    Great video! Finally someone that has one that I feel has given an honest review on what the camera can do instead of all of the negative reviews from people that haven't touched the camera. I'm tired of people saying that Canon owe us. Canon doesn't owe anyone anything just like we don't owe Canon anything. If the camera work for your workflow then go with it. If it doesn't, move on. Thanks again for your tips and tricks.

      YES !! Exactly! It's not really what camera you use its how you use it and what you do with it.

    The shots that are ultra wide used the Rokinon 8mm. I didn't quite have the focus nailed so it looks a bit soft. A few shots used the Sigma 17-50 that were much sharper and in focus. I have tested slightly slower cards like the Transcend UHS1-3 cards and they couldn't maintain recording. Lexar may also be an option, but I've only had the Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC cards to try.

      +that1cameraguy You should note that some of your recommendations ONLY apply to 4k video (like the crop factor and wide lens choice). The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is still AWESOME for 1080HD and the crop factor doesn't apply.

      Just wondering: Do you think Canon will do any updates to make the crop factor only an option and not default? Thanks for the great vid

      You should know Canon by now: they don't do major changes in firmware. This is a major change that involves downscaling, so very likely not.

    Great video... Glad to hear the Mark IV is not as bad as everyone was saying... In my opinion the video looks better from the Canon than most I see from the Sony line of camera's

      I was critical of it, but you gotta live with the features it has at the end of the day. It's looking pretty good. I would hope so considering the massive bitrates.

      fnally somebody saying what i also think.
      The video from Sony's A7R and such looks crap! Feels very video-y. Not cinematic. As if im watching the local community channel broadcast. Even if they have better specs...Sony's footage just doesnt feel good, at the end..

    Thanks for sharing the info!! What exactly happens when you place a Canon - EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM on there?
    Does it become a 17mm at it's widest? Or does it just not work for video on the 5d4?
    Or like you mentioned, gotta get the aftermarket versions, sigma tokina etc?

    Hello, just watched hoping to find out... Can you shoot pictures in video mode on the 5D iv?? I just got mine today and can’t seem to find a way to do it yet... thanks if you get a chance to answer my question ✌️

    Crop not really an issue: guess what... you need a lens when u buy a camera. You don't need a crop lens... a 16-35 full frame lens has same focal length as a 16-35 crop lens. My 16-35 f/4L lens gives me 28mm in 4K, which is pretty wide and if I need wider, buy a different lens! Also, mjpeg files edit just fine! My 4 yr old MacBook Pro handles them just as easy as ones from my A6500. These files have less compression, so are actually easy to work with!

    Hi Camera Guy. I subscribed to your helpful channel. I have a question about formatting memory cards for 4k video and photographs. According to Canon manual, CF and SD cards up to 128 GB will be formatted as FAT32, but both cards 12 cards that are OVER 128GB will be formatted as ExFat. I read that you cannot shoot more than 4 minute chunks of 4k video if the card is still in FAT32 (I.e. the camera will keep making multiple .mov folders every 4 minutes). But if you format the card as ExFat then you can go up to the full 29.99 minutes continuous as one single folder. The confusion comes when Canon says that only if its OVER 128GB card, will the camera format as ExFat, whereas some other places I read, including YT, people are saying a 128 GB will also be formatted by the camera as ExFat. My SD card is 128GB therefore it’s right in the middle. And I don't know which side of the ExFat/FAT32 format it will fall inside the camera auto formatting. It's confusing at this central point and I think it would help other people too because 128GB is a common card for video. FYI, I just got my camera, haven't shot video yet, have in the camera a 256GB Sandisk CompactFlash (160MB/s) and a 128GB Sandisk SD card (85MB/s). My intention is to save video to CF and photographs to SD. Can you help clarify my question? And will my two cards work fine even though they are different memory capacities and speeds?

    • @that1cameraguy
      @that1cameraguy  7 років тому

      +Halunlimited I think you format it as exfat in the computer when it's 128GB or more if you want one video file.

    Hi, Great content thanx +that1cameraguy .. I have a 5D mark 4 coming in this week. Can you tell us more about the workflow to deal with the 4K mjpeg files, what and how to transcode them.. Does Adobe Media Encoder handle these files or will I need something else?

    • @that1cameraguy

    I've been watching your videos, dope work...can you make a video on this please.... I've notice when I use a high end SD card (Lexar 64GB 1000x) shooting 4K the camera film for 8-10 seconds and stop recording (I formatted the card before use) ....in short I starting to think not all high end USH 1 or 2 cards work with the camera..

    Great info!! Great info!! I am attempting to use my 256GB, 95MB/s, class 10 XCSD card by PNY and it can't write fast enough when trying to film 4K MJPEG @ either 29.97p or 23.98p. Any advice? The cards work great for 1080 but don't seem fast enough for 4K.

    • @that1cameraguy

      You need the sandisk extreme pro models unfortunately. Thanks for sharing your info though, since I wasn't 100% sure if those PNY's could handle it.

    So for 4K video recording and taking stills... you would recommend SD XC cards (95 MB/sec) instead of CF UDMA 7 (like the Lexar's 160 MB/sec) ?

    • @that1cameraguy
      @that1cameraguy  8 років тому

      That's a tough one to answer. The SD slot is fast enough to handle 4k and stills with a fast enough SD card. I've only used the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC cards. Ive heard others don't work well or stops 4k recording. I still would prefer a CF card over the SD.

    How does this compare to the Sony 6300? I know you have both:) lol- I have the 6300 and am still getting used to the video. I use it just for fun and some work stuff:)

    • @that1cameraguy
      @that1cameraguy  8 років тому

      Well, it won't overheat as easily. That's all I can really say. The file sizes will become a problem with the 5D Mark IV. I would still consider the a6300 to be the better "video" focused camera, although the 5D Mark IV, if you can work around some of these flaws, is still nice.

    Does 3rd parties lenses work with the Dual Pixel Auto Focus?

  • @melfeliciano8449
    @melfeliciano8449 8 років тому +1

    The problem with those ultra wide angle lenses is the barrel distortion. So no matter what lenses you use, it is not possible to achieve the "full sensor look".

    • @StephanWahlen
      @StephanWahlen 8 років тому +2

      thats two different things! A Fisheye (like in the video) has the rather extreme distortion, a normal ultrawide (a rectalinear one) doesnt.
      You can achieve very wide angles with aps-c glass, f.e. the Sigma 8-16mm will be like a 13.5 FF equiv! Thats Very wide without a lot of distortion.

    • @that1cameraguy
      @that1cameraguy  8 років тому

      Thanks for pointing this out.

    • @melfeliciano8449
      @melfeliciano8449 8 років тому

      Good point about the rectilinear wide angle lenses. Those are the ones that should be considered when looking for lenses to compensate for the narrower field of view.

    • @davepresswood3574
      @davepresswood3574 8 років тому

      buy the canon 11-24. It will give you 19mm at 1.74 (16:9) and 18mm at 1.64 in 4k. Expensive glass though.

    • @melfeliciano8449
      @melfeliciano8449 8 років тому

      Very nice lens indeed, but at that price you might as well buy a Sony a7s II and have the best of both worlds, 5D Mark IV for stills and a7s II for video.

  • @boudewijnj.m.kegels5198
    @boudewijnj.m.kegels5198 8 років тому

    It stays strange that you have to put 3rd party glass on a 5D Mark IV body to get your wide angle in 4k, if you don't want to spend a fortune on their 11-24/4L USM (in NL it goes for €3100). This is something Canon should have considered before sending out a camera with such a havy crop in 4k. Stays an excellent 1080p camera even better than the 5D III, but hay, its 2016, not 2002!

    Lol all of this seems wayyyyy too unnecessary for the price. So little improvements but it seems Canon user are soooo happy yet we've had all these features working flawlessly on other camera brands for years. Still a joke. That barrel distortion is terrible lol might as well use a GoPro. That'll once again bring you down to 1080p in the render after fixing that distortion. Good tips, but still not worth $3.5k

    • @that1cameraguy
      @that1cameraguy  8 років тому +1

      It really isn't worth the 3500 in my opinion. I've already got my criticisms about it, but we might as well look at the positives of the new model. I was using a fisheye lens so you could really see the barrel distortion.
