This video was incredibly helpful, thank you! Also…”the A is for automatic, which is probably not what you’re using…because you’re awesome” - favorite part 😂

This is the best no-nonsense explanation of each component of the Canon 5D Mark IV. I'm looking forward to seeing the others in the series.

Lee. great video. I really enjoyed your tutorial of the buttons and controls. I just bought this camera last week and am loving it. Total game changer compared to my EOS 4000D since it was only crop frame. I feel like the chains have been broken and my creativity can be free. In my excitement to get some pictures I didn't read the manual yet but will be watching more of your videos to learn more. Yes i will probably download the manual and give it a read this week. Super excited to start capturing the world around me. Thanks again for these wonderful videos.

The exposure adjustment is also very useful when shooting with flash which tends to overdrive a scene with too much light, so I will dial down the exposure 1 or 2 stops when using flash, and this tells the camera to shut the flash down a bit early, this when using flash in ETTL mode (electronic through the lens flash metering).

Av and Tv are Canon's version of Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority, respectively, and they actually stand for Aperture Value and Time Value. Also, Program allows you to set many of the settings in the camera, but will automatically set aperture and shutter speed for metered exposure, which you can adjust for various combinations of Av and Tv with the top adjusting wheel. It is sort of one step down from Av or Tv, but not full auto. I use this setting for teaching, but never in the field doing a shoot.

Handy series of videos, but a quick correction...
The button on the top, by the LCD, isn't exposure compensation, it's Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC). To adjust camera exposure compensation in Av, Tv, or P, simply turn the Quick Dial (back of camera). No need to press a button.

    • @stonehillmtb1964

Well, you have to press the exposure button first, then turn the .. But, he is also talking about that the "camera is doing that for me"? Is that due to missunderstanding the function of flashexposure button or something that the camera actual do?

13:28 This setting is not for the camera’s meter. This is flash exposure compensation and will increase or decrease the output of a speedlight etc.

At 14.08, this will NOT protect "Highlights", as "Over Exposure" will "Burn out" the highlights. You need to "Under Expose" thereby, stopping the highlights, from burning out. I say this, so as to inform other people, who may not appreciate this. YOU, probable realize, that over exposing, will loose the highlight detail, and you made a silly mistake, we all have! Thanks for this, as I am about to buy this Camera.

When making a video for tutorial purposes, try not to use the phrase “uh” over and over and over and over again. I counted 128 “uh’s ” just in the first 12 minutes. Ridiculous.
