Daryl, What a nice surprise a mid- week video. I love the way the railways shunt the these very long Inter-modal trains around. As well as being stopped and performing brake test etc. the stack train that just arrived will have a complete inspection before being given the all clear to proceed. The average down time can be 90 mins. to 2 1/2 hrs.. Sometimes longer and even longer again if a loco has blown a Turbo-charger and the train has limped into the Intermodal Yard. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Daryl, these videos that you are now doing are excellent. All the previous months prior to retirement were an appetizer to the narration that you are now doing. The videos have always been excellent but, hearing the purpose makes your layout even more interesting seeing how close you have followed the prototype showing what has been important to you in building it. Very well planned and executed. Looking forward to your future installments. Tom
Daryl, your layout is amazing! You have a way to bring out the full potential of N scale. Every time I watch one of your videos, I regret switching scales!!! Please keep these operation videos coming!
Another great video of this amazing layout. Great to see someone run n scale trains at more prototypical speeds. Enjoyed the description of your operations. Global One is coming along nicely, I see the new fencing being installed. Thx for sharing Daryl
This is extremely interesting to a chap building a UP (HO) pike in Scotland as visiting the real thing is a little tricky ! My pike is set on the LASL (visible portion nroth of the Las Vegas strip to Apex) but many things UP are UP all over. Great work, Daryl - an inspiration for sure !
that was a great layout tour. i love following a train through the job, seeing what the operations of it all are. just awesome to look at, and the scenery is so well done and blended.
Love your layout. One thing that don't look prototypical to me. Your intermodal containers are always grouped together with the same shipping carriers. If you look at any intermodal train you will see that the consist might have two or three the same but most containers are mixed. One exception might be J B Hunt who sometimes has 90% of a trains containers.
Good observation. Main reason I have them grouped is that they are purchased that way. I'll have to look at regrouping them. However, just like JB Hunt on the BNSF, the UP trains that I observed while living in Rochelle for 17 years is that there were lots of grouping of Pacer, KLine, Hub Groups, APL, etc.
Always great to see the layout! I'm excited for more operations videos. I was also wondering if you have any plans (or desire?) to add the Canadian Pacific crossing with the UP in Clinton? Even as an unpowered track, it seems like a pretty important detail for that city.
@@thomasneumiller2858 I did see that trackage. However, when I was there it appeared to be a small regional line. The motive power used on the trackage was not CP. I don't remember what it was. I'll have to take a look at my pictures from Clinton.
Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision Depending on how long ago you visited, it could have been back when the line was owned by Iowa Chicago and Eastern, a former DM&E affiliate, before both were purchased by CP. it’s definitely CP now! There’s a lot of good videos of the area (and other parts of northern Illinois and eastern Iowa) on a UA-cam channel by Jeff Toft.
@@thomasneumiller2858 The last time I was there was November 2011. It was the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern. I may be able to put the track in and have the line run behind some trees. Its not a crossing, but just a turnout. Maybe park a IC&E loco on the tracks.
We are both wrong. They are Fox Valley ES44AC. You can tell they are Fox Valley by the safety stripes painted on the steps. Kato does not include that detail on their locomotives.
Hi Daryl, what couplers do you use, back 14 years ago when i sold my HO layout KDs were the go to, now there seems to be so many different makes, just bought my first N loco a Kato ES 44 AC, so much to learn again lol
Mostly Micro Trains (N scale Kadee). However, there are other brands mixed in. I do not change out other brands unless they cause problems. Mostly, they are compatible.
The Fox River is in the Suburbs. The wall between Wheaton and Rochelle basically divides the layout between the suburbs and north central IL. The river is just outside of Rochelle, not just outside of Wheaton. The Rock River is a north central IL river and more appropriate for this location.
Is there a reason you perfectly block your containers? At G3, did you perform a primary or secondary securement on the train when you pulled the power off? Take a look at DigcomDesigns containers, $5.95 for a pdf versus $8-$10 a piece for the plastic ones. For N Scale, the Digcom containers look great and you have a huge variety. www.digcomdesigns.com Your 10 minutes, in reality could be hours, depending on how long the Class 1 Air Test takes. Good thing you backed behind the signal (400 feet) to wait for the dispatcher to light you up. Great looking layout, blown away by your CTC system
Its just been my experience while train watching in Rochelle over the 17 years we lived there that containers seemed to ship in groups. There are a few well cars sets with a mixture of containers. I've seen the Digcom containers. They are definitely a good option. Good idea about waiting for securement of the train before pulling off power. The 10 minutes simulates the delay. I'm not waiting hours, I want to run trains :) !
Sorry but I think Matt who owns Fox Valley would tell you that you are wrong. Yes they work together to secure contracts with the Chinese suppliers but they are separate companies. 😆

Looks great! I like the way you switched the entrance and exit for Global 3. It makes a lot more sense now. Looking forward to more updates!
A wonderful layout and video, Daryl. It is good to see N scale with its best foot forward. Looking good!
Great stuff. That trailer/crane is called a Piggy Packer I believe. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, buddy. Wonderful time viewing the efforts. 🤗
Extremely interesting and so enjoyable to watch. The 30 minutes felt like 5. Love the narration as well.
Thanks!

Great job!! Excellent video
GE ES4400DC or AC
Man, I miss this layout. Can't wait for the HO to be done tho.
Yes, I just watched a video of it the other day.
Also, is there a track diagram? Want to see track plan for the yard you showed in video.
There is an unfinished track plan at genevasub.blogspot.com

I did not note the CP crossing when I was researching Clinton. How close is the crossing to the river?
The point where the two lines converge after the bridge is at coordinates (41.8364539, -90.1876872).

Nice video. Kato ES44 tho I think
Nope, Fox Valley ES44AC. I had it wrong as a Fox Valley SD70ACe
Dude, that was amazing. No wonder you gave a big SIGH! 😂
Very nice layout. But those are Kato CN es44ac units not FMV sd70ace's

What are your techniques for getting ME track straight?
Just fiddle with it until its straight. Sorry I don;t have a secret "trick" :)

@@EvanstonSub Thank you Sir, thats good to hear, superb layout you have there, thank you for showing
im know expert but cn runs intermodel trains as q like Q119
Thanks for the heads up.. I'll have to look that up.
why call what would be the Fox river the rock?

Manufacturer of the job/office trailer at Proviso ? Or scratchbuilt ? Always look forward to updates.
Scratch
@@EvanstonSub Looks good ! I suggested these to DigCom Designs as a cardstock model
Those are not sd70ACes. Those look like GEs
Those arent SD70ACes those are ES44s

They look like GE's to me????? GE ES44ac.But it's your RR and you can call them what you want. LOL
to be specific they are Intermountain ES44ac's lol
