- Outside Othello, Washington, a labyrinth of canyons conjure images of the desert Southwest, but these channels weren’t carved by rivers. Join local geologist Nick Zentner as he examines the surreal landscape of Drumheller Channels for evidence of massive Ice Age floods.

Special thanks to Central Washington University as the original creator and collaborator for Nick on the Rocks.
So glad to see Washington PBS putting Nick back on. Bravo!
Professor Nick Zentner has such a wonderful way of explaining Geology to everyone. Well done with the music & camera work as well. This is awesome!
The pencil analogy makes so much sense! Thx!
WOW! A great new format for Nick On The Rocks. Cinematography is excellent! The host, as usual, is brilliant.
It's the production quality that Nick's message always deserved.
Absolutely, an award winning production.
Nicely done!....Hey Nick, Don't drop that hammer! ;)
Home run out of the park good job thank you ALL
Excellent Nick and crew!!
Nick on the Rocks…you gotta love it! 👍🏼
Yep
If Nick Zentner's name is not on these productions, I don't get notified! Nick's teaching style and narrative is the primary draw.❤
Soooooooo glad to have Nick on the Rocks back!!! (said while adding a new field trip to my never-ending list!)
Wow!! He’s back!!! New version looks GREAT!
Those columns are so impressive. One day I’ll get to take a drive to see them in person. Thank you for teaching us all about the wonders in our PNW backyards. ❤
Fantastic landscape, fantastically explained. Thank you!
Love this new set of “Nick on the Rocks”!! Nick has matured and evolved from the original series and the video is stunningly beautiful! Thank you KCTS and Nick!! ❤❤
Very enjoyable. Thanks Nick! Love the new format and production values.
I usually have issues with the quality of music on videos, but someone here has great taste. Loving the score.
Whoohoo! He's back and better than ever!
Professor Nick: I’ve been a fan since 2019. This continuation of the On the Rocks series is stellar: wonderful content delivered exquisitely, and the video/cinematography quality is as best as I’ve seen, for all this new series. Really excellent work.
That beautiful scenery is waiting for you but it's inadvisable to go there when it's hot out. Go in Spring, and be prepared for stiff winds.
Nice surprise in my YT feed 😂
Loved this one.
Nice Bretz addition! Ps Hometown Jean shared to The Cozy Fort (Chamber of Commerce), a Nick on The Rocks 🪨 edition. I'm apologizing early if I've made more work for you, perhaps a "Where are they now?" recognition. Equally, feeling a Hoard Museum vibe in an exhibit? (Remember even Itchy Boots leaves her motorcycles to museums.) Maybe a hammer next to the Jones Sausage display? Jk ❤🎉
Did the ice Age flood waters ever make it up (travel up) the Columbia River to Rock Island, Washington just past the Rock Island Dam. The ridges above Hammond Lake looks so much different than the landscape and ridges further up towards Wenatchee and Jump Off Ridge also looks different?
A wonderful Monday morning surprise...... " also v e r y timely ".
I like to call that area north of Vantage the "Quincy Chaos." Your map labels it "The potholes."
For what it's worth, I named my fantasy baseball team in 23' "columnar basalts". Maybe I go with another geology term next season.
Maybe the 'Slackwater Deposits'? :D
Excellent...!
ah yes....I am reminded of the now infamous hammer drop.
❤❤❤
Enjoyable! The music is nice in and of itself, but it dominates the proceedings of these first few new episodes a bit too much: a little more Nick; tone down the otherwise-nice acoustic music.
Nice! The old nick pre Covid is back. Hopefully no more hour long nonsense.
As expected, a wonderful overview of the geology of this area! But, I think it is misleading to show the flood waters to go through the the present day canyons when in fact the flood waters FORMED the canyons we see today. It would have been better to show a flat landscape being eroded/carved by the floodwaters and creating what we see today. IMHO.
Kept his hammer in his pack this time 😊😊😊
