I’ve got a 2007 630i. It’s loaded with gadgets although very dated now. Someone paid £58000 for it. Mine for £4600. I’ve used it as my daily driver from 125000 to 140000 in one year. I’ve had many more modern cars as company or lease cars but there is something about this car that wraps around you, feels very small to drive and still goes very quick. Looks at the 645 but the performance v the runnings costs wasn’t really worth the extra. I love it
A good honest appraisal for certainly one of my favourite cars, the lines of this car are brilliant, stands out in a crowd for all the right reasons and really looks the part, thanks for this, well done and look after that beast!
Just drove mine accross the Cotswolds in the UK as the sun rose, great drive! Can't beat the sound of a V8 starting! Agree about the manual selection, I still get it wrong sometimes! Had it 5 years 2007 90k miles now
The thought process in pulling the shifter back, is because of you being thrown back if you’re really on the gas. It’s easier to work with the inertia when you accelerate, being pushed back into the seat, by pulling the shifter to advance the gearing, then trying to sit forward, to push the stick forward. BMW things of everything.
I bought a e63 650i around 2 weeks ago. My previous car was a e90 318i. My 650i is very very fast. Not sure whether yours has power loss, but it definitely throws you back and if you floor it from a standstill and spins up.
I have a 645ci. First off mpg on mine is 15 city 22 highway 18 combined the 650 is 16 city 23 highway 19 combined...and when in Sport don't manual shift, let the car do that, it will take off like a rocket and put you in your seat. Or to shave a second off more is to turn the DTC off and shift manually, however, that's on a secret menu and you'll have to google it. I've seen it and it will literally shave a second off the car... Which is pretty dam'n impressive!

the shifting pattern comes from motorsport. BMW and Alfa Romeo are the only ones using the +- in the correct order actually. Easy thing to get confused about though - since only two companies are using it this way :)
These cars are so amazing. There's no other car that has so much luxury and performance for that amount of money. You can have one of these with low miles, for the same cost as replacing the CC brakes on an R8. Thanks to BMW always making new things people want, these drop in value so fast. It's still an $80,000 car, you can just buy it for $15,000 now!
A real sports car must have hear shifter with the gears as you described, i. e., up for lowering and back for going one speed up... why???? If you see the movement that you need to do to go shift to upper speed is minimum compared to what you need to do in other cars, you can do it without much effort... the other way around requires more effort.... I got one car like this and after driving it in sport mode I realized that this is a gear shifter designed to speed...
