I love what they've done with Bobby's character.
Me too. I think he and Shelly may be married and he may also be a father since Shelly mentioned having a daughter named Becky.
Yeah, but Shelly seems to be linking that guy from lost highway...
Becky Briggs is going to be played by Amanda Seyfried
Totally agree that Bobby becoming a cop is the best character advancement so far!
A vision of light :]

This is the first scene that uses this Badalamenti track that was previously overused back in the original series. Because it comes litterally three episodes into the season, it has the emotional impact of a ton of bricks.
My dad's buds had a drinking game. They'd binge and binge watch the vhs tapes and drink bourbon for every time that track played during an episode..
They must have been completely smashed halfway through the original pilot.
@Stank after a recent rewatch, they almost entirely stopped using it after Lelands death.
I don’t think it was overused I enjoyed it every time
@@magicknight13 it’s a soap opera trope to use musical stings to tell the audience that they should be getting emotional, a bit like canned laughter in sitcoms. Whilst I appreciate that it’s a beautiful track, it could’ve been a lot more effective had it been used half as much as it was.
You can’t get anymore Twin Peaks than dramatic crying over Laura Palmer as Laura Palmer’s theme plays in the background.. Speechless
?
Yessss
Absolutely so good. Amazing acting.
Hell yeah! This is the pivotal point in which Twin Peaks truly felt like Twin Peaks again, given the location and the characters involved.

@@xtzyshuadogJesus, imagine trying to take credits away from David Lynch.
The lack of Mark Frost is why The Return was so mediocre. David Lynch went full David Lynch without Frost in the picture. Hell, we only got real Dale Cooper for like 5 minutes. What a slap in the face to fans.@@GavinAeilts
Between this and the scene where Major Briggs tells Bobby about his dream, Bobby has two of the most emotional scenes in the series.
So true 😭♥️
What about BABY POWDER??
Three, counting his rant at Laura’s funeral, which is a punch to the gut…
This scene made me choke up, it's so brief but deepens Bobby's character so much. Despite everything, he truly did care about Laura back then and still does now.
Not sure if he stills cares for laura in that way, but it just brougght back memories of that turbulent time in his life.
How could he not? According to Laura's diary, she was his first love :c
@@johnmonty7077 Felix didn't say ''cared THAT way'', just ''cared'', big difference.
I cried too upon hearing Laura's theme here. Bobby's expression speaks for all TP fans who patiently waited for 25+ years for the show's return.
Bobby saying "Man, brings back some memories..." hit me like a shotgun blast.
Yep, it's a really cool meta moment that doesn't take you out of the show
God when that music hits.
Who would have thought that biggest gut punch of the first 4 episodes would have been from Bobby :( LIke his reaction in the Roadhouse during Maddy's death, and his reaction to his fathers vision. Bobby gets some truly, truly great moments.
Definitely in the running for most improved from the pilot to the end of the original series, and continuing that streak now 25+ years later.
Wont top his reaction to seeing Gordon and Shelly kissing
Yeah his reaction to his father's vision was shockingly moving, especially since Don S Davis played the Major so dry, and we barely saw their relationship. I didn't see it coming.
Yeah with his father best scne of original twin peaks. Bobby's my favorite character hes just so real
His AMEN scene from the original too.
Andy and Lucy quietly reaching for each other's hands on top of Bobby's reaction with the theme? It sent me.
Nostalgia is fucking crazy. I think they very deliberately made this scene convey that sensation for us. 25 years is a long time.
What’s great about is that they don’t overdo the nostalgia. They use these callbacks in the most meaningful way that many shows and movies fail at. Better Call Saul is probably another good example of nostalgia done right.
It’s so good
@@davemac9563 its because like lynch, vince gilligan wants to create an amazing story not fanservice.
Bobby's reaction is so mature somehow.
You can tell he's overwhelmed by a lot of different emotions at once.
-Grief, probably dual grief for the death of Laura and the disappearance of his father soon afterwards.
-Love, obviously, for who Laura was and how much he must have grown to understand how special she was as he aged.
-Regret, for how he treated her and, probably, Shelly too.
-There's a little bit of happiness that brings it together as well, thought it's more of a peacefulness than 'happy' I suppose. A sense that he's not the angry, emotional turbulent kid he once was but a grown man with the ability to find harmony despite all that he's seen and endured and done to others.
He's moved on and found a way to live a life beyond the events of that time 25 years ago and seeing that picture draws that all out of him again but's he's grown enough to find peace.
I think there's some guilt in there too, since Laura got Bobby involved in drugs and led to him killing a man (two if you believe The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer), which no one else alive knows about
The little hand-holding from Andy and Lucy is very emotive also
After losing my brother to suicide in 2019, this scene truly got to me. My brother Peter loved Twin Peaks and got me into the series. He never got to see the new season. 😢 Bobby's reaction to seeing her picture is so real. Grief will always be there in some way shape or form. When I saw this scene I bawled my eyes out.
Feel for you. I recently lost my brother, and he shared a passion for the series as well, so memories of him are and will always be attached to Twin Peaks. Take care.
God bless your brother
I’m so sorry for your loss my friend. Thank you for sharing his memory ❤❤❤
God bless you, my friend. Or, if you don’t believe in that, good vibes and much love.
I’m so sorry to hear about your brother!
I love everything about this new season, but this is actually my favorite scene so far.
Kontrol Bug yea i think their are going back more often in each episode. We will have alot more scenes like this :)
NarutoOnline News I agree. Once the side stories connect back to Twin Peaks, I think it'll have the same vibe as Seasons 1+2.
Bobby's expression speaks for all TP fans who were waiting for the show to return for 25+ years.
+Rockin Records All the South Dakota stuff feels more like FWWM thrown in. It's gonna be a huge synthesis when it's all said and done.
Kontrol Bug same, totally nostalgic.
Oh, Bobby :(
What gets to me about this scene, is what has always gotten to me about the original show. The death of Laura Palmer, even "25 years" later, is never treated as a joke or played for laughs. Like others have mentioned, this is the first time Badalamenti's music is played in the 3rd season: Laura Palmer's Theme, being played as a moment of remembrance for why we even have Twin Peaks in the first place. This scene very easily could have been made as a parody, but while Bobby is getting emotional, and the score is playing in the background, everyone in that room becomes serious. Even Andy and Lucy, who have been used as comic relief for the entire season so far, have a moment of respect. An extremely emotional, beautiful scene.
I actually found this part to be really funny. And I'm sure it's partially intended to be funny. Just look at how left field it seems when it starts.
@@stevenelliottcaedmonshinde2062 Nope.
@@stevenelliottcaedmonshinde2062 yeah David Lynch is well known for his sense of humour. There is no way that this scene is actually supposed to be taken seriously.
Even the acting feels deliberately over the top and melodramatic.
It's totally played for laughs
@@YetaxaI mean, that's how grief works sometimes isn't it? You'll be trying your best to keep going and something will happen to remind you of what happened, it can hit like a truck out of nowhere. And isn't that just a little darkly funny? It's emotional catharsis as a metaphorical slapstick, to go from mostly fine to an emotional mess in an instant is kinda silly right? Doesn't mean that the emotions weren't very real.
To be honest I think it can kinda be read as both emotionally resonant and beautiful and a little melodramatic and silly, because the emotions involved in processing something like someone you're close to dying. Twin Peaks is kinda born off this dichotomy (which is funny cause of how much lynch plays with doubles). The first two seasons were extremely melodramatic and silly but the show had an extremely strong emotional core that blended (barring some outliers like james) with the silly.
I don't think it's entirely a matter of "you should take this seriously, and this not seriously." Even in the lighter segments/jokes, it's not devoid of that emotional core.
It was nice hearing Badalamenti's music in the new season. I just couldn't realize i was watching twin peaks because of the lack of the original music. Really hope they use more of it in the rest of the episodes.
you have to admit, after 3 episodes of not hearing twin peaks music outside of the intro, that hearing Laura's theme (particularly how it was used) was powerful. After not hearing any recognizable themes for the first three hours, having Lauras theme catch me off guard hit me like a sack of bricks and really got me emotionally invested in the scene.
I have a feeling we'll start seeing more and more of the original music. I'm sure a lot of the tunes will resurface after Audrey is finally seen.
Actually I think it's more likely to happen when Cooper regains his "memory" or whatever's wrong with him is fixed. Maybe the lack of the original music is part of the story.
That's a great idea. That the music (and the setting not being so much in TP yet) being new and unfamiliar is linked to Cooper not being his old self just yet. Nice thought.
Glad Bobby actually ended up turning his life around and becoming a decent guy, I feel like that was the way the show was originally gonna take his character before it got canceled.
I love what they did with Bobby. His father’s vision came true. It also shows just how much of an impact Laura’s death had on this town. It still conjures this level of emotion after 25 years.
Crazy how handsome he still is. Love Bobby.
Bobby in season 1, rebellious punk
Bobby in season 3, Town Deputy Officer.
Beautiful. Just perfect. Life matters on Twin Peaks. One of my favorite scenes in the original is when Major Briggs tells Bobby about his dream of his bright future. It's so unexpected. So positive and full of light.
My man Boby one of my favorite Twin Peaks Characters i love his evolution
Bobby
Anna Henson ok
I still don't get how some of these actors didn't have bigger careers. Dana Ashbrook is obviously a very good actor, clearly a born leading man. And yet he never really got to play that part outside of Twin Peaks. Sheryl Lee should have had way more, way bigger roles. Maybe they didn't want to. Maybe the movie industry failed them.
I cry every time I see this scene. This scene alone captures the essence of Twin Peaks. Powerful, emotional, nostalgic, and depressing all at the same time...
The music.
The fucking music.
This scene is perfection.
This got me right in the feels. Bobby always acted like he never cared about Laura, but he was a dumbass teenager back then and was blinded by his lust for the hotter than the sun Shelly. This scene showed that he truly cared about Laura and that the emotional conversation he had with his dad really did convince him to change and be a better person
This scene made me cry ;(.... especially when they used that song again. Amazing moment in the episode.
Did anyone else get the chills when the music started?
The character development of Bobby Briggs is one of the most memorable from The Return. Dana Ashbrook was astounding as the bad boy in 1990, but this more experienced, soulful Bobby is sublime. His father’s vision came true.
Bobby truly loved her
My favorite character. This is so sad. Brings tears to my eyes.
"Man, brings back some memories." Shhh, Bobby, it's all right for grown men to cry. You don't have to try to hide it.
Finally some angelo music! lol!
"Ohh Angelo"
beautiful! just like in 1990, we have a cop who's crying over the sight of a victim. back then it was good old Andy, nowadays it is Robert Briggs.
Bobby "Booby ( . Y . )" Briggs
He's a dynamite actor. I had no clue until I watched this scene.
Awww Bobby. Took just one second to remind me why I loved him so. And I bet he's still a hot mess too. Glad they remembered his relationship with Laura.
Loved the bit where Lucy took Andy's hand when he was upset. Sweet.
RIP to a FUCKING LEGEND
While I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Season 3 I've seen so far, it was this scene that fully drew me in and emotionally engaged me like nothing before it. Like Bobby, I all of a sudden found myself flung back 25 years and re-experiencing events as if they'd only just taken place and the wounds were still fresh.
I have a feeling that Dark Cooper killed Bobby's father.
Ohhh yeah.
If you`ll read "The secret history of Twin Peaks" it`ll be quite obvous.
Short story: Major Briggs have found out that Cooper is possesed and wanted to do something about it. But Cooper get him first.
I think it could be the other way around: Cooper talks in a ''good Cooper'' -way to Briggs, he discovers what Briggs knows about all the evils at work in the black lodge... and then... well... he destroys Briggs and his whole station in a fire
And the answer iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis:
idk maybe
This scene put ice water in my veins and reminded me of how just seeing a picture of someone you used to know can recall so many memories. Such a brilliant scene, and even after all these years people remembered how Laura made them feel.
Rip Angelo badalamenti
This scene is so first two seasons of Twin Peaks that I cried from nostalgia.
I read some people laughed at this scene, I guess they saw it as intentional camp like the original series. However, I was genuinely moved by Bobby because of how much he has grown and here he finally shows that he really did care about Laura.
This scene (along with James staring in the bar) always get to me the most. Bobby being reminded of his past and his love from a very turbulent time that ended with him and his father (who were at odds), reconnecting, him becoming a man living a life to be proud of... it hurt to see him remember Laura and the horror of his youth.
The moment Laura Palmer murder is remembered by the people is when we finally hear that music again. This seems to be on purpose and I think we are going to hear it alot more often from now on
Magic moment
gives me nostalgia but i couldnt even imagine a 20 plus year fan's reaction. dope scene
Delightful scene.
I’m so glad The Return was better than the original - it deserved to be.
The Return was not better than the original tf
@omegamanGXE yes it was 🤡
crying a lot when the first time I saw this scene
Laura palmer the unforgettable beauty of twin peaks
And Andy was like: "Hey Bobby, take care, you're about to step into my shoes".
Amazing acting here! So emotional in such a small scene
dana knocked it out of the park
RIP Laura Palmer 1971 - 1989
:'(
I’ve always been fascinated by _Twin Peaks,_ but find it a little too frustrating to really get into. That said, this moment still kicked me in the heart: it was like Laura had just died all over again. Kudos to Dana Ashbrook for absolutely selling it.
Psych did a Twin Peaks episode and Dana absolutely sold emotion in that too, dude is incredible at it.
I really wish there was a scene with Bobby and Cooper in The Return
You’re lying to yourself if you didn’t at least tear up when the music kicked in.
25 years later, finally we get the emotional release we never got in the first season
When this scene with the Laura theme kicked me from out of nowhere, I had to pause it for a while due to wave of nostalgia where a little kid myself watched the opening of S1 E1 (only downer was that it was Korean dub version..) with my old brother for the first time thru small TV that was more than two decades ago... whatsoever crazy/weird/vague things David Linch put on together, I love that he knew how audience would react with this little moment he added as a gift for whole TP fans worldwide waiting 25 years.
Bobby here speaks for all us who waited 25 Years ... its the same impact .
this is so minimal, but still efective, brilliant desing of just a few simple shots. tears flowing so fast from my eyes, thanks lynch and dana
first melodramatic moment, and so epic!!!
when the music hit it was like a ton of bricks, i didnt find the scene funny in the least. more heartbreaking, because after all this time bobby still hasnt totally let go of Laura. and the music is Lynchs' way of making sure you feel that.
It wasn't supposed to be funny though...
Also music is not only Lynch's way to make the audience feel certain things, but every director's way
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 some people commented that it was funny when it happened.
i'm loving the new series of twin peaks but this is the only moment when it actually has felt like twin peaks, i love laura palmer's theme, it makes the tv show
Rebecca Scott this the twin peaks mark Frost and David Lynch wanted to make. CABS gave them very little freedom in the original show
"You never really loved her..." Yet he did and pretty sure still does in 2017.
THIS ICONICALLY BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC COMING BACK AGAIN
Only 4 eps in and so many incredible scenes already.
"Brings back some memories" me too me too
When I saw this all I thought about was Gus crying on Psych...
such a good performance. give him a nomination
I’ve always liked Bobby inspite of himself, he was kinda a punk first season. It’s a strange feeling so long ago and so much has changed to dredge up those old feelings for Laura and her death.
I started watching Twin Peaks a month ago and this episode today. The scene alone already raised my sense of nostalgia 😢
All thanks to Angelo and David.
He's an exceptional actor.
Keep building it! Keep building it! Aw Angelo you’re tearing my heart out ❤️
This show needs more of the original music. I KNOW it's a different series but this scene evoked so much!
Seeing your first high school gf the shit that happened afterwards so much nostalgia my god I’m crying
Betcha can't retain tears. So sad and melancholic scene, one of the best of TP.
I love how this scene can be dumbed down to David Lynch making fun of people who get overly nostalgic to fanservice
Bobby had some of the absolute goofiest AND the deepest heartfelt scenes in the series. Truly the dichotomy of Lynch.
All the good old fellas...soo sweet and lovely blast from the past...💟

I nearly had to cry too when this scene came on :( This for sure brings back memories
I'm glad Bobby bettered himself after the first two seasons wrapped.
The actor still has that special way of crying.
Why?
@@Jackp2003 because
I think the new series takes us from a disintegrated, formless nightmare of the old series but in this scene takes us back to its original spirit, slowly seeping back into its familiar form. it goes from the cold and distant to the human and familiar. I don't think I've ever seen this effect pulled off elsewhere before. Lynch is playing with feelings. When the music started up here I was speechless at the impacting resurrection of that old 'twin peaks' feeling when the preceding episodes felt like a foreign nightmare.
Andy tries not to cry.
“Man... Brings back some memories”
This is gonna be me when I’m so old and someone brings up Twin Peaks
My character guess is that Bobby worked really hard to put that part of his past away. And become a better person. Which we see he did. Maybe he went as far as avoiding pictures of Laura. And soon it was all gone... This picture probably released so much emotion.
I love this scene, and i love what they decided to do with Bobby. It was a very good twist.
I imagine that many people of Twin Peaks look back on Laura Palmer and those days as when everything started to go wrong. And for some it symbolizes something deeper, more profound, but also so far back in the past. Man, this scene got me...
Powerful scene, great acting. Bravo Bobby.
I can't shake the notion that David Lynch put that picture on the table without telling Dana Ashbrook, just to get that reaction out of him. Either way, this scene hits me in the feels.
