  • We just entered Georgia, the beautiful and wild country, where we cycle up a rugged mountain pass and through the clouds. The drivers are bad, but the local cuisine is just what we need after hard days of cycling!

      Great to hear that, especially from someone who is touring. We always strive to give the viewer a true sense of how we felt during a particular stretch. That is not always as easy and lighthearted, as you will know for sure 😉

      Glad you enjoyed! Yes, Georgia is a great country except for the traffic 😅 We felt like some weight lifted from us shortly after crossing the border. It is so different from what we've seen the month before and we needed that change.

    Now that was a worthwhile bike tour video!, plenty of shots of view's, a bit of comedy, interaction with a lovely old babushka, showed some villages and small city sights, some food and how to not to eat it and how to eat it properly like a local, mystery of the fog view's, light hearted and informative without judgement.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  7 місяців тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed it, but we never judged. When we speak about our emotions that is just how it is and we do our best to explain them to our viewers. We realise that it is much easier to enjoy content that is always lighthearted and fun, but we will never show a different experience than what we actually had. This can be fun, but it can also be frustrating and depressing.

    They do not remove the catalysators because they contain valuable metals. They remove them because they drive old cars which catalysators doesn't work anymore and are clogged. The same as the DPF filters of the diesel cars. It is the same here in Bulgaria for most of the the older cars.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  5 місяців тому

      Interesting. That sounds legit as well. When we cycled through Germany we passed by someone who recycles cars, and he bragged about the money he makes from the catalytic converters, so maybe it is both?

    • @ivanilarionov1893
      @ivanilarionov1893 5 місяців тому +1

      @@AmazingWorldBikeTour it is true that there is a second market for catalysts and there are two parts of it. First is recycling catalysts of old cars which ends their life - for example 6 years ago I sold my old ford escort 1997 for 170 euro to a company that recycle old cars. They strip every valuable part that can be sold in used condition (and there is a market for such parts). Then separate the alimunum from the steel and send them for recycling. The catalysts are sold to other dealers for recycling of the platinum in it. This is the official market. The unofficial market consists of stolen catalysts. There are two cases - clogged catalysts of old cars which are directly sold for recycling - for example few years ago someone stole the catalyst of my current car, which is 2001. According my knowledge, the price for such catalyst is about 100 euro. No one here will remove his own catalyst for 100 euro, because it will cost more than this to replace it with something else. In my case - with some kind of replacement that doesn't do anything. It costed me about 180 euro. Why did I not replace it with a new catalyst? Because it costs something like 1000 euro (I bought my car for 1800 euro in 2016, freshly imported from Germany :) ) and there is a chance that it will be stolen again.
      There is also a market of functioning catalysts stolen from new cars - they are much, much more expensive and they are not used for recycling, but are sold to people that want a real replacement for their stolen catalyst :))
      And in theory one shouldn't be able to pass the annual technical check without catalyst and also they are supposed to measure exhaust gases, but in practice they don't pay attention at all. This is in Bulgaria and I really doubt that is too much different in Georgia or Armenia. Also it looks like there a lot of ladas and jigulis on the road - here in Bulgaria they are almost gone in the last 10-15 years. You can see some very very rarely.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  5 місяців тому

      Interesting. Yes, many of the imported cars here are 15+ years old.
      In the countryside there is still plenty of Lada, especially in Armenia. The former corrupt prime minister made a shade deal and Armenia therefore became part of the Russian Economic Union. 🙄

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  2 місяці тому

      We applaud the efforts Georgia has put in fighting corruption. Clearly there have been big improvements.
      However, that does not change the fact that a large amount of drivers did not obtain their driving license passing actual theoretical and practical exams in the past. This is what is of interest to us, especially as cyclists.
      The huge amount of reckless drivers was very notable, and there is an obvious connection.
