on it and I’m proud of every mile. This low mileage conversation is relatively new in the Porsche world. If someone is worried about devaluing their car perhaps they shouldn’t have bought it in the first place. As someone we all know has said “get out and drive”

    What was it that made you drive this so much when you owned it? Doesn’t seem like you liked it the best. Was it the most daily drivable? Was it the desire to preserve value on the other cars? Some other reason?

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  Рік тому +2

      It was so easy and comfortable to just jump into and roll, especially on road trips. I knew I would not keep it too long so I wanted to preserve the value. This was, in my mind, more like a “I want to rent this car to see what it’s like,” which I did.
      Now I know what I want - and don’t want - in a modern 911 “keeper,” so I have ordered a 992 Carrera T and spec’d it exactly the way I want it from a color and options standpoint.
      Might not make sense to some people but it makes sense to me and is the way I enjoy the hobby. A little weird? Maybe, but life is short…so do what you want 😄

    The reason most modern cars have "sport mode," is likely due to EPA regulations regarding emissions.
    "Sport mode," likely tunes the vehicle electronically to boost power, sacrificing fuel efficiency, thus being incompliant.
    It's an annoying fact, just like how all modern generations of cars are nearly 50% larger than their predecessor generations due to some ridiculous formula the EPA concocted about how efficient vehicles must be based on their track (the surface area covered by the wheelbase). That's why even "light-duty," trucks are about as large as "heavy-duty," trucks from a few decades ago. Sadly, the 911 has not been immune to this.

  • @bogdanpanek3481
    @bogdanpanek3481 Рік тому

    "manual adds to driver experience" say the masses. So go buy a brass era car with manual driver spark advance, hand crank start, hard shifting transmissions and hand actuated transmission brakes. You can explore their limits on public roads and stay within the speed limit. Win-win for everyone. They already have bazillion miles and were fully depreciated long before the oldest of us were born.
    On a more serious note, my biggest gripes with manuals is driving them in traffic and the tall gearing in 915 and G50 trannies. Nothing says driver engagement like a 45 minute drive in wine country and never leaving third gear.
    edit- my next car will be a manual 996.1, not a manual hater here.

  • @MrSchn3ll

    In my 991.2 and now my 992 the first thing I do it go to Sport mode, for the fun and sound but also turning off the auto start stop mode, that doesn't belong in a 911.
    The size is subjective but what does help is the rear axle steering to give it a smaller feel. My 991.2 didn't have it, my 992 does and I do like it and would spec it again.
    Manual is a must and the 992 is even better than the 991.2 - especially if you go with a T due to the shorter shift lever.
    As far as specialness, you need full leather - my 992 has it and it's a huge upgrade. Also sport seats are a must for me too. The T comes with some specialness baked in and that might be the answer to most of your concerns (clutch is still light though).
    My main negative for the 992 is the price, they are getting very expensive - I paid $84k for a used 2018 T with 5k miles in 2021. Sold it for $113k (sticker) and my 992 was for MSRP and was $143k... that hurt.
    Overall I much prefer the 992, save for the goofy door handles that are overly complex and the exhaust is a bit quiet but I hear that it does open up a bit after a couple thousand miles (I'm still in break-in).

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  Рік тому

      I actually just ordered a T last week. It’s slated for November delivery. I’m super excited. I ordered 18 way seats (yes I know it flies into he face of the intent of the T but I want comfort)…however, now I am a little worried that they might not be as comfortable as they sound. I’m going to try to find a 911 with 18 ways to try this weekend actually.
      Did you run 18 ways? If so, what are your thoughts?

    • @MrSchn3ll
      @MrSchn3ll Рік тому

      @@Rennthusiast You're going to love it. 18-ways should be fine so long as you don't go for the ventilated seat option (it adds a hard air bladder inside the seat bottom and makes the seats uncomfortable). I got the 4-ways and I am happy with them - I'm around 6' tall and 190lbs. but YMMV. I even got the back seats in my T (sacrilege I know but I wanted the added usability and could justify the 911 over the 718 that way 😛 )

    An old guy who was driving a gtr, dude was in his 60s, told me once "the hardest part of having nice sports cars is buying the first one". Then he went on to say that after your in the game you just watch your miles and take care of it until its time to use it as capital to get into the next one. He also said that you gotta stay active at it or you will end up with your forever car if it loses to much value.
    This conversation took place around 2014,the Nissan was a 2012.
