- Hi everyone, thank you for 10:07 of your time. In this video is MEDION laptop that I got it free. ( I got some other tech as well but that is going to be in the next video ). The laptop is in amazing great shape, it's very rare to see something like thins nowadays. current specs are AMD CPU, 1GB DDR2 RAM and 100GB IDE disk. In general this machine is not meeting today standards but it's great to play many older games and listen to music in a classic way.

For clarification, this is Turion 64 Socket 754 based machine. Meaning it has only support for single core Turion 64's, DDR1 RAM up to 2GB and most of the time single channel only, mPCI WiFi and IDE hard drive. came inbetween Pentium M and Core duo laptops so it makes sense.
you could use an ide to msata for older systems like this, bit of a speed boost, and cheap & easy to replace!
The mSATA SSD is about £15-£20 on its own for 128GB variant, then another £10 for the adapter... not worth it on some low spec older laptops.
Adapter gives no speed boost, if it's not causing issues of its own. mSATA drive would be bottlenecked to IDE speeds. Finding a working 2.5" IDE would be easier
@TheSpotify95 fair point, u can get them as low as 64gb, was mainly pointing it out for the sake of anyone who wanted a more reliable/long term drive solution, if u see what I mean
@xe8905 on my thinkpad t43 (also locked at ide speeds) I noticed significant increase in responsivenes/load times, so I'm my personal experience that's worth the investment

Watching this video brings back memories and seeing those games which I haven't finished playing until now, makes me wanna install and play them again
I had something similar, managed to install Win7 on it, worked great, and after a while I managed to upgrade it to Win10 which was a surprise. It was still very functional as Win10 but a bit slower than when it had Win7 on it. The laptop was from 2009 I believe, had an Atom 1 or 2 cores cpu, 160gb ide drive, 2gb ddr2 ram (upgraded from 1gb originally). I only used it for web/music/movies/retro games.
Same, Had a Acer Travelmate 4330 with 1 gigs ddr2 ram Celeron 900 and 160gb HDD. Then I upgrade to core 2 duo t6400 with 4gb DDR2 RAM and SATA Supported 120GB SSD (Originally system had support for SATA II, Not IDE port). Then I Installed Windows 10
Since 2008-2009 many laptop with Intel core duo can run 10 (even 11) with basic functionality. At least for better on 10 using x86 type, build 1809 (i think?) with 4 GB Extended PAE
Nice, glad to hear that you managed to get this working again! I'm all for saving old devices and getting them working again, so keep up the good work!
And yes - always check the thermal system to ensure that the CPU doesn't cook itself. Arctic MX-4 isn't expensive (or you could get other thermal paste, even MX-2).

Great work as always. You can get ide to sata adapter so you can put an ssd inside. Also the gpu thermal paste might be old and crusty as well.
You have to use IDE to mSATA adapter, because going to a normal SATA port and using a SATA SSD, it won't fit into the space provided. These laptops were only designed to be used with IDE disks.

Great job! personaly i dont lose time with computers older than win7 minimum dual core duo ... and 4gb of ram... to 8gb... and that IDE omg .. whatching this video brings me to the past wen we waith for hours to install the XP !!! Congratulations Andrew you have patience to make it work again.. and you win some extra money with the views and likes ... i did like your work as always .. but personally i dont waste money or time with computers older than win 7 ... but i apreciate to see your videos like this one to relax and enjoy it .

Used to have this Turion64 x2 laptop and it’s save me for a deadline if rendering my Cinema 4D as my PowerMac G4 CPU was doomed 😅
back at time FPS stood for First person shooter and TPS for third person shooter 😄 there was no frame limitation problem unlike today's era

I love this model, if you ever want to sell me this i would want to add it to my collection. I have dozens of this model laptops mainly Packard Bell ( R3400 ) the same laptop and some Benq en Medion models

You say 100 GB is not much, but I remember the days I daily used a single core CPU laptop (Fujitsu E8010 - still have it) with 512 MB of memory and a 40 GB disk and that was plenty enough. I used to play GTA SA on it, and even did some drawing with older versions of Autocad.
Older versions of programs saved much smaller files too, I remember needing a floppy disk for elementary school and having like 20 or 30+ word//excel//powerpoint documents saved to it back when there was only microsoft office 2003//2007 and now a single excel file is like 50KBytes at minimum
and xp starter edition is super limited

A 30gb SSD IDE hard disk exists. I have one. Best choice for old laptop.
I had few a long ago, but I gave it, now I have only these mechanical disks :D
It's compatible with an sd card adapter, which works better than you think.

Many people just threw old tech, but instead I pick up. Something that is working or can be repaired I leave it but something is recycling, I do not recycle but I know some guys that are recycling electronics, sometimes even they will bring me some spare parts
