This is a really good example of the English style of ballet vs the Russian. Not that one is better than the other, but interesting to see them against each other! Russians, particularly Vaganova-trained & Mariinsky dancers, convey a lot through their very flexible, open backs and fluid arms, particularly unique that way. Marianela expresses more facially, with a noticeably different use of the head in a way that seems… not less balletic, but more realistic? You could believe that Nikiya was a real person rather than a ballerina (not to say that Svetlana is anything but beautifully transcendental here!), like something you’d see in a play or film - perhaps picked up from her time mastering Ashton & Macmillan ballets.
Nunez also became famous as Gamzatti. But I did not come across that Svetlana Zakharova tried herself in the role of Gamzatti, although she would have coped with this role.
Both are magnificent dancers. Zakharova: very flexible, moves fast, will contort her body as much as possible, beautiful long limbs. Nunez: queen of fluid slow motion, emphasis on developing beautiful clean lines instead of cluttering them with too much movements. love the ending. more particular with the angle of her face, her eyes, the way her face moves. I think English Royal Ballet makes good use of close distance shots from camera, that's why facial expression is well taken care of.
Nela, she just takes that extra music and bends it to her movements and each placement is throughout her whole body, she just embodies the role with her whole self.
Nunez was my favorite. She was exquisitely one with the music and her bourrées were unearthly fast and delicate. She had strength in her body and was able to hold the pose so that the eyes can rest upon her. Zhakarova tends to move through poses and I do not get the feeling of strength from her. She’s extremely elongated. Nunez is able to balance. I would not have believed it if I had not seen them side-by-side but I prefer Nunez decidedly. Beautiful artistry.
Nunez is too coarse, she does not seem delicate and light to me as a ballet dancer requires, her lines are very short, her body is too coarse to allow her to show delicacy and musicality, Zakharova has the body, the length of her limbs, a perfect technique.! I don't think Marianela is at Zakharova's level, in no way🙃
I love both! However, there is a difference between the two gorgeos ladies....in my opinion Svetlana is defenetly the stronger an more beautyful dancer....
Good task to make split screens video to allow viewer to compare dancers whom perform better from the same piece of dance. But this one hardly to tell whom is better because this piece not require to do hard skill movement.
S.Z. & M.N are equally GORGEOUS Ballerinas & technicians. PRIMA BALLERINAS INDEED!!! I loathe having to compare sheer Brilliance. It's a relative topic to an individual's aesthetic preferences in ballet imo. S.Z has those physical dance traits/facilities MANY girls & women wish for (i.e impeccable feet & Extension of LIFE). She's also tall, long and ethereal. She has lines of a PERFECT ballerina. Clearly in control of her physical instrument. Nela is FEARLESS and pushes boundaries seemingly in All her roles I've watched her perform. Her acting is a WONDERFUL addition to her solid technique!!! Her Odette is SUBLIME!!! Towards the end of this particular variation tho note how she clearly shows fearlessness & control as she goes from a B+ to Attitude atabesque All while rotating!! After ALL of that slow tedious controlled dancing She finishes STRONG!!! I can watch her ALL DAY! Still with ALL this being expressed....and with All due Respect...I CHOOSE SYLVIE GUILLEM👑!!!😁👏🙌
Absolutely, they're both very good! We compare because as you said each dancer has his own style and it's so interesting to see differences in interpretation, it's no intended as a challenge obviously ☺️ Take a student who is learning this variation at the studio, she could learn a lot from this ☺️ thanks for your comment 💪
@@DanceLineBallet PLEASE always put the name of each dancer directly below their image at the very start to prevent confusion in those who are LESS familiar with these great ballerinas. Be consistent & clear by placing the names briefly at the start OR saying ______ left screen _______right screen. * Thanks for listening to this suggestion!
Nunez's camera works better to show her facial expression, and her choreography also is better. but i think Zakharova had a better performance here. However both of them are wonderful with different styles
Between zakharova and Nunez I chose Nunez. Although in general I prefer Russian ballet.. But in nikya for example I prefer lopatkina, Tereshkina, somova, novikova.. Nunez is genius ballerina, love her.. But Russian style no one in EU or the world has.. Zakharova don't give me any emotions..
I like Nunez's body better, but Zakharova's fluid motions. If you could combine the movement quality of Zakharova with the Nunez body it would be the perfect La Bayadere for me.
As a ballet ignoramus, even I can see the stretch and grace of Nunez's arm movements between 0:09 and 0.15, compared to the short, jerky ones of Zakharova. But tell me it's merely difference of training traditions, and I will believe you.
Zakharova, on the left, is the one who fully uses her arms and fingers with stretch, expression and fluidity starting from her supple torso and back, though both are fabulously gifted ballerinas worthy of praise.
They are BOTH exquisite and exceptionally gifted ballerinas, but if I had to choose, I prefer Zakharova who I feel draws out the fluidity and expressiveness through her arms and torso, so powerfully to the maximum. ***SUGGESTION - PLEASE briefly label the names below the dancers images at the very start for those who don't recognize their faces etc... On the title you put Nunez listed first, but in the description, you put Zakharova listed first. It may be obvious to most of your viewers who's who, but there may be some less familiar with ballet's greats.
Again, Nunez's choreography is harder than Zakharava's, so I have found this quite a few times now, seems Zakharava tends to pick a easier variation every time , I know it sounds not making sense, she supposed to be a great dancer too. Who knows this a bit more?
The russian trained back of zakharove, especially upper back and shoulders I would always rather watch than nunez - next to zakharova her upper back and shoulders are stiff and don't continue the movements of the body
I love Nunez, but Zakharova's arms and the sheer musicality of her entire body are something else altogether. Breathtaking.

Zaharova is not Vaganova trained. She is from Ukraine, Kiev’s choreography school.
@@Tatiana-yp2bkshe spent her graduating year at Vaganova .
Zakharova's La Bayadere is the best, she looks so soft and flexible. I love it 😍😍
Svetlana’s arms and grace 😍😍
I have been watching her dance for at least 10 years and she is still mesmerising in my eyes 🧡🧡
Both are magnificent dancers.

Zakharova's arms! So beautiful
what a magnificent creature
She is soooo beautyful !Unbeatable!
Nela, she just takes that extra music and bends it to her movements and each placement is throughout her whole body, she just embodies the role with her whole self.
Marianela looks as an oriental dancer. The spirit of the rol is wonderfully clear in her, no matter she is dancing ballet.
Zakharova's body is ALREADY a poetry.
I can’t choose between my two favourite ballerinas 😩❤️ they’re so stunning
I think that both are very talented and the split screen is a better comparison but I think Nela
Both dancers are incredibly talented with a beautiful presence and style. Thank you for this video. ❤❤❤

Unmatched perfection and expressiveness of Marianela Nuñez

noooooo one like the perfection of svetlana
Núñez, with her musicality and rhythm. For me..
Couldn’t take my eyes away from Marianela
Nunez is good but zakharova is simply, otherworldly, nothing can beat her fine lines and bodily control.

Zakharova on the left
Nunez fades next to Zakharova. Zakharova is the standard of classical ballet, refined with the body of a goddess.
