Bravo. Reading the entire Discworld series is quite the achievement, and this one is easily the hardest. I read it on release day while sobbing heavily and haven't been able to pick it up since. I keep meaning to try again but it's too painful.

I finished reading all 41 books for the first time yesterday! Thank you so much for this series. It has been a treat, after finishing each book, to click over and compare notes with you. Thanks for being a wonderful companion on my journey through the Disc. Cheers!

I felt when reading this book there wa a element of Terry talking about his own ending aswellaswell as the end of the discworld books

If you've finished the shepherd's crown, then you should have already read every other discworld book. The next book you read should be the hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett's twin but sci-fi flavored rather than fantasy.
I cried. I cry now just thinking about it. Whenever I get towards the end of the Tiffany Aching series, I read Equal Rites. I don't know why, it always makes me cry harder, but I feel like it would be wrong if I didn't read that book right before reading this book.

I put it off for years, but I'm glad I got there in the end. It is difficult to read at times, and I'm sure very difficult to review.

Hi, Mouse. A long story completed is like a great journey ended; your mind & memory is filled with impressions of all kind. Also, re-reading a book series is like meeting some old friends again (after the mists of everyday life have gone away).
So you did it (which I had no doubt of). A silent cheer for that!
A review of a scifi novel (classic or random) would be interesting - whenever you're in the mood.
Thanx for being our critical guide thru a phantastic world!
    bonté

I just finished this book, after have read all the others novels of the series. Was an emotional roller coaster maximized by the fact that was THE LAST ONE, a great ending, thanks God Sir Terry Pratchett could give us this before Death (I really love how Sir Terry wrote his character) reap his soul, but some of it will always live in his work.
I think next I would read "Monstrous regiment" again since is my favorite, one of the best books I have read in my life

I've got a hell of a long way to go before I reached the trippy heights of the 14th, let alone 41 at book in the series. But it's your natural enthusiasm and fair/critical appraisal which has me picking up a book when other electronic distractions seem on the face of it...too tempting.
Even though that is true of right now, I know where to draw the line better when I have a book based coordinate earmarked in my daily schedule. And long may that be so. Thanks again.

The five screen adaptations and the three video games could be good material for reviews or playthroughs.

Great job! Respect for finishing this. So good. I will revisit your videos whenever I will reread one of them, because I joihed a bit late to your series😊
Shepherd crown feels like a satisfying ending but it sad of course. Geoffrey never really klicked for me I have to admit.

It was often said that in order to get the books out of Sir Terry's hands, they needed a crowbar!

  • @jacktribble5253

I read this one last, not because I paid attention to any reading order, but because I had to wait on the last five novels by release date. I thought it was an appropriate end, if there had to be one. I believe Pratchett had built up the Discworld to a "Rebirth" and Tiffany was the progenitor of the next generation. Pratchett speaks, all through the series, of the cycle of death and rebirth. He was a genius of continuity. Anyone who is about thirty books into the series should read "The Folklore of Discworld." he explains his inspirations and, thereby, the thought process.

@@quietasmouse You will find it interesting and entertaining, especially if you love history and literature. Sir Terry was very fond of discussing "Fairy Tales" pre-Victorian, and especially pre-Disney.

I really like it and give it 5/5, sure it misses things, but due to it is the last book i write them over with my love for DiscWorld and Terry Pratchett.

My sister has read all Tiffany Aching books except this one. She has't read this yet because she thinks that she should probably read at least some of the adult Discworld books before reading this, since this is the end of the whole series. I haven't read any Tiffany Aching books so I can't recommend what she should do. What would you recommend?

    • @quietasmouse
      @quietasmouse  4 роки тому +4

I would say that she should just read The Shepherd's Crown and not worry too much about not having read other adult Discworld books. I get what she means, but although it is the end of the whole Discworld series, it's also the end of the Tiffany Aching series, so I'd definitely side with reading it anyway. :) There will be some parts that won't have as much impact, but that is the same across all the Tiffany Aching books, so if she didn't have trouble with those I think she should be fine. She will have met most of the characters before anyway.
I really hope she enjoys it if she does choose to read it!

Easily the worst Discworld book of the lot - The only one I actively disliked reading it!
Not sure if I'd place The Shepherd's Crown or Dark Side of the Sun as Pratchett's weakest work overall.....DSotS was such a ridiculously hard read considering it's under 160 pages.
