Question: Have you ever looked at optical illusion images? Would be cool a video of you experiencing that!

OMG thank you! you’re right I should try to record that mini golf video. I was going to record that but the golf place is near my old apartment and I had to move very quickly.

Yup, dear Sister, I still to this day memorize voices and body movements as opposed to faces. The 70's and 80's did not have resources for the sight impaired and it took a relationship with God to stop hating people for treating my "coke bottle lenses" as a weakness. PEACE AWESOME Lady and God bless your steps with Favor and Grace.

It’s amazing how when I go outside I expect it to be like it was just automatically. It’s like we have to install overrides into our system.
One thing that’s interesting is I’m no longer afraid of swimming. I used to be afraid of being inside a swimming pool and I took swimming lessons last year. I jumped in like a fish and I was so surprised I didn’t even know who I was.
Much love to you and your journey !!!

I’m going to try to make a video that demonstrates what it looked like. Basically everything looked like a white sheet with some colors.

After gaining your site, do you feel that having sight along with all the trials of being blind have made you feel more resourceful now?

I love your story. My son had to be patched because he was legally blind in one eye. So he had to deal with some of those emotional things.

You are younger than me, and there's no good reason why you didn't have an IEP that allowed you to take all your tests orally. Those existed when you were a kid and should have been provided for you . Can you, if it's not too personal, talk about your parents and the household you grew up in? You've alluded to it not being good but not fully explained. (Understand if you don't want to.)

This part of the story would definitely clear it up. I did have a section about it in this video but when I watched it through, it just seemed to be too depressing so I cut it out.
I’ve struggled with this because it’s extremely dark. While I’m fine with it today, I do worry it will really upset people. Also revisiting it tends to be a little bit difficult mentally for me.
I could go into detail maybe? I’m not sure people want to see that on UA-cam? my personality is pretty bubbly and happy regardless of all of this, and i really don’t want to be known as the person who is just talking about the awful stuff that happened to her. I’m more interested in being visible so that anyone else going through similar has an example to get out of it and do the healing work.
I am interested in writing a memoir because the incredible amount of detail and nuance in this situation is really hard to get across in video / quick content form.
I am writing a piece that will be published in a legit publication soon that goes into more detail (still not the worst details) but - to make a long story short, I was abandoned by my birth parents when I was a few weeks old and never got parents. I was kept off the grid with some mentally ill (the type who fist fight in public that the police and the neighborhood know by name) relatives and away from CPS - when they’d visit they’d tell me to say everything was fine “or else they’d take me someplace worse”. So I was existing in a state of such neglect and violence that - for example - I didn’t have access to the free lunch tickets at school because nobody would sign the papers for me. So I just didn’t eat. They reinforced the “you’re stupid” narrative.
I am working on a piece now for a magazine, where I talk about this particular situation. I think it’s going to come out toward the end of summer - I’ll definitely announce it. Like I said I am still obfuscating the gory details of the abuse - it’s focused on the good people who I am grateful for those who stepped up best they could - teachers, librarians - neighbors, but it should clear up a lot of the connecting the dots. I still call one of these folks weekly who has been there for me since I was 12 and she saw what was going on.
I feel very strongly about adoption/kids in poverty. If I get a book deal or whatever that puts me in the position to donate my charity will definitely be toward helping those types of children.

@@OliviaDurant Thank you for explaining. I'm sorry the adults in your life didn't do right by you. You've clearly come a long way. I'll look forward to reading your article when it comes out.

@@OliviaDurantI think it's worth putting the worst stuff in writing or a video. The truth matters. Maybe it will help someone. It's interesting that you're worried it could upset someone else. We can just skip to the next video if we need to, but you have to live with it. So, only do it if it won't hurt yourself too much. If you're worried about the brand of your channel, you could always put it at the end of a video with appropriate warnings at the start. Perhaps it's a better topic for a book though. Personally I can't talk about the worst things even if I try, because my voice will just break and my face will turn into a snotty mess 😅
