@@breestone8978same. that's sad. I watched the show last year and it was one of the craziest experiences of my life in a good way and the music played a big part in it.
If you watch this on streaming, it's basically illegal to skip the intro. Perfectly sets the mood for every episode, even if the intro doesn't change too much through the whole run.
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, I think this theme perfectly captures the feeling of walking through a Douglas fir wilderness, simply enjoying nature. Such a beautiful piece!!
If and when I visit the USA I'm doing the Pacific Northwest...the whole new England in the fall and route 66 can wait... Twin Peaks fan (nay obsessive ) from the UK
show isn't just about the murder. only the lynch episodes are about the murder. lynch episodes are like the movie ua-cam.com/video/I9Ey1FQVIO8/v-deo.html if you watch lynch stuff they are dark and violent. violence, sex, drugs back in the day the show had a 10pm watershed which was new for a show, but that was because of the lynch episodes. normally in the 80s shows weren't allowed to be this dark.
you know when its a lynch episode the quality improves and it feels like a movie and not a tv series. the episodes by frost are ok but there is a quality dip.
There is no question; this is the greatest and most influential program to every be on television. It utterly changed the medium and there are no series that after Twin Peaks aired that does not owe a modicum of inspiration to this tremendous series.
The most beautiful dreamy intro ever made. Everytime I put on an episode of Twin Peaks and hear that first note I just feel a relief, it's like my entire soul just takes a deep breath and all anxiety inside me just disappears and floats away.
I believe these are the greatest opening credits of all time for many reasons, but I think the main reason is because of its glorious simplicity. It's just a bird looking up, a shot of a mill smoke stack, a sawblade, a waterfall, and then a river, and that's all, but you set it to Angelo Badalamenti's absolutely stunning music and you create something that is, to me, almost a religious experience when you watch it. When I watch the series, even when I watch like ten episodes in a row, I never skip the opening credits; to me, that would be a crime, and no matter how many times I see them, I feel something deep inside me that moves me in a way I can't explain.
I remember David Lynch talking in a interview about living in hollywood and at certain times you can smell the jasmine in the air, such a wonderful guy.
Having missed Twin Peaks when it was telecast - I lived in a creek ravine in a log cabin - being able to see the whole series on CD's & on UA-cam - this is like being in heaven. Then to be able to play the theme song on my Roland electronic piano too. I wish they would have re-runs on PBS.
Haunting, wistful, beautiful... perfectly matched to one of the best, and most original, TV series ever. The whole soundtrack is enjoyable to listen to, but the main theme is the standout.
The music for this show is so beautiful. I've been watching this show all day, and this and Laura's Theme is my favourite score. I also love "Falling," just one of the many way Twin Peaks is amazing.
This shows opening just brings back so many memories for me from living in Seattle in the 90s, ahhh man the vibe is literally incomparable as some have stated
Jimmy McNulty In retrospect, I don't stand by this initial statement. Twin Peaks will always be a classic series, but the mid portion of Season 2 was downright awful. (The finale was indescribable, though.) My list is.. 1. Deadwood 2. The Wire 3. The Sopranos 4. Breaking Bad 5. The Shield 6. Mad Men 1 through 3 could be moved around in virtually any order.
Great list and true about S2 of Twin Peaks. Its the 2nd season that has viewers recognize that the series was never able to achieve the novel like storytelling of the shows you mentioned. Here's how my list would go: 1. The Sopranos 2. The Wire 3. Deadwood 4. Mad Men 5. Breaking Bad 6. The Leftovers 7. The Americans 8. The Shield Deadwood personally is my favorite series of all time and for the longest time I put it at No. 1. I would put Twin Peaks on my top 15 or 20.
Not just the best series but also one of the best cast... Feels they were born to play this role kudos to lynch and his team for creating such a phenomenal series nd a cast thats hard to forget.
This makes me so relaxed and tired. Perfeclty sets the mood for the show. It all feels like a dream, sometimes a fever dream. The vibe has never been replicated
+Andy Smith No, it was a true statement. It was a great show that occurred during a time of great change. As the Internet and being in constant contact was beginning, innocence and personal contact was disappearing. Plus as a Seattle resident we went from a pretty quiet area to what it is now. After this show came our music scene and then Microsoft. It truly was better times at the time this show came out. To me if they bring the show back it couldn't possibly have the same feel. It was a product of that time.
This was filmed in North Bend, WA, about 15 miles from Redmond (where I live). The falls are Snoqualmie Falls. I love the city! It is really nice, and Twede's Cafe is still there.
Haven't watched this show in many years, but came here to watch this today for some reason. Wow that music and these credits are a burst of nostalgia for me, takes me back to a wondrous time
this theme just fits with so much emotions: 1. you've just stopped the killer and are lying down on the floor with extreme need of sleep but so happy 2. the love of your live just died and you are crying your heart out 3. remembering when you were a kid and smiling. and the list goes on. this is officially one of the best pieces of music i have ever heard
April 8, 1990 - My dad just got done helping me with my homework. I'm on my to my way to my room to finish it and this song come on. Me - " Dad, what is this. Dad, while reading the newspaper - " I have no idea." Me - " Don't change it. I want to watch it." Dad - " I thought you had homework to finish?" Me - " I'll get up early to finish it. I promise." Dad - " You better." The rest is history. I introduced the box tapes to every girlfriend I've ever had. they all loved of course.
I didn’t watch this when it first came out, but I’ve gotten into it recently and have the entire series on DVD. I don’t consider myself a Peaks Freak(yes, that is what the hardcore fans are called), but I do like the series, as it was very ahead of its time.
Isso aqui é a elite pô. Twin Peaks é muito única, com personagens excêntricos, uma cidade muito característica com aquela vibe de cidade pequena dos EUA e todos os mistérios em volta da trama. Tá entre as minhas favoritas!
I adore this song. This song is one of my earliest memories in life. Maybe thats why I'm such a dark miserable person hahaha, but seriously this show is the best and this song is my jam.
It was filmed on film, not tape, so there is plenty of resolution available if they wanted to make a blu ray version. Check out the blurays of 60s Bond films or Blade Runner to see just how astonishingly good and detailed old film can look when rescanned. In fact, Twin Peaks was one of the first tv shows to use film instead of tape and was a huge influence and factor on the shift in the 90s from cheapo production values and videotape to a more cinematic look for television shows.
This is the first, and only tv show, where i feel like you get actually transported. The bizarre soap opera vibe mixed in with incredible performances and character actors makes it feel like you’ve always known the show. And it feels so oddly familiar.
I used to play at Snoqualmie Falls all the time as a kid, long before I saw Twin Peaks. How surreal to find my playground was the site of a truly wonderful show.
My Dad liked the show but tuned in for the tune, opening credit's + backdrop mostly! He like's America a lot. I remember the music, and that Kyle Mclachlan was in it, but I'd forgotten that Piper Laurie was in it too. Here they are, Nirvana! Haunting! That entire area seem's, very foreboding, vast, remote, harsh, a dark gorgeous canvas but beautiful atmosphere!
I'm glad they only did 2 seasons. A lot of shows suck when they keep making seasons. I really liked the first season much more than the second. So don't pray for another one, the show is sublime just as it is :).
The vibe of this is incomparable.

I was named after Laura Palmer !! I just started to watch the series today and fell in love with them immediately.
Here's a hint..
LAURA LAURA !
bad idea
U beautiful like Laura Palmer too bby
Did they explain why you were named after someone who was tortured and murdered?
Truly a most female comment, devoid of any value whatsoever. Only the opposite of so.
Diane, I'm finding myself rewatching the title sequence from Twin Peaks for no reason while eating the best cranberry pie west of the Rockies

I think that's the most beautiful intro for any tv show, (or one that I have seen)
Sometimes I sit in my car and listen to this while having coffee and a donut ❤
Such a chill intro for a show that goes to some dark places
as a child i was so terrified of horror show....i could only watch this waterfall scene n than run away frm tv.....childhood so funny
+UrbanExplorer1000 It's not but it certainly has an unsettling vibe kinda like True Detective .
@UrbanExplorer1000 Fire Walk With Me begs to differ, but that's a whole different discussion altogether.
