Cause most of them nest in Rocky areas, as their nest are camaflouged in gravel. Most predators aren't able to see color, so it helps. Compared to where a bird has her eggs in a tree, and A Crow, BlueJay, or Raven might eat the eggs.
The bird is literally actively protecting them, plus Killdeer eggs are much more valuable because they take longer to hatch, I don't think she's leaving them anytime soon
