    Possible Q2u killer for sure, and better looking competitor to it and the Maono HD300t as well. Probably a better choice than the Q9U and Shure mv7 as well. As far the USB sound quality, the free software Steelseries Sonar could let you EQ it for a much nicer sound, for free. And it works in every software that uses the mic, not just in OBS. Check it out.

    The USB-C Sound is ever so slightly thinner and ever so slightly more brittle… this is ever so slightly.
    The sound is spot on and this would be a amazing starting audio interface and microphone you can then later upgrade the interface and preamp part.
    I don’t get why other usb microphones don’t offer the XLR also.
    Not the cheap cheap ones but companies like Rode and so forth really should.
    It’s lengthens the microphones 🎙️ purpose time.
    The sound I’m finding to be fine for starting out producer.
    Not sure what drivers it comes with and what the latency is, or how well it works with a DAW, hopefully that is good also.

    • @TigroGumi
      @TigroGumi 2 роки тому

      I commented this as you as fed how more full the sound was… this is what I mean by the brittle… you haven’t got a lot of room for processing.
      I personally found it thin rather than full but then that how easily the signal will fall apart after processing.
      The same way as we speak of getting a really powerful bass isn’t about turning the bass up so it’s powerful 😂
      The sound is definitely enough through the USB for it to be fine to start with.
      For music production or video or streaming.
      By the time you need that slight upgrade you should also have a much bigger budget 😂

    Excellent review! What I like about your review style is your truly down to earth verses, using the engineer terms. You provided your viewers ( Like me -First time to meet you!) with a full honest review who did NOT try to over impress or to slam the product. Yes, You are correct the USB sound has more higher tone so I will buy and use this mic with XLR mode. Keep going strong! Smiles!

  • @TigroGumi
    @TigroGumi 2 роки тому +1

    Quick question that might make this definitely tip to boat if it does do this.
    Can you use both the XLR and USB at the sale time?
    I’m thinking that it’ll be handy to use the USB for calls and a separate interface, then the XLR to a dedicated interface?
    Thinking for my daughter.
    I just got her a TC-Helicon VK Perform and this is obviously a music production interface.
    The sound I like enough for her to use this mic as a vocal mic and then with us on calls she could then have this plugged into via USB and not have the vK have to be used for the call… especially when I often need to guide her through how to do things on the DAW, as she’s only starting out.

    I can't see a compelling reason to upgrade from a 669
    The XLR jack would go unused
    I'd rather have a boom and pop filter and lighted real tactile feedback mute button.

      To be honest, the wavelink software is super useful for gaming or even podcasting. But as for the microphone, you can either have USB or XLR, there's no mix between them. Haha our suggestion is to get the K688 when you want to upgrade to XLR, you can get the WaveXLR console to use the wavelink.

    I have a blue ember condenser microphone which I’ve had for a year now, is this mic a good upgrade?

    • @audimaster5000
      @audimaster5000 2 роки тому +2

      That’s a tricky thing to compare/contrast when it’s a different type capsule.
      Condenser microphones generally will work more effectively than dynamic mics from a greater distance to source.
      Often it’s not realized the sweet spot for dynamic mics is very close or how one would use a handheld mic- which are generally dynamic mics.
      The idea of a mic ‘sounding better’ can be somewhat misleading depending on the specific. It may be a more advantageous or accurate way of thinking of mics as different instruments whereby the characteristics and nuances are simply appropriate or not for the audio source and environment contexts.
      I know that doesn’t help or answer the question in a simple yes or no- but it’s a more genuine way to recognize that a microphone in itself is a multidisciplinary complex topic that generally we find specific colorations and uneven frequency spectral qualities to be the better ‘sound’ - not necessarily flat or ‘sterile’.
      So definitely look at frequency graphs and sensitivities when comparing. The mics internal preamp circuitry is a whole other factor where many $300-400ish condenser options exist based on older sholpes clone technology or Neumann ect… which are anything but flat mics.
      Also electret condenser microphones like on headphones and many other applications often get overlooked for being a cheap lesser capsule, however don’t be swayed to not use electret condensers especially over dynamic mics.
      I would argue often ‘broadcaster’ or streamer’s use of the dynamic mics particularly the Shure SM7b is based on a self-influenced misleading marketing fad that is counterproductive at minimum and insanely asymmetric prices for what technology is being applied. Dynamic mics like the SM57 or SM7b in general have the least amount of ‘parts’ and shouldn’t be over $50-100, but ya know…
