Ford Fusion Back Seat Stuck - Solved

Our Ford Fusion Hybrid has gotten its rear seatback stuck in the down position and we have solved the problem! This video also gives a solution to keep the seat from ever doing this again.
If your rear seatback won't retract or won't go back up into running position, we have figured out a way for you to remedy the situation. The TT50 Star Bit, or TT 50 Star bit socket ($7) at Walmart, will help you unlock the middle seatbelt if your rear seat - the 60% side - from freezing up or locking up in the down position. Watch how easy it is to solve the problem and troubleshoot future tension issues with the seatbelt and the seatback.

I went to my local Ford dealer with this problem. Evidently they had not encountered it before. They told me I needed to have the retraction mechanism and belt replaced. they would be able to do this for the low low cost of $800. I told them to give me back my car and left with it. I came home and found this video. I followed your instructions and was able to accomplish the fix in about 45 minutes. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You - 800 tiimes over.

OMG! This video was awesome! I was able to do it all by my little 56-year-old lady self. I used a basketball to hold the seat back up while I undid the seatbelt screw. Thank you for telling me the size of the star bit. I purchased it at Home Depot for three dollars. Ford gave me an estimate of $225 labor just to look at it and may be another $225 to possibly fix it.

There's no way that Ford dealers are unfamiliar with this issue and don't know that it can be fixed in 5 minutes with no parts and a tool they already have. If they're charging more than maybe $50 (let's say rounding up to the nearest half hour for labor) for it they're just stealing from customers.
