- A rare film of 'Life Without Buildings' rehearsing in my old London flat, recording a session and being interviewed by John Kennedy at XFM Radio Station on 04/12/2000.
Life Without Buildings were Will Bradley (drums), Chris Evans (bass), Robert Johnston (guitar) and Sue Tompkins (vocals). They formed the band in 1999, having met as students at Glasgow School of Art. The band's only studio LP 'Any Other City', recorded by producer Andy Miller at Chem19 Studios in Glasgow was released on Rough Trade Records in 2001 and is now rightly considered a classic.
Terrific band, still with a diehard following in Australia ... with many like myself who were at that now-famous Annandale Hotel gig in 2001 holding the band in great reverence.
Oh my lord I wish I was there! 'You can move, first floor, front door!'
I was there, I think they did 2 nights at the Annandale. Honestly can't remember if I saw them on the first or second night.
I saw them play at The Corner in Melbourne. As I recall Sue only needed cheat sheets for Sorrow. Every other song she had down in her head. Wonderful band.
I wonder why they have such a large following in Australia? lots of love an intrigued UK fan!
@@felicitydowns6651 I dunno about the rest of Oz but they got played a lot on 3 Triple RRR at the time, as I recall, so that may explain their following in Melbourne.
So ordinary and so powerful. Look at what Sue’s giving it.
It makes me unbelievably happy to be able to watch this! What a magnificent band, still so important and beloved to so many of us!
Thanks! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
