Tom Coughlin might be the most underrated Head Coach of the modern era. Two Super Bowl wins with the Giants against heavily favored Patriots' teams (one of which was 18-0 and being called the best NFL team in history). Plus, he took a brand new expansion team in Jacksonville and made them a contender within three years. They beat my Broncos in the playoffs when we went 13-3 and had home field advantage throughout the playoffs. That was in the Jags second year of existence. Great respect for Mr. Coughlin. He belongs in the Hall of Fame
This was the jets best chance to win a super bowl in recent memory, they had an excellent chance to win the AFC championship game in Denver, but turnovers did them in
Well, not every good team wins a Super Bowl, but I thought this Jets team was disciplined, tough, and had one of the league's best offenses & defenses.
@@corrbenbernsten4902 Jets couldn't run, too many fumbles, fluke plays, 2nd half wind...yet the Jets controlled the game up until early in the 3rd quarter.
I thought Vinny was outstanding in that game, outplayed Elway. That pass deep over the middle to EMC was a "ah heck" play. It was a bad omen from that play on. That 98 team was stacked on both sides. But the 98 team had a lot of promise
As a Giants fan I was angry with Parcells for leaving, and you see a lot of players went with him eventually. If he had stayed with the Giants he would have one at least 1-2 more Super Bowls. The team fell apart after the Super Bowl in 1990 and didn't recover until Coughlin came in 2004.

Had the Jets beaten the Lions in the ‘97 finale, they would have made the playoffs..the only time in NFL history, a team went from 1-15 to making the postseason…all hail The Big Tuna
This is arguably the best lineup the Jets ever had. It’s a shame the first game of the 1999 season Vinny ruptured his Achilles tendon and ended his season. They would’ve won the Super Bowl without a doubt
Not just him but also Crennell and Weis were on the Jets coaching staff, they later came with Belichick to the Pats. Several Jets players joined them in New England as well, Anthony Pleasant, Bryan Cox, Otis Smith etc
Second time I got to see the Jets make the playoffs. They played the Houston Oilers in 1991 in the wild card game losing 17-10. The next 6 years were tough until this amazing season. Stadium was crazy loud that day!
Its amazing cause that 1998 Denver team in many peoples view is one of the best top 10 teams of all time..The Jets gave them a scare..actually had lead at halftime..really only team in playoffs that gave Broncos had a scare..Dolphins got blown out 38-3 from start...Super Bowl Broncos won by 15 over Falcons..but to me game was not even that close.

One thing that Parcells did better than anyone is take a bad team and within a year or two had them in the playoffs. Did if with the Giants, Patriots, Cowboys, and executive the Dolphins.
And we say how tough the AFC is now. Just think, having a 12-4 record as the Jets did was not good enough for 1st place. Why? Because the Broncos were 14-2. Won their first 13 games, only for the NYG to upset them a few weeks prior. AFC with Elway & Marino as the QBs you had to go through. Still a great feat for Jets. Still recovering from the Broncos loss. But that divisional playoff win was great to see.

The other thing is that the Vikings should’ve finished with a perfect regular season that year. Never mind our 1st 2 seasons under Rex Ryan. Like I said, our 2nd season under Bill Parcells is the last time that we should’ve won the Super Bowl and the last time that we should’ve even made it to the Super Bowl.
