    You removed the fence to throw out the factory nuts. Instead of struggling with the handle to start the threads, get them started while the fence is off. This way you spin the bolt 🔩 onto the handle, then slide the fence back on. So simple.

    Thread the bolts into the levers and the bracket then slide the fence into the bracket assembly.

      Those were my exact thoughts. That's the way I always attach things like this.

      In a situation where you can't slide the back, or you prefer a slightly better initial setup.. You can hold the level out, and use a screw driver to turn the center part until you get it snug. This beats using the level 10 half turns to get to snug.

      that works too.

    I'm just using round metal knurled knobs and found the fence doesn't need more torque than what my fingers can handle anyway. They don't get in the way of anything and I never had the fence position shift unintentionally since I switched.

    I have an allen wrench attached to the miter gauge with a rare earth magnet. Not as good as the driver you have but works well for the small adjustment and always available.

    • @winterjoel
      @winterjoel 5 років тому

      Basically what I did too. I just attached a very low profile rare-earth magnet to the protractor portion, and it holds the metal tip of the allen-screwdriver in place for my ready access.
      Honstly, though, it's really an imperfect solution. It should all be tool-less.

    My incra driver is currently somewhere behind my workbench, which is up against the garage wall, which I am not planning on moving any time soon. I just grab by Hex wrenches when I need to make any adjustments. It's really not that big of a deal. That reminds me, I need to readjust my fence after making a bunch of 45 degree cuts for edgint around a table. This was the first time I've made 45 degree cuts with this and they all joined up flawlessly. I am currently debating buying an incra 1000 so I can reattach the sled to my incra 5000. It is currently configured as the 3000, but it takes way too much work to switch between the two and I really like having the sled.

      I switch between the left and right miter slots quite often for angle cuts so having the lever clamps would be a time saver plus I find the ball on the on the hex driver from Incra sticks inside the factory socket cap. Incra sells them but I just haven't bought them yet. I do plan on it though. If it wasn't for Lloyd I would never have thought of this.

    Driver is in table saw cabinet like you mention. It’s got a reserved spot so it doesn’t move.

    What about the flat head screw driver slot on top of the ratcheting handle

    • @professorlloyd1789
      @professorlloyd1789  6 років тому +1

      Annie Lariviere you can use the screw head to increase the tension. To do so, you would pull the lever out and turn the screw. If you turn screw while the lever is engaged with the screw, the lever will turn as well.
      I’m not sure if that answers your question or not.

      @@professorlloyd1789 to start the handle onto a screw, hold the handle out, then push the slotted screw in until it disengages the ratchet slots.. then you can screw the lever onto a screw. secondary if you put the handles so they are tight when turned clockwise as far as able, ( without hitting your miter gauge), if you back off the lever less than 1/4 turn it should be more than enough to slide the fence. and not interfer with the stop block

    I just use a magnet attached to the miter “turntable” to keep the driver and hex key handy.

    • @professorlloyd1789
      @professorlloyd1789  5 років тому

      That's a great idea. I actually do the same thing for the small allen key that is used to lock/unlock the offcut side of the miter 5000

  • @alanrichardson7244
    @alanrichardson7244 Рік тому

    Put the fastener on the screw thru the backing before sliding it into the mitre.

  • @alanrichardson7244

    Put longer bolts in and put washers between the lever and the mitre edge. They will clear beautifully.

    I made a small tray that sits on the rail of my saw's T square fence that holds my ball driver. It's always there in easy reach.

    I like this idea. Also, if your moving the fence you may as well have the stop out of the way. It's not likely to be in it's useful position once you crack the fence loose anyway.

    • @professorlloyd1789
      @professorlloyd1789  5 років тому +1

      tsstn That is a very good point. Most of the time the stop is going to be much further to the side.

      Tom Dench, I should have used the word community as it wasn’t actually a forum where this came up. It was a discussion on the Woodworking Community on Facebook. The group is a non-paid offshoot of the Wood Whisperer Guild.

      So I installed the Incra lever locks and couldn't be happier. Adjusting the fence is so much easier than having to keep the factory hex driver on the saw fence or close to the saw. Thanks!

      The trick is to keep it handy. If you move your miter gauge to different power tools, will you still have the driver handy? I'm for replacing screws for knobs in all adjustment connections, whenever possible.

      So annoying how people want to defend this design flaw, having thumb knobs is wayyyyyy more efficient than having to search for or keep a driver handy just to adjust the length on a fence. I really appreciate you for this video thank you ❤️

  • @bobbg9041

    you see the end of the handle it has a flat head screw you use a flat head screw driver in, this starts to lever lock nut over your bolt from that point you just use the lever to loosen or tighten it as needed. boom its on! you just have to pay attention to the hardwear to see what you can do with it. otherwise why is there a flat head screw in it?
    or as somone else said put the bolts on the lever nuts then slide them on the fence, seems the Professor needs to go back to school. No seriously there's always more then one way to skin a cat just look at the cat and see how it would like to be skinned! Hell even ask the cat! I could be really rude but we all have a DUH times!
    You could probably get them at fastnal too.
    Good Idea Nice post thank you!
