    EDIT: I've since replaced my zephyr 1 with a Featherstone Obsidian 1 tent - Please check out my review: • Review: Featherstone O...
    I thought I'd give a quick rundown of this popular hiking tent, which I bought from Anaconda here in Australia a few years ago.
    NOTE: The current iteration of the Zephyr 1 is a different color (black/red) but the design seems basically unchanged from when I bought mine.
    The good: It packs down to a reasonable size and isn't back-breakingly heavy on the trail. There's plenty of room for one person and gear and I've never had any problems with water getting in.
    The bad: The 'tunnel' design isn't the easiest to setup. You need to carry 12 pegs to get a decent pitch. Having a door at the end just isn't good design in my opinion. It's awkward to get in/out and storing gear in the vestibule makes it worse.
    Summary: It's not bad as an entry level hiking tent, and I'd say it's a decent buy if you can get it on discount and can live with it's shortcomings, but there are probably nicer options for similar money (at RRP) and I'll be looking forward to an upgrade when funds allow.

    you talk like you hate it, but you’ve carried it for years. if it was junk, and if you are a keen hiker, then you’d swap it out. it’s not broken so it’s a good indication of the quality.

      Hey Darryl, thanks for the feedback. You're not wrong - it's definitely held up well and for my occasional use (I also use a larger tent and a hammock) over the years it's never been 'bad enough' to make me change. This is my first shot at reviewing anything so for sure I have room for improvement.

    2 years late but still a relevant video! Good on you for making one when there was none. My little brother is trying to fix my old one

    Great review mate-i did one 3 yrs ago but you covered it well,and like you said-the main issue for me was the end entry-so i upgraded to the 2 person Kakadu (denali) still around the $100 mark which was awesome for the budget minded and has the side entry.

    Great tent from Anaconda at a great price, This tent will see you through a storm no problem other brands offer the same quality at higher price. The Denali range varies from 1 to 3 man go get one, nice work Benny.

    Hey Ben, appreciate for doing this. Good work! I was looking for reviews of the same then to hear from someone used it for years given me a good balanced perspective. Thanks you again.The only question I have you is: what did you end up replacing this tent with?

      Thanks very much! I actually haven't replaced it yet due to finances, but am hoping to get a new tent in the next month or two. I'm taking a pretty good look at the Marmot Tungsten UL 1p and Nemo Hornet tents as I am looking for something lightweight.

    If its waterproof and doesn't let the rain in and its sturdy in decent winds what else would you need ??

      Can't argue that those are the most important things. I reckon most half decent tents should do that though, so what's left to talk about except the 'nice to haves'?

    Hi Ben
    Wanted to gain your thoughts on what weather environments you have used the tent, did you think you need a ground sheet for underneath the tent that matches the floor space of the tent to stop residual water ingress from below?

    • @TheAdventurousBen
      @TheAdventurousBen  3 роки тому

      Hey Phillip. I've never used a footprint with this tent myself. I have woken up to a slightly damp floor after moderate rain but it wasn't too bad. I've never used this tent in really bad weather though. The website says that the floor has a 3000mm rating which is pretty decent for a light-ish tent. for shorter trips I'd only take a separate ground sheet if I thought there was a good chance of storms (but then I might just stay home anyway!)

    Can you use in snow or Alpine conditions?

      I haven’t tried but it’s a bit drafty to be honest I don’t think it’d be much good in proper cold.

    Reading between the lines... This tent is rubbish, but if you've only got $150 then it's better than being cold and wet.

    • @TheAdventurousBen
      @TheAdventurousBen  3 роки тому

      Sort of. It fulfils the basic function of a tent, without any frills. I bought it based on price though so I can’t be too hard on it!

      @@TheAdventurousBen What else could you buy for $150? More reviews of things you could have bought instead of this tent.
