True Kit Testing Propellers What's in a Prop?

  • In this video we take the True Kit Discovery out with a Suzuki DF6 and a Mercury 9.9LW and test them with a variety of propellers. Props make a much bigger difference to boat performance than a lot of people realise and there are different areas of performance that you can target with different props. Diameter, pitch, blade area, rake, cup, shape... so many options. Your engine will come with a standard prop but what about the aftermarket prop options?

    Something else you can do to help the all around performance is extend the ventilation plate area. Just cut out a piece of aluminum the same width as the vent plate and extend it 4 to 6''aft. In this way you are in affectively creating a trim tab stabilizer without creating additional drag. Also you can hammer in a small amount of cup to the outer edge of the prop to minimize prop slip.

      31km/hr which is around 20mph. On my 330 with 9.8 tohatsu I get about 20 ok stock prop. Havent done testing of the cupped solas, that's coming.

    • @TRUEKITINFLATABLES
      @TRUEKITINFLATABLES  3 роки тому +1

      That's correct. Top speed was 31kph. There are prop shapes that could probably give you a bit more top end if you were racing it with a lightish load

    Hi, researching getting into a 330, wondering if a long leg (20") would be OK, better than the recommended short, get the prop lower in the water, less cav etc, due to thru-flow between hulls?
    Whilst its cool watchn the puppy, rear camera view was good, could see the wake & spray. Merc sounded like she needed a carb service.

    • @TRUEKITINFLATABLES
      @TRUEKITINFLATABLES  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi there. You are actually better getting the prop/leg higher for less water disturbance. We recommend short shaft, a Permatrim and a cupped prop as the best combination for most lightweight dinghies

      He got it to plane with a 6hp 4 stroke. The Tohatsu weighs very similar and has more grunt so I'd say no issues planing

  • @davecox900

    The 6hp would be good with a S/S prop a bit more money but give better performance

    6hp the dog was further forward obviously quicker acceleration 😂.
    Also the most important thing is for the prop to hit maximum RPM the information we actually need. I have the 6hp stock prop 3.3m 37kg sib 5500rpm.
    So i cut it down sharpened it now 5900 15.1 knots from 14.4 before.
