And it was the first time since 2000 where the teams that were in the Super Bowl the yr before went one and done (Rams and Titans).
And we saw it again the very next year with the teams that met in the Super Bowl less than a month after this game (Steelers and Packers). 2011 was the last time we saw that happen.

Maybe...but it wasn't their QB's fault they were down 24-3 at halftime in the AFC Championship. The defense let them down, especially at the end when they needed to get off the field in the 4th. Sanchez had a better game than Roethlisberger in the title game. If they get even an average 1st half from their D, they reach the SB.

Tomlin showed balls of steel on final drive, twice throwing on 3rd down and converting first downs to end the game. Sexy Rexy's scheme changed the game; Bellichik now borrows heavily. Its so much fun to try and guess presnap: WHO are the 4-5 pass rushers? It's 3-4 base 2-4 Nickel ; and usually that kind of defense sends 4 by sending 1 LB in 3-4 and both in 2-4. Rex sent 4 but they might be a safety, 2 inside LBs, only one D lineman. And they're coming from unexpected directions. 2 OL are blocking nobody while a RB has a Safety and looping DLineman he's supposed to block.

The Jets came close; what often happens to these top defense and run game contenders is the QB has a crazy stretch of playing the best they ever have at the perfect time. The Jets had this happen vs the Colts 2010, and other postseason games. 2007,,2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens, Heck even 2017 Nick Foles. This is an illusion, an outlier, every QB starting 4 or more years has outliers of great and abysmal play due to luck and a great game plan outsmarting the D coordinator.

Things would’ve changed had the Colts won this game, but no way Manning was beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh, and I think the Patriots were not gonna let the Ravens beat them 2 years in a row, and then I think the Patriots would’ve beaten the Steelers in the AFC Championship and we could’ve had a Brady-Rodgers Super Bowl

    • @finchborat

And as a Patriots fan, if we had made it past the Divisional Round (regardless if it was the Jets or Ravens), we would've lost to Rodgers and the Packers. We barely beat them in the regular season and Rodgers was out for that game.
It sucked losing to the Jets, but in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise. We were spared from bigger heartbreak.
Also, had the Colts won and the Ravens came to Foxboro, it would've been the 2nd of 4 straight playoffs meetings between the Pats and Ravens. Would've had 5 playoff matchups in 6 seasons if there was a playoff matchup in 2010.

I'm a Patriots fan and I felt Caldwell was overrated from the get go. Ultimately (and I felt this way at the time), Peyton was the real HC of the Colts in '09 and he was the real reason they went to the Super Bowl that yr.
And had the Colts not let the Saints come back and they go on to win Super Bowl 44, Caldwell would be remembered the same way Seifert is remembered regarding the '89 49ers, Switzer regarding the '95 Cowboys, and in the eyes of some, Gruden regarding the '02 Bucs: Winning with the players from the previous HC.
I predicted it before the season and I was right about us seeing how Caldwell really was as a HC in 2010. And then we REALLY saw how he was as a HC in 2011 as the Colts completely collapsed without Manning and weren't prepared at all if he went down.
