Great show mate, I didn't need to watch this tutorial because I understand and learned how to operate JDAMs when Wags put out his videos, But still I really enjoyed that, it never gets old. Thanks for sharing that. Cheers.
LOL interstingly mine is a remix used by Northrop in promo videos for the F-20 Tiger Shark, I ripped it from an old VHS tape I found in my dad's old stuff!
I'm definitely in the crowd that would enjoy JDAMs more once we have a targeting pod, but even with the current setup they are very nice weapons. Is it just me or do they feel different from the ones we've had on the Hog? They just seem to be more precise and capable than the older ones. Definitely longer engagement ranges, though that's partly due to the Hornet's higher typical cruising speed and altitude I guess. Maybe I'm just nuts...lol
Well DCS was just overhauled to get coordinate decimals which do down the the square meter (I believe) but you're right they will never be as perfectly precise as an LGB due to their larger CEP. And I totally agree on the targeting pod point!
@@Spudspike I'd love to be a fly on the wall with the team working on the pods. I would love to know which stations will accept them so I can adjust my default loadouts now. I've seen them on 3,4,5,6,and 7. Probably 2 and 8 as well given that those are "smart" points as well.
AvengerBB1 the LIGHTENING II TPOD we are getting is only carried on the Centerline by the Marines, the Aussies and Finn’s use them on the cheek stations, the USN always puts the ATFLIR pod that we are getting later on the I believe Left cheek station
@@Spudspike we've been crushing fixed facilities. Four targets, four bombs, four buildings destroyed in one pass. Can't wait until we can get it even more precise.
Hey Spud, I thought of a question when watching your video and a few others detailing this same process. Has anyone tried Pre briefed mode using a low altitude approach and then tossing the JDAM’s? All the videos I see show them being employed in the way you did in this video but I can see my idea, if feasible, being really effective against SAM sites or EWR radars. I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work.
I do not think that is modeled as of yet in the JDAM's autopilot in DCS, toss bombing has gone way out of style in the 21st century, but i don't see any reason why it wouldn't be incorporated at some point, i personally almost never toss bomb
Hello! What is the height of using JDAM? Why do my JDAMs miss large hangars with a 50/50 chance from above 30,000 feet? Precisely I do everything as in the manual, it definitely hits the video for everyone. I also enter decimals in PP mode or exactly in the center of the hangar in TOO mode.
I'm equally excited about trying these out as I am dreading the setup. Do we know if the terminal guidance settings will be mandatory for a drop once/if they are implemented? I can imagine situations where it might be excessively precise.
Thanks for the very informative video. I have the same "DDI" screen as yours with the exception of no "Step" button option. I put in all the coordinates for each Jsow \Jdam fly to the release point and only able to release one at a time. After the first missile is fired I am unable to fire the others onto the designated targets. The coordinates are no longer present and I have to circle around while putting in the coord. for the next missile and so forth for all the remaining missiles. How do I fire all missiles without having to circle around and put in each coord. over and over again? Both beta and purchased copy have the same issue.

when I do the conversations to decimals to latitude and longitude let's say you did the (W116 (Minutes -14) (Seconds-28) and then you entered 20 degrees? how'd you get the 20 degrees, isn't it 116+14/60+28/3600=116.24111111 where'd you get the 20 degrees I am actually curious because I feel like I'm doing it wrong, aren't you suppose to write 24 degrees?
On the F10 map or in the Mission editor you can change the coordinate display modes generated by DCS (I think it’s left Alt-L) so that it’s formatted like W 116-54-16.45 for instance.
Hey Spud, do you know what the different variants of the GBU-31's are? (It's like V something) There's like 3 types if I recall (at least 2 diff types) of the 31's.
On the PG map, I placed a target at "N 27:10.850", according to F10 L-Alt Y decimal coordinates. There was nothing I could do to prevent it from being recognized as N 0:27:10.85 in plan 1. So, I kept being directed to the North Pole. I tried putting in "027:010" and "27:010" but it wasn't changing it. I was successfully able to put in the coordinates you placed here, but couldn't put in the F10 decimal coordinates. What am I doing wrong?
Really like your videos and they are very helpful minimizing the learning curve of DCS. One erroneous point you made at the beginning of your video about JDAMS not being able to hit a moving target. A JDAM can in fact hit a moving target...but maybe not in DCS.
JDAM's cannot hit a moving target, L-JDAM's with a laser seeker in the nose can. JDAM's guide onto a set of coordinates in space and time, they have no active seeker to "see" a moving target
FlyingDeacon I think you’re mistaken... a GBU-54 is a L-JDAM in the 500 pound category. A GBU-32 is a 1000 pound standard JDAM kit on a 1000 pound Mk83
Spudknocker - Thanks for the info. I recently was speaking with an F-22 pilot who was telling me about hitting moving targets with the JDAM from high altitudes. Must’ve been the one you are referring to. Interesting stuff.
@@FlyingDeacon Hmmm... I'm not sure, in my experience with talking with military pilots who have flown in combat they don't tend to place a lot of importance on what type of weapon they used on a particular sortie, for better or for worse, usually worse for historians such as myself LOL
