  • Coca-Cola Life was launched in November 2014 to act as a healthier alternative to the ever incredibly popular classic Coke. We look at the food innovation and analyse why it failed and introduce it to our innovation graveyard as a product that didn't live up to the hype.

Who else enjoyed Coca-Cola Life as a drink?

I did enjoy it but it felt strange getting a low calorie cook when you could get a Coke Zero. Would you buy it if it was still available?

@@foodverge I think I would buy it yeah. I enjoyed it MORE than Diet Pepsi

@@juniourst3ven596 Interesting, I always wondered will they bring it back. They are pushing their no caffeine version at the minute. I wonder would people prefer coke life instead of that? Who knows?

@@foodverge in my case I’ll take it because it’s low sugar and those sugars are more natural, maybe not healthy but certainly less harmful than HFCS.

It was my favorite Coke in 40+ years. So disappointed it's gone.

I thought Coca Life tasted way better than regular coke. It wasn't sickly sweet, and the sugar brought out some interesting herbal flavors from the stevia. Made the best Rum and Cokes. Drinks made only with stevia have a weird flavor and mouthfeel similar to artificial sweeteners. I don't know if it was fake, but I saw a blind taste test between regular and life, and life was the resounding winner.

Very interesting! Maybe it will make a comeback!

@@foodverge It was such a small percentage of their sales, and I doubt such a big corporation would even look back, much less turn that ship around. Possibly a small company would make a similar drink.

Now that studies reveal aspartame causes cancer, will they bring back coke life to the market? Will consumers now finally switch?

I remember really liking Coke Life. I got it at the Central Park Zoo and Bronx Zoo all the time when my family had season passes. And the way that the sweetness hit was something out of this world.

We never got an all Stevia version of Coke in US, just the reduced sugar version. So for me, someone who likes Stevia drinks, I didn't want any sugar at all to reduce risk of cavities and unnecessary calories. So a half Stevia soda doesn't sell well to people who are used to only Stevia. And people who like sugar don't typically want Stevia. They guaranteed the drink would fail by appealing to a very small niche group.

It would have been better to just make only the pure Stevia sweetened one to keep it simple, 0 calorie but I guess they didn't want it putting Coke Zero and Diet Coke out of commission so this internal conflict sabotaged their own product.
