Hey Cat, i'm only 13 and appreciate you so much for making these kinds of videos as I haven't had tons of experience with my period. You feel like an older sister to me thank you for making youtube videos xx
Same here, about the first two things you said, my was regulated at first and now it's not so it doesn't come at the same time every month and I keep getting confused when it will come...
I think tampons aren't too painful unless they are put in at the wrong angle. Diva cups are more painful. I remember the first time trying the cup, two days in I had to switch to pads because I was sore from the cup.
People have definitely died from toxic shock syndrome and it's honestly the main reason why I don't like wearing tampons. To me they're much more confortable than pads and I have never had any problems wearing them but I'm just too paranoid.
SteamyApplePie Try menstrual cups, there's not the risk like there is with tampons. The youtuber PreciousStarPads talks about them in a down to earth way.
i love that there are people willing to have these conversations for all the young girls out there! keep it up cat! im in my twenties now, but i know when i was younger i would have loved to have someone be so open about these topics!
"Periods are nothing to be embarrassed about" YES thank you finally someone talks about this I am gonna make my mom watch this video she really needs to be a bit more aware
wait are you a guy that is commenting about periods!!! Dude you don't even know, sorry not trying to judge but why are you watching this in the first place no offense
It just makes me so happy that people like you on youtube are changing the way society has made us to be ashamed of our bodies and left us so uneducated.
you have perfect timing with this video because I just got my period over a week early and consequently destroyed my panties. ugh. super glad it's Saturday and I was only chilling on my couch and not at work or something... Also, I'm 29, and I still don't like tampons much. it's a thing of personal preferences, just use whatever is most comfortable or convenient for you! :)
I am 28 and have tried using a tampon maybe 5 times throughout my life. I hated it every time. When I was younger my friends told me, maybe I have to wait till I've had sex. But it hasn't really gotten better. The last time I've tried it it was ok going in, cause I had heavy flow and it felt only a bit uncomfortable having it inside, but it hurt a lot getting it back out. I just don't like them. I have always worn pads. I get that it is less socially acceptable but I don't care. I am feeling less confident about asking an other girl for a pad than if I'd be asking her for a tampon, but that is not enough reason for me to go through that torture. Everyone's different. I just can't stand it :)
I agree! Sometimes when girls at school ask me for a tampon and I instead offer a pad they give me dirty looks, or straight up say they don't use them cause they think they're disgusting. Sad we still have to deal with things like this. Girls should be supporting each other no matter what.
Really? I didn't know it was a thing that pads were socially unacceptable. I actually use both tampons and a pad at the same time to prevent bleeding through. Anyone that looks down on a woman for wearing a pad is crazy because I'd much rather that then ruining another pair of underwear.
31 and never used a tampon. I just don't think it's natural, and I worry about the possible negative effects. I certainly don't judge those who do, but they're not for me. just make sure you change your pad often enough if you use them!
As I'm probably older then most viewers (in my mid twenties) I wish someone had given me the option of a menstrual cup a lot sooner. It has changed my relationship with my period entirely which like you said- acceptance is important. and even though I'm sitting here with a hot water bottle to help battle the cramps i feel a lot more comfortable with my what my body can do then i ever have before. I think its great that you take the time to talk about these things with your young viewers, it makes all the difference.
Oh my gosh! This video is awesome! (No, but seriously). I actually had my question addressed in this video and it helped me a lot. I've been given advice on sticking with pads or trying tampons, etc. from my mom, but, y'know, moms have to tell you to do what's comfortable. Everyone else I've talked to has been pushy about it and it means a lot coming from you, as someone I look up to, that it's best to do what makes you comfortable. Also, it's great that you aren't afraid to talk about things like this! It makes me feel comfortable and safe, and I'm sure many others, too. Keep up the amazing videos!
i love this! personally, i dont really have any questions or concerns about my period, but i really enjoyed this video! it made me happy for your other viewers who have had these questions!
So I got my period when I was 12 and I’m 13 now. At first I used pads but I don’t like how they feel like I’m wearing a diaper so I switched to tampons last month and putting it in, it hurt so bad and it felt like I couldn’t walk. I used small ones because I have a light flow but it still hurt and yeah
Evallyn....I felt the same so try using an applicator tampon which will help insert it to the correct length Also.....my question is ....does anyone else feel pain while removing even after it's in for more than 12 hours?
I've never had a proper opportunity to say this but I am so terrified of ever having to use a tampon, sticking anything up 'there' seems so horrifying. Yes, I haven't had my period yet! No, I am not looking forward to it! I think I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable and use a pad, never ever EVER will I use a tampon.
Honestly I prefer tampons and if you want to wear them don't be scared to, you can't even feel them if you put them up right and you will only ever bleed through if you wear them too long or if you are a heavy bleeder and get the wrong ones. :P
haha don't worry about being graphic, Cat! It's great advice and super helpful to young girls who may not have that guidance that they need. Also, You are right, periods are a natural part of our lives and we shouldn't have to feel ashamed about it!
Thanks Cat! And birth control has really helped with my symptoms. I would always vomit from the pain but the pill eliminated that and I barely get cramps anymore!🙂
Helpful hint to anyone bleeding through... I found myself that I had a heavier period than most and used to only use pads. What would happen is that I would be sitting in a class or lecture for an hour or so and then when I stand up i have that "oh shit" moment where I can feel that I've bleed through. Now I use both tampons (super for when i do have a heavier period) and I wear a pad as well because more often then not a little bit gets past the tampon. Now I don't have the problem of bleeding through because the tampon catches the most of it and the pad is an extra layer of protection.
sure get comfortable with the idea that you have a period but I can't be bothered cleaning stains off my pants when I have a way of preventing it in the first place :)
It hurts so much when I pull a tampon out. I know it is not because the tampon is still dry because it is soaked when I take it out. It is super easy to put in and I put it as far up as I can so I can’t feel it. I just use pads cause I can’t stand the pain of taking them out.
The first time I actually used a tampon (and last) I couldn't get it out, and I ended up sitting in a bathtub for hours crying because it hurt so much everytime I tried to get it out. Eventually my mom was like "look I need to go to work we're either getting this out now or going to the emergency room", and she bent me over and ripped it out and I have never been in so much pain as I had been there. I can't remember the pain though, but it was bad... Really bad...
If anyone got worried when Cat said that birth control (the ones with hormones or copper, not condoms & stuff like that) makes you infertile - it's only when you take/use them. When you stop taking/using them, you should be fertile again once your body's hormones and stuff like that have balanced out again, which could take a few months. Btw; awesome video Cat! =)))
i started my first ever period this july, then while i was still on it i went from pads to tampons like that. if youre afraid its not that bad! only youre first time will be hard.
Oh my god this video is awesome. Also Cat, have you ever done any research on menstrual cups? they are environmentally friendly and don't have any health risks. You can also wear them for up to 12 hours at a time, I personally love them.
Jess'sShadows Yessss, menstrual cups are so much easier to use, for anyone interested, you should check out the youtuber PreciousStarPads, she explains everything about them and it's so useful.
I started using a menstrual cup and I love it. My cramps aren't as bad and I feel like I don't have to worry as much. At the beginning when I first started using it I did have some problems but after a few cycles I got better at inserting it and now I'm so much better.
Melanie Yoder So have I, it's soooo much better. I would recommend menstrual cups to everyone, I know the youtuber PreciousStarPads talks about them in a really down to earth way, for anyone wanting to make their life a hell of a lot easier.
I have to add that tampons can hurt if your vagina is dry which usually only happens when you change tampons and the tampon has soaked up all the moistness as well as the blood. This happens to me when my period is ending and my flow is lighter. Otherwise they really shouldn't hurt, plus you're in control of how you insert it, so do what's most comfortable.
For the first few years of getting my period I hated it! I felt like I was being punished and I hated being a woman so much. It felt like the dread would never end. Now I'm much happier and I forget about my period so much even when I'm on it.
Okay this video is sooo important, and honestly, I loveeee talking about my period, especially with guys cause the reactions are priceless. And it's totally my favourite subject to talk about from a feminist view, cause all the taboo and lack of knowledge due to only women (people with uterus, but majority are women) having it. I mean if it were a thing men had, oh we'd know all about it. Anyway can I just say how much I hate scented pads? Like for a while I couldn't find non-scented nightpads and I hated it. Also, I'm so mad that tampons literally can be toxic, it's not enough that everyone with a functioning uterus already has to deal with blood and most probably period cramps, we can also die thanks to using tampons. And now to my period woho, but seriously, I'm on the pill cause I have so much period cramps, I also have prescription pain killers aaand this pills that makes the heavy flow lighter so that I don't bleed as much as I would otherwise. Gotta love having a uterus.. But still, this video is sososo important, and it shows that we have to be even more open with this kind of stuff.
thank you so much for this, i'm a very shy, closed off person. I'm only 14 and my periods started when I was 11. My mum left when I was 8, and I am the eldest daughter, plus, my younger sister by a year still hasn't gotten hers (lucky). I don't like talking to like my grandmother about this. I don't have any aunts or older female figures. so thanks!
fertility tracking devices can be used to monitor your fertility throughout your cycle. Some are also supposedly now as effective as birth control methods offered by your doctor if you abstain from sex on the high risk days (e.g. the lady comp device). so they could be used both to prevent pregnancy and to increase the chance of a succesful planned pregnancy. I've never used one personally so please do your own research though! There's always a risk of pregnancy from any contraceptive method.
I'm on my period right now and I'm 13. I first got my period when I was 10 in fourth grade and I remember first wearing a tampon because I was going swimming. My older sister was trying to help me through the locked bathroom door, but I didn't quite understand her, so I had to look up tons of visual tutorials on how to put one in on my mini iPad, and at first it hurt so I had to slowly but firmly push it deeply inside me. It was gross because meanwhile I was getting blood on my fingers and I felt weird walking afterwards, I felt the need to like penguin waddle but I soon got over it. I swam happily with my tampon for a good two hours until I remember that my sister told me to take it out every now and then because I could get like you said, shocks and infections so when I went to change, it was so difficult to get out. I guess it was really soaked with blood and water and it hurt even more trying to get it out than trying to put it in. Again, I had to slowly but firmly pull it out and when I did I felt so relieved that it didn't get stuck. When I put a new tampon in, it was much easier (feels weird to say but there was now enough room to put the tampon in since it uh, "stretched"). I only wear tampons when I need to go swimming now. Pads help me more and I feel fine, but in conclusion awesome video I enjoyed it greatly. This is the first video I have watched of yours and I'm going to subscribe 👍 If you are still reading this hi 💩
you did talk about getting a tampon stuck inside you catrific I dont know how long ago it was but I totally remember you doing a video telling the story.
I'm glad I watched this cause the one part I really paid attention to was about tampons, cause I am thirteen and my friends who have all had their periods as well have told me that they use tampons cause their more comfortable, and I have stuck to pads cause I haven't really been told how to use a tampon and I'm but if a awkward teen so it's not something I would ask my sisters or mum, so I've looked it up on google and tried it but it hurt, I while watching this I've realised that I did what cat said, with not putting it in all the way. so this is like and extra puberty class type thing other then what I have gotten in school.
Emma Lorraine I don't think it will . (Well , the pad part will) Once you get your period , just know that you should NEVER try wearing tampons . They will hurt SOOO much . So ALWAYS wear pads.
I have TMJ (jaw issue) and it seems to get worse when I start my period, my Dentist/TMJ dentist recommend I should try going on Birth Control, and helps for Migraines etc. so I hope it's works.
although I completely understand using pads, I'm so glad I can use tampons now. pads were so uncomfortable for me I literally didn't want to walk it felt so weird to me and I literally wanted to cry it felt horrible. But but I was finally able to put in tampons and my periods don't bother me anymore!! I'm so glad lmao
Hi Cat, I'm so happy you're always so brave and forward with the topics of your videos! This is something I wish I could have talked to someone when I was young and got my period. For the sake of being as accurate as possible, I'd like to add to the first question about birth control/the pill! There are many forms of birth control (= preventing pregnancy), one of which is the pill. It works either by 1) stopping ovulation, eg the releasing of an egg, so fertilization can't happen or in some cases by 2) changing the lining in the uterus so the egg can't cling on - or the egg won't be "implanted". More on Planned Parenthood's website: www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control/birth-control-pill What you said about the pill helping with periods is spot on! With me, it also helped with acne and period pains.
a tip for putting in a tampon, is leaning back while you’re sitting down. it causes your legs to spread wider, allowing the tampon to enter your vagina with ease. it will make it less painful or almost painless, basically.
I also found out through trial and error that if your period isn't heavy enough the tampon does not want to go in and it hurts. ya gotta be flowing yo!
as a biologist, you've not quite explained what the pill does. While I'm glad you're creating an open discussion about a difficult topic, it makes me a little uncomfortable about the misinformation
my period just ended for last month but hasn't begun yet for this month. and yes I haven't worn a tampon in my life I do prefer pads PS I do have my reason for not wearing tampons one being what cat talked about in this video.
Uhm... Not to scare anyone further, but I have definitely had tampon strings disappear on me. I don't know how, but a few times the string has just wiggled its way up there. I eventually found it again, but just a heads up :/
I just turned 12 and I started my period when I just turned a 11 and have used pads for so long and still do but the thing u should I have to go on a cruise in a couple of weeks and that is the week I'm supposed to be on my period so I'm just going to have to try tampons I'm scared if anybody has some advice plz tell me I'm scared thx😜
People can definitely die from TSS. Its basically a huge infection and some people are not able to recover if they don't seek medical care early on. Its a pretty scary situation, I go for a menstrual cup for the convenience of a tampon with the safety of a pad lol. Also birth control doesnt make your eggs infertile, it makes you infertile (if that makes sense.) The hormones in birth control prevent ovulation, thicken the mucus in the cervix, and thins the uterine lining so it is hard for an egg to stick and be fertilized. Our bodies only have a certain number of eggs, we dont produce any more (unlike sperm which are constantly being reproduced) Making all of our eggs infertile would consist of chemically killing all eggs, preventing pregnancy indefinitely, rather than causing other processes in the reproductive system that decrease the likelyhood of fertilization.
like if you're watching this while on your period
catrific how did I just click on this video and see this right away
yep
catrific :( *raises hand*
Yes, sadly
catrific my first period 😫😫😫
Hey Cat, i'm only 13 and appreciate you so much for making these kinds of videos as I haven't had tons of experience with my period. You feel like an older sister to me thank you for making youtube videos xx
Same here, about the first two things you said, my was regulated at first and now it's not so it doesn't come at the same time every month and I keep getting confused when it will come...

lol I got my period 10 min before this video was uploaded 😂
Jess kater honestly me 😂

Might as well use period cups then?
It is said to be the best option, yes.
SteamyApplePie Try menstrual cups, there's not the risk like there is with tampons. The youtuber PreciousStarPads talks about them in a down to earth way.
tss is extremely rare but u r right it is deadly but it should be ok if you use one
i love that there are people willing to have these conversations for all the young girls out there! keep it up cat! im in my twenties now, but i know when i was younger i would have loved to have someone be so open about these topics!
never stop educating cat. don't let anyone tell you you're talking about this way too much. we need this especially now.
"Periods are nothing to be embarrassed about" YES thank you finally someone talks about this
I am gonna make my mom watch this video she really needs to be a bit more aware
wait are you a guy that is commenting about periods!!! Dude you don't even know, sorry not trying to judge but why are you watching this in the first place no offense
i saw this and was like "wow im on my period rn how convenient thank you cat"
Nuggeturally me too😂
the ad before this was about heavy periods man the spons is getting more sneaky these days
It just makes me so happy that people like you on youtube are changing the way society has made us to be ashamed of our bodies and left us so uneducated.

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT OUR PERIOD !! not enough people talk about it. i hateeee that it's somewhat of a taboo subject.

is it weird that the exact time that this video came out I started my period? 😂
Thank you for making such wonderful videos! I just started watching them, and they really help me cope and analyze my life. Have a great day!
Thanks Cat!
And birth control has really helped with my symptoms. I would always vomit from the pain but the pill eliminated that and I barely get cramps anymore!🙂

"i'm gonna say no on dying because that i don't know for sure" lmao i love her
this video is awesome. seriously though you deserves millions of subs.
I went to change my pad to be seeing straight blood come out of my private part. Let me just tell you, IT WAS NOT FUN
It hurts so much when I pull a tampon out. I know it is not because the tampon is still dry because it is soaked when I take it out. It is super easy to put in and I put it as far up as I can so I can’t feel it. I just use pads cause I can’t stand the pain of taking them out.

Dakota Cook yeah that's how I feel about them. The first month it hurt a lot more than now because my body's used to it now
Is that an object show character in the thumbnail?!? 😂 good vid tho!!!!

Do you know menstrual cups? They are a healthy, ecologic and cheap alternative to tampons. I just love them because they are so much easier to use!
Amelie Pe I have used them and it was a nightmare. It might be because it to heavy. I am going to stick to tampons.
Really? Maybe it was the wrong size...
Not it wasn't I am just going to stick to tampons.
I started using a menstrual cup and I love it. My cramps aren't as bad and I feel like I don't have to worry as much. At the beginning when I first started using it I did have some problems but after a few cycles I got better at inserting it and now I'm so much better.

Your makeup is really nice in this video🖤I hate periods 😩
I just put one in and it hurts I'm walking wonky 💀
Okay, you look like Wednesday Addams in this video and I'm honestly living for it.
My period is coming up soon and I was very scared for all that stuff and this really helped me thank you this video is awesome

Omg this video is awesome... No seriously it is so helpful for younger girls. And even I learned something, and I'm an adult.
Loved this video, Cat! You're amazing 😘
This video is awesome. Seriously though great video Cat.
thank you so much for this, i'm a very shy, closed off person.
There's always a risk of pregnancy from any contraceptive method.
omg this video is awesome!! i love when you make videos about womenly topics lol
This is the first video I have watched of yours and I'm going to subscribe 👍
If you are still reading this hi 💩
Thinking about putting in a tampon makes me cringe so bad.
p.s. I'm a girl using my dad's account.

This video was so helpful! Thank you so much!!🖤🖤
I thought the description said "Bitch control" 😂😂 I was gonna say, "where can I get that?" lmao
oh my glasses, this video is awesome.
Thanks so much for answering my question it really helped ❤❤
when i walk its pretty uncomfy.. idk
you did talk about getting a tampon stuck inside you catrific I dont know how long ago it was but I totally remember you doing a video telling the story.
I needed this💜
I'm glad I watched this cause the one part I really paid attention to was about tampons, cause I am thirteen and my friends who have all had their periods as well have told me that they use tampons cause their more comfortable, and I have stuck to pads cause I haven't really been told how to use a tampon and I'm but if a awkward teen so it's not something I would ask my sisters or mum, so I've looked it up on google and tried it but it hurt, I while watching this I've realised that I did what cat said, with not putting it in all the way. so this is like and extra puberty class type thing other then what I have gotten in school.
Oh my gosh, I think when I get my period this is really going to help me
Emma Lorraine
I don't think it will .
(Well , the pad part will)
Once you get your period , just know that you should NEVER try wearing tampons .
They will hurt SOOO much .
So ALWAYS wear pads.
I have TMJ (jaw issue) and it seems to get worse when I start my period, my Dentist/TMJ dentist recommend I should try going on Birth Control, and helps for Migraines etc. so I hope it's works.
this made me feel sm betterr💖
im in 7th grade and 13 and i haven't got mine yet but my friend seems to think its funny to make a joke about me not having my period
although I completely understand using pads, I'm so glad I can use tampons now. pads were so uncomfortable for me I literally didn't want to walk it felt so weird to me and I literally wanted to cry it felt horrible. But but I was finally able to put in tampons and my periods don't bother me anymore!! I'm so glad lmao
Oh and I dance so wearing a pad with a leotard is very difficult. very difficult.
Period cups would probably be better, though. Especially if you dance since they can be worn for 10-12 hours.
More on Planned Parenthood's website: www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control/birth-control-pill
What you said about the pill helping with periods is spot on! With me, it also helped with acne and period pains.
a tip for putting in a tampon, is leaning back while you’re sitting down. it causes your legs to spread wider, allowing the tampon to enter your vagina with ease. it will make it less painful or almost painless, basically.
OMG THIS VIDEO WAS AWESOME
I also found out through trial and error that if your period isn't heavy enough the tampon does not want to go in and it hurts. ya gotta be flowing yo!
as a biologist, you've not quite explained what the pill does. While I'm glad you're creating an open discussion about a difficult topic, it makes me a little uncomfortable about the misinformation
my period just ended for last month but hasn't begun yet for this month. and yes I haven't worn a tampon in my life I do prefer pads PS I do have my reason for not wearing tampons one being what cat talked about in this video.
Hey cat I love you sooo much!!! You are incredible and I love watching your videos have an awesome day

this video is awesome!! ✨✨✨
Oh my goodness this video was awesome!!! 😁
What if you tried tampons for the first time and didn’t get it far enough in and would like to get it out, it’s so painful💀
I love this video, it's so helpful :)
oh my god this video is awesome! that was great advice!
Uhm... Not to scare anyone further, but I have definitely had tampon strings disappear on me. I don't know how, but a few times the string has just wiggled its way up there. I eventually found it again, but just a heads up :/
You look so good with red lip and dark hair 😊😊
I love your makeup💗💕
haha this video was awesome... always here for moral support 😇
*the thing is
Such a helpful video!
Oh my god this video is awesome ❤️❤️😀
